  1. I will say one thing, EVERY fan base thinks their managers bullpen management is bad. I'm a pretty big time fantasy baseball player and I go to a lot of teams forums checking up on guys etc and one common thread you'll find in every single one of them is complaints about bullpen usage.
  2. This of course is very situational, in your example Yost really had no choice. He could put in Spurling and then have nobody left to pitch or he could let Parra try to get Helms out. Those were his two choices and I think he probably made the right one given the situation

Thanks guys.
  5. day to day is what they are saying right now, I think we won't really know until tomorrow.
  6. Running from 1st to 3rd he pulled up lame with some sort of leg injury and he left the game. Announcers seemed to think it would be something long term but obviously no details yet. I always hate to see anyone get hurt especially a star player, but I guess this could help our chances a bit. Edit : Initial report is a right quad strain. (consolidated tags --1992)
  7. Its just a really hard thing for me to criticize because we don't know what happened. Did Yost come out there and Suppan said he's gassed? Was he throwing the ball differently like he looked tired etc. There are things that are happening behind the scenes that we don't know anything about. When he took out Suppan I was thinking that Suppan had one more batter and if he failed to get him out he was done even at only 83+ pitches. Now if he gets that out then Yost probably made a mistake, if the runner gets the hit he's taking Suppan out anyway and another run scored.
  8. Yeah it really is quite obnoxious to lose so many games that seemed to be in the bag. My gut says the Brewers should be up 5 or 6 games on the Cubs if we just got the job done in the winnable games. Thing is we are pretty much right in line with our W3 so I can't really say we are losing more than we 'should'. The big problem is we no longer have a RP in the top 30 of WXRL and I'm guessing Cordero has dropped out of the top 50. The bullpen has been killing us lately.
  9. I'm going ot guess Linebrink is the closer for Monday and/or Tuesday with Cordero/Turnbow getting a day or two off. I agree with the other poster that Cordero needs to be on a pretty short leash for a while, Turnbow or Linebrink should be saved to finish for him if he has problems throwing strikes in the 9th again.
  10. He is correct, he made two posts with exactly the same focus within a few minutes of each other, I was a bit confused by it as well. I think the bullpen will be ok other than the fact they seem to stink now. If all else fails he can use Bush in a short relief stint and start Parra in Bush's spot. I'd hold Linebrink as the closer for tomorrows game. Spurling can go the 8th. I'm sure Shouse can pitch an inning still. The one possible bad thing is we might be stuck throwing Wise out there for an inning and making him sink or swim. We do have off Thursday and then again on Monday so its really just tomorrow that is worrisome.
  11. I still disagree with it. He used Shouse the way he should, he tried to go 2 IP with CV which was a good move, only CV stunk up the 2nd inning. He pulled Suppan a baserunner sooner than I probably would have but it certainly was defensible. The things i do question is using Parra after such a long outing just 3 days ago and leaving Cordero out there for 40 pitches when he wasn't throwing strikes.
  12. I don't really agree with the original post. This is a case of the bullpen not doing its job, I think its really stretching things to try to blame this on Yost. I was surprised when he yanked Suppan but given our struggles in the 6th this season, the fact we are off 2 of the next 8 days, the fact we hadn't used our MR's all that much lately and the fact we have 13 pitchers right now I don't have any problems with the bullpen usage.
  13. I don't disagree but it doesn't really seem to be the young guys who are having the problems. Its Cordero and the starting pitchers who should be the more veteran core of the team that is costing us most of these games.
  14. I don't have a problem with putting in Wise when we are up by 5 runs. The results obviously stink but I don't think it was a terrible idea. If it had been say a 3 run game I'd have a real problem with it.
  15. These games where we score a bunch in the 1st and do nothing after really scare me. Glad this one is at home.
  16. Its not just that Hall has been struggling, he's showing his frustrations a lot on the field, which generally means a day off could do him some good.
  17. Would playoff games count towards attendence? That could push us over.
  18. I think contract years certainly motivate some players, guys like Manny Ramirez and Gary Sheffield who dog it a lot during the season might play with more intensity during them. I don't think its a global thing where you expect every player to play better. Jenkins seems to give it his all out there regardless of the situation, its just sometimes his all is flailing away at balls in the dirt. Btw on a game by game basis Jenkins was the best clutch hitter in baseball last year, he's been the best clutch hitter on the team this season. I think its mostly just random variance as he used the be the worst on the team just a couple years ago.
  19. Hamels has a 3.51 ERA this year, his FIP is 4.07. He is not a pitcher that is so dominant we cannot score on, this game is not anywhere near over.
  20. Phillies message boards seem to think Hamels is still pitching so my guess is its just a messup in Yahoo.
  21. Hopefully Wood gets into the game and blows it.
  22. That would be because they aren't? If you don't think the Cubs are getting lucky you simply have not been watching them play the last month, even their fans think they are getting all the bounces. If you read their forum and they were upset at no deadline move because of it. The two teams are about as evenly matched as they come in my opinion.
  23. Yep bad calls and pitchers having their worst games of the year against the Cubs... pretty much the story of the last two months.
  24. I think you have more problems with the evolution of the baseball fan than with the new stadium. None of these things would be any different in County stadium with us in the playoff hunt.
  25. Lefties hit Hamels as well or slightly better than righties because of his nasty change up. I would just play the best lineup we can put out there.
