  1. Nope, the 9th is "Corey's inning." Sad that Counsel can be a “manual manager”. Open up the book and see what I’m supposed to do here. The book says you don't use your closer at home in the 9th inning of a tie game, so no you are completely wrong here. You are so intent on placing blame for everything that you don't bother to actually think about what you are posting and it is obnoxious as heck.
  2. This really couldn't be more wrong. The QB in football has a bigger impact on wins than any single player in baseball can. Aaron Rodgers has a bigger impact on the Packers than Mike Trout does on the Angels and it isn't really close. You could put Aaron Rodgers on the Browns and they might make the playoffs. Also Melvin was tasked with rebuilding the fanbase, not building a long term contender. You are looking at this from completely the wrong angle. Melvin knew that they were tanking the future just to make the playoffs because it is what the team needed at the time after somewhat losing the fanbase by being bad for so long. Stearn's should not be about just making the playoffs, his job is to build a long term winner. Babe Ruth's best season was 15 WAR. Barry Bond's was 12.7. The absolute best baseball players ever aren't worth even 1 win in a football season. Rodgers is worth 2 or 3, he is like a 30-40 WAR baseball player.
  3. It is just so hard to gauge Britton's value right now I get why the package wasn't super amazing.
  4. With a slightly above average QB instead of Rodgers the Packers are basically the Lions over that time frame. Rodgers has covered up a lot of ineptitude with the Packers. He is so great he can will a bad team into the playoffs and even win a playoff game or two, that doesn't make McCarthy a good coach.
  5. McCarthy should have been fired years ago. The Packers wasted the prime years of the best QB in the NFL because of McCarthy and Capers. Stearns isn't anywhere near the end of his rope, he has done a fantastic job turning a roster around as fast as he has. Counsell is just a manager so they can fire him the first time the team stinks for a season or he starts doing weird stuff or mouthing off to the media and it isn't a big deal.
  6. We already have Sonny Gray, only we call him Chacin, hell to the no.
  7. I don't think the team should be buyers so for me he gets a free pass. This team is at least 4 players away from having a realistic shot at winning a playoff series. If they make a move it needs to be for someone that is going to help next year as well and I'd be much happier if they helped in 2020 as well which is the first year I expected the team to have a chance at being competitive when we went into rebuild mode. If Stearns has an issue it is he did his job too good and put us in an awkward position where we are in striking distance for the playoffs but really should still be sellers. The fans will flip out if we actually sell like we should but we don't want to buy when it makes no sense either.
  8. It might actually be harder given how many young players have hit the majors and seen power spikes like they never had in the minors. Guys like Torres, Judge and Albies are better in the majors than they ever were in the minors by a very wide margin.
  9. I think I'd try to trade for Kevin Gausman who seems like the next Jake Arrieta to me. For whatever reason the Orioles just can't develop pitching and I think Gausman would respond very well to a change of scenery. He is controlled through 2020 so it isn't just a rental and that is the only type of deal I'd want to give up much for.
  10. Nowhere did I say it was ok. I would expect if I came and posted the exact same things on my social media people would be upset about it, even people who knew me really well. I'm looking at it more from the intent behind it. The intent behind words means way more than the words themselves do. I don't think the intent is as bad as people are making it out to be here. I spend time gaming with young kids, this kind of stuff is just part of the vernacular these days online. It doesn't make it right but you have to be realistic about the world too. The intent behind those posts means everything. I am personally judging the intent to be that of a dumb young kid and not a hateful person. The post you quoted just isn't realistic at all, it isn't how the world is ever going to work. It still doesn't make anything posted right, but it isn't as wrong as it could be with different intent behind it. The world is not black or white, it is full of gray. That post is just trying to say the gray doesn't exist. Things aren't just right or wrong, there is a lot of space between the two extremes, some things are more wrong than others.
  11. The Mets also aren't motivated to sell the way the Marlins were. The price is probably quite a bit higher than what we payed for Yelich.
  12. I finally got a chance to look at this closely and I would side with people overreacting here. 80% of what he posted was straight up movie/lyric quotes. The rest of it is something that would not surprise me to hear said in what I would assume is a joking manner in an online gaming chat channel. I don't know Hader and the internet unfortunately tends to hide the context behind everything. So I'm not going to fully judge him one way or the other, but to me this looks more like a dumb 17 year old being inappropriate on the internet than someone being a hatemonger.
  13. Yelich is more durable, is a much better baserunner and is a better fielder unless it just fell off completely this year. Haniger is a clear below average defensive player, I still think Yelich is a positive. Haniger is also a year older than Yelich.
  14. I expect them to come out a bit flat and I pray that Stearns doesn't try to go for it this season. We need to get a reasonable rotation in place before we start selling off commodities. Next year Peralta can be stretched out for a full season more or less, at least at that point we have a start on the rotation. The Cubs are not going to keep getting better, they have no minor league system and have made a number of really bad moves recently, there is no reason to think this is some sort of down year for them compared to what is coming. This may be a playoff roster but it is not a contending one and a trade or two isn't going to make it one.
  15. I'd say it is 50/50 whether he actually had any negative intent behind those posts or was just screwing around and being dumb online. I see it all the time with kids that age though not usually in such a public spot, they are usually smart enough not to be that public with it. Yes it is pretty embarrassing for him that he never thought to go delete that as he grew older though. This all makes him look like a moron more than anything else. Also there is nothing wrong with him doing the sensitivity training. If he doesn't need it he can just make it a positive and share his experiences with others who do need it as to why he has changed. Or he can even share why he said dumb stuff he didn't believe in when he was young if that is what happened. As long as he is treating it as a positive someone will get something useful out of it.
  16. Just because you don't know anything about baseball doesn't mean the manager is always wrong.
  17. They kind of did it to themselves trading for decent to good major leaguers. Guys like Shaw were supposed to be filler guys who you could trade off so I have no issues with that. Yelich is a long term cost controlled player so I have no issue with that trade either. I don't like that we also signed Cain though, I feel that move put us on a clock and I don't know that it is a reasonable one. One of these moves was enough, both of them changed the short term expectations and I think it was too soon for it.
  18. Rough stretch for sure, I hope we aren't big time buyers (and not just because of this stretch). This team just isn't ready yet, they need a real rotation. Peralta and one of the other young guys stretched out, Nelson and or Anderson actually pitching well and some FA or trade SP in the mix. We can't have a bunch of guys who have to be taken out before they get through the order 3 times because it just kills the bullpen. We also desperately need to fix SS and C long term. This is a case of a team in a 5 year rebuild who hits their stride 3 years earlier than expected, too good to just sit on their hands without pissing off fans but not good enough to expect to win it all even with big moves. Just an awkward spot all around.
  19. Oh, so Counsell is perfect, and since he has the best bullpen in baseball he can't be criticized? please. He can be criticized but nobody watching this game thinks Hader looked rusty, he was just fine and got too much of the plate with 2 pitches. One of them most likely because he was being squeezed by the ump. Blaming Counsell for that is just trying to fit your narrative to the story, it has no basis in truth.
  20. Hader looked just fine until the blown 3rd strike and back to back HR's. Stop trying to blame Counsell for every run the team gives up. Rust would have been struggling to throw strikes early, not throwing 2 bad pitches later in the inning.
  21. I didn't see it today but yeah they always ask really silly questions. It is supposed to be a fun look at the game rather than the normal serious look. They'll ask them things like who is the most famous person they have in their phone etc.
  22. Not that this is a huge deal, he is roughly a league average player.
  23. This is factually incorrect. Neither team would trade these players without adding those names much less both of them.
