  1. I didn't read this entire post but I will just comment on something said early in it. If you don't think the Astros are watching the scores of the A's games you are fooling yourself. Championship teams watch scoreboards more than most if anything. You can play to a playoff record and still miss them if your competition plays even better, what other teams do matters completely.
  2. I have been guilty of the snide comment part somewhat and I personally even left the board twice now because of how almost gleefully negative so many posters are. Constructive negativity I'm fine with but a lot of posters go way beyond that. I recently put 6 posters on ignore and I have to say the boards are wonderful without having to see those particular posts, I would strongly suggest you go along with the suggestion to just block some people that really bother you. It makes all the difference in the world.
  3. Cain would be in the top 100 for sure and probably top 25. He is 39th in K% for qualified hitters and 22nd in BB%. Combine those two in some way and he is pretty high up there.
  4. I'm not sure we gave up anything of value for Schoop is my one argument here. I think we culled some players who really weren't worth a 40 man roster spot. Schoop is roughly the same as VIllar offensively and is a better fielder at 2B at least. He offers some stability at the position next year until Hiura is ready to be called up as well. I probably would not have made that deal but I don't think it is some super failure either.
  5. It's fine to disagree but don't call people's opinions "idiotic". If you don't like where the board is going post something to improve it. Sorry if I offend but sometimes what people say is really just wrong. Saying the team did nothing to improve itself at the all star break is ignorant at best, pure and simple. It has no basis in truth and shows a complete lack of understanding of the game. They aren't the moves I would have made personally but they still improved the team.
  6. I still don't get why people think the team has struggled since May. They had one bad 9 game stretch. They were fine before it and fine after it. At some point you are going to have a cruddy stretch, every team goes through it. From June 1st through July 10th they were 19-15. From July 23rd until today they are 14-12. The struggle was a 9 game stretch in mid July and CC had very little blame in that stretch imo.
  7. I like him better as a pitching prospect. Not in blue. Seriously who can’t use a knuckleball pitcher? Stearns has been mystified by the catcher position since day one so it’s no shock that he brings in a 38 year old career nobody to a team looking to acquire “young controllable talent”. The Brewers have been snakebit at C because everyone they put in the position since they traded Lucroy has been hurt. Having 4 or 5 guys hurt non stop does not make you mystified, it means you had an injury stack.
  8. By not pitching this year Nelson is limited next year. He can’t go from 0 to 200 innings. That isn't how it works. You build your IP based on the highest of your career, not the past season. He may be limited to like 180 IP or something but not to 100 IP or less. The rebuild has barely started so I don't get how you can be down on the future. We have a ton of talent in the minors and almost none of that talent has seen time yet, these are the filler guys almost making the playoffs, not the rebuild.
  9. A 1 year deal for Broxton at $15 million is a steal for a team. I would not offer him a 3 year deal for $45 but 1 year for $15 is an easy yes if I need an OF.
  10. ✍️ Nice to get a win today, but the hitting continues to be weak. Trading Villar and a couple of minor leaguers to the O's for Schoop was not David Stearns finest hour. Villar is hitting well for Baltimore. It looked like a bad trade then, and it is looking worse now. Also how does Darnell Cole keep his job? Schoop is a much better fielder than Villar and a better baserunner. The minor leaguers in the deal are non factors long term and we have Schoop for next year while we break in Keston. It is a deal I probably wouldn't have made either but it isn't some disaster and it did improve the team for this season.
  11. Which is the only reason we don't have one of the worst rotations in baseball. The fact Counsell has gotten these results from this terrible rotation is a huge plus not a negative.
  12. I see a whole lot of opinions in this thread and very few facts and the opinions mostly aren't rooted in facts. Just sad to see what this board has become. I don't agree with every thing the team has done but that doesn't mean Stearns has been awful and the fact we are only slightly over .500 in since the all star break doesn't mean the team is collapsing or failing. The fact some people are saying the team didn't improve at all at the deadline speaks volumes, that is simply an idiotic stance. it may not have improved at the spots you wanted it to but this current team is better than the team we fielded to start the season except for injuries, there really is no argument against that.
