  1. Not pitching until September is like saying out for the year. You cannot count on him for anything at that point.
  2. How's that strategy working for ESPN? Their ratings have been going down for a long time. The sooner these networks realize they can grow their fan base beyond just the big markets by actually showing teams from other markets their rating might start to grow as well. They take such a short term view of things that they end up making less in the end. The ratings on ESPN are down for every single team of every single sport. The market is spreading out and they don't control it all anymore. The NFL is rapidly dying from all of the concussion stuff, the NBA is taking off because everyone loves all the twitter nonsense of the players. Baseball needs to find a way to embrace the younger generation and ditch the old white dude who thinks every show of emotion is an insult attitude that is has.
  3. I think they are going to struggle late in the season because their pitching is so young and that just tends to be what happens with young pitching. Getting used to 30+ starts is very difficult.
  4. Because managers rarely warm up their best RP and don't use them in the game. Why would he warm him up while down 2-0 and refuse to use him down 2-1, that would make no sense at all the way most managers run their bullpens.
  5. He was warming up earlier. I'm sure they would not have him warming up if he has some minor injury. They wouldn't have him warming up and not use him there either. He very easily could have felt something while warming up. That would make this all make 100% complete sense to me.
  6. Sheets wasnt' the only injury. The offense got banged up and collapsed which is why CC had to pitch every other day ot will us into the playoffs. That season easily could have gone very differently for us. On top of that it looked like we were going to get 2 top draft picks as compensation the next season. CC ended up being valued behind Teix which means we missed out on Mike Trout and Sheets never got healthy so never got anything for him.
  7. My guess is it comes out that Hader has some minor injury tomorrow. It would also make sense if they have decided to stretch him out as a starter because of the Suter injury. If they stuck with Zagurski just because we were still down a run then I'll agree that Counsell mismanaged this game. Last nights game was just fine though, nothing at all wrong with how he ran the bullpen.
  8. I felt the first half of the video was just awkward all around, like the people who made it didn't really have a clue what they were planning to do with it. The second half was much better.
  9. Yeah Cain is hurt so he is highly unlikely, Aguilar is hurt by the position even in a weak season for 1B like this. My guess is Hader makes it and that is it. Edit: Wow major typo saying Hader instead of Aguilar.
  10. Don't sleep on that play by Thames early. I was sure that ball was going to drop and put us in deep trouble before Peralta ever got going. That play changed the complexion of the game.
  11. I don't have any issues with Barnes pitching just to be clear. I do think he is sort of the Nick Pivetta of RP though. When Pivetta doesn't have it he tends to just get crushed, there is no coming back. Barnes has shown a bit of the same thing. This specific outing wasn't like that though, he was throwing strikes, he was getting the kind of contact you want from a RP, they were just getting hits. I do consider Barnes a bit of a wild card when he comes in though.
  12. Ok so this has been a pretty good game and it may be too much to ask since we did this last night. But can we please get an add on run here just to make the 9th less stressful.
  13. That is a good point if it had been Oliver Drake I'd be all over Counsell since I know Drake is the worst RP to ever play the game!
  14. Wow that was a really bad pitch by Jeffress there. Sometimes you luck out. Edit: Another really bad one.
  15. Broxton has K'd 11 times in 28 AB's since being called up... Some things never change... To be fair the absolute best time to strike out is with nobody on, so pinch hitting with a high K but ok OBP guy with power is your best bet with a player like Broxton. You want to avoid doing it anytime he needs to move runners around.
  16. This seems odd to go with Jeffress here, hope it works. I have to assume Hader needs another day off?
  17. He didn't complain about the fan. He asked them to rule it fan interference which would have been an out and the runners wouldn't have moved up.
  18. I imagine Hader was being saved for the stretch with Freeman and Markakis. Maybe they stick with Jennings for it but my guess is this is Hader time.
  19. It wasn't a mistake though. He had thrown 11 pitches, got a few flair hits against him and then got exactly what he wanted and Shaw screwed up the play. Counsell did nothing wrong there.
  20. Because it took four hits and a walk to get him out. No one is complaining he started the inning. Oh come on now. Those were not hard hit balls and one of them probably should have been an out at home plate if Shaw wasn't so bad at balls hit in front of him. This is just back seat managing. If you are going to take the RP after 3 hitters when they are getting that type of hit you are just being silly. You could maybe argue take him out after the 4th but he got exactly the type of contact he wanted on the 4th hitter so not like he made a mistake.
  21. Wow tough crowd. RP who has only given up runs in one outing in over a month and has a .474 OPS against in that time frame has a bad 7th inning and now people are calling out the manager.
  22. I don't like our rotation at all but it has still somehow been above average. The defense and the game planning seems to be enough to get by with them. I do worry about our chances in a playoff series, especially if Peralta wears down and can't be part of the rotation. Anderson seems to be coming around at least, that is good news.