  13. Is the skid being 14-13 since the all star break or is it just losing 3 games in a row like every single team in baseball does every few weeks. Just confused by the basic question.
  14. There are definitely two parts to this. The Brewers have played poorly in day games and Sunday games are usually day games. I completely believe in that part of it. Counsell rests guys on Sunday and that is why we lose is the part I don't believe at all. It is a well known practice for every team in baseball to rest guys on Sunday. It makes filling out fantasy lineups a huge headache on Sunday because so many players that normally start have the day off. This really is not something specific to the Brewers at all. I don't believe that has much of anything to do with this stat. Also I'm curious where you got the record by day. Did you just add it up on your own or does a site actually split that data up? That would be something interesting to look at if it is a split somewhere easy to get.
  15. Ok stop with the parsing of our record like it means anything. However you parse this teams record is going to be defined completely by their one terrible stretch so you can make it look any way you want it to. The team was 55-37 on July 10th. They proceeded to go 1-8 over their next 9 games. Since that time they are 12-10 coming off of a loss. If we miss the playoffs it isn't because the team played .500 for X number of games including mid July. It is going to be because we went 1-8 in that 9 game stretch. That one stretch alone turns a 90 win team into an 85 win team. Any way you parse our record that includes that 9 game stretch is going to completely change the narrative in ways that aren't really true.
  16. The schedule was mostly set when we traded everyone away and built the farm system. So I'm not going to really worry about missing the playoffs until Hiura is playing full time and two or three of our rotation spots are held down by players from our system instead of filler guys we got on the cheap in free agency. If you had asked me what the 2018 teams record was going to be back in 2015 I would have guessed 90+ losses, so we are way ahead of schedule. That isn't really a good thing unless we make the playoffs though, the worst spot to be in is this in between spot.
  17. Since June 1st the Brewers are 15th in ERA and 16th in wOBA. Seems like they have been pretty league average. Though to be honest league average is competitive in the NL this year.
  18. 6 games into the season if one team is 1-5 and the other is 1-0 the loss column really means nothing at all. The only time the loss column matters is when you get to about 20 games or less.
  19. This is not a surprise and the people who were counting on Nelson all year long were simply wrong at this point. They weren't wrong because there was no chance for him to come back, they were wrong because many said you couldn't count on him for anything and were just hoping he gave you something. If you didn't believe there was a really good chance he wasn't going to pitch this year you simply were wrong, plain and simple. There was a chance he would give us something this season and I was hoping he would, but there was no way in heck you could count on it is all I'm saying. This is not even slightly a surprise.
  20. Sunday is a very classic day off for players in baseball, this isn't a Brewer thing. It likely means nothing for any specific team.
  21. Id say getting Kyle Hendricks and Carl Edwards for Ryan Dempster, Anthony Rizzo for Andrew Cashner, and Jake Arrieta and Pedro Strop for Scott Feldman were ok trades...... Oh and Addison Russell for Jeff Samardzija. You had me until Russell for Samardzija. Not sure which of those two has been worse overall. Both have been below average.
  22. Glasnow just needed to get away from Searage. You have to pitch his way when you play for the Pirates and his way doesn't work for a lot of guys.
  23. It was a lot of bloop hits and bad defense. Hard to really hang this game completely on Guerra. If Counsell pulled a pitcher every time someone on this board wanted him too we would have to sign a new pitcher every day just to get enough innings. Counsell is to blame for everything. Someone is probably going to come blame Braun's injury on him somehow.
  24. That post is so bizarre considering the Brewers have gained playoff probability since the all streak break. People are treating the team like it has collapsed recently and it has done nothing but move in the positive direction.
  25. No, I think you can make a pretty strong case that Soria should have been up after the second walk. No you really can't. It was back to back full counts with decently located strike 3's that just weren't swung at. You can make a weak case since Knebel has struggled in general but few managers are going to warm up a pitcher in that situation with their closer. If it had been 2 very clear cut walks that is completely different, but that isn't what actually happened here. On a different day that is 2 strike outs and not two walks. The case that someone else should be the closer is way better than the 9th should have been handled differently once you use him.
