  1. It would be a huge mistake to bring Arcia up before September so this isn't an issue anytime soon. By the time Arcia is up we likely will have traded Hill. Arcia's current AAA stats translate into a below average hitter in the majors so it isn't like he is pressing the issue. He is showing no ability to take a walk, very little power and some empty AVG. He translates to Jean Segura atm, and not the good one we've seen this year.
  2. Arcia is hitting a pretty empty .300. He has a ton of room for improvement before he comes up. The walk rate is a serious issue.
  3. I don't disagree with this idea in some circumstances, but remember that the Brewers somewhat did this a decade ago and ended up with Jeff Suppan, Randy Wolf, Shaun Marcum, Kyle Lohse, and Matt Garza. They did trade for Sabathia but couldn't afford to keep him. The Cubs can afford Jon Lester and to overpay Lackey...maybe can even afford the historic contract that Arrieta will get. The Brewers barely can do any of this. The Cubs basically got really lucky getting a cheap ace who always had potential but just never showed it. Same way the Pirates got lucky that Liriano suddenly found his stuff again. Sometimes risks like those pay off big. It isn't a very high percentage play though.
  4. Regardless names have value. He would have never been a bad signing at his price tag because a little luck turns him into a big trade chip.
  5. I just don't get some of these claims you make. It would be true if he were plagued by nagging injuries or if he were old, but he's neither. He turns 30 this year...he should have a minimum of 3-4 good years left in him. Since when is 29 old? He's expected to still have several more years of his prime. As for injuries, he hasn't had chronically bad knees, a balky back, tender hamstrings, etc. He's had injuries, but so has every MLB player besides Ripken (who had injuries, just not bad ones). If we believe we can contend in 2-3 years, Lucroy may be our only path to having an above average contributor at catcher. Even factoring in aging, he should maintain having decent doubles-power and OBP. His whole field approach should age fairly well. He's signed VERY cheaply for next year as well. If a team overwhelms us, then a trade can be warranted. But there's no reason to actively be trying to move such a solid, affordable player who has previously attempted to negotiate a "career contract." Catcher, more than any other position, is one where I'm reluctant to dump someone. Maybe I have bad memories of the constant string of poor talent we had--Nilsson (nice bat, terrible D), Matheny, Blanco, Lampkin, Oliver, Harper, Hughes, Moeller, Estrada, Zaun, Kendall, etc. There aren't many catchers that are good defensively, good offensively, and affordable--Lucroy is one of them. Hence why I'd rather consider extending him than trading him, unless that notion of a career contract is gone. He may want to finish out his Brewers career as part of our next successful wave. If he won't re-sign, then I understand trading him in '16 if overwhelmed with an amazing offer (like Gomez) Sorry but given the rebuild I can't think of anything more ridiculous than extending Lucroy. That would be a fire-able offense if they decided to do it, like day of the contract I would lose 100% confidence.
  6. He put together 2 teams that were fully capable of winning a World Series. The 2008 and 2011 teams both had all the tools they needed to win one. Just because they lost in the playoffs doesn't change that fact. If the 2008 team doesn't tank the final month and make Sabathia pitch his arm off and if the 2011 team doesn't wet the bed because they have a mental block against the Cardinals they both had very good shots at it. If the powers that be had rated Sabathia over Teixiera in the free agent market we likely would have had Mike Trout in 2011 as well which probably would have pushed us into the WS. That season when neither Sheets or Sabathia got us the pick they should have was really devastating to the franchise. Melvin was an above average GM in his time with the team. He is a bit long in the tooth to start another rebuild though so I'm definitely glad they made the change.
  7. I would be running the team assuming we start to get competitive in 2018 or 2019. It takes time for young pitching to develop and that is really the biggest hurdle we have. I wouldn't bring Arcia up until September either unless he absolutely blows up AAA which he isn't so far. I'd have him really work on taking pitches as he just isn't walking enough in AA and AAA and it is going to be a major concern when he hits the majors. Edit : To expand on this I mean 2018 or 2019 is when we start trying to win games. It usually takes a couple years to go from there to actually being a playoff team. Like the Royals of 2011/2012. Everyone talked about how they were up and coming but they didn't really start to put it together until 2013. I can envision a Brewer playoff team but it probably isn't until at least 2020 at the very earliest and more likely 2021 or later.
  8. It wasn't a good rotation either.
  9. April stats are pretty worthless. I'm assuming they will improve but it isn't like this was ever going to be a top end rotation.
  10. I consider the future as players who will be part of the next team that is competitive. I don't think Scooter will be around for that.
  11. Yeah I'd say that Scooter is trade bait so letting him work through things gives him a lot more value. He does have 6 BB vs LHP in just 17 PA which is a marked improvement if he can keep it up partially. I'm really not sure anyone that played full time last year is part of the future. Guys like Santana might be.
  12. According to Segura, it was not. At least according to that article. It was a suggestion from Luis Mercedes. Who has nothing to do with the Diamondbacks, this has nothing to do with the team he was on. Chase Anderson is a real MLB pitcher, dissing him after his worst start of the year seems silly. He may not be an ace but he has some value. Diaz is a real prospect. We got a lot of value in this trade. I don't know if we won it but we definitely got some value.
  13. So Arrieta is about to throw a no hitter and we are all supposed to be impressed. Truth is out of his last 10 starts this was not in the top 4. Lot of hard hit balls right at guys and 4 walks. He has been insanely good for half a year now but this game will get way too much praise over the rest of them.
  14. Perfect time to fix the horrible situation that is the pitcher hitting. Make the leagues fair and give them both a DH and stop us from watching the biggest mismatch in all of sports. Though that indeed will make it harder for me to go get a snack since you take out the who cares if you see it TV moments of the game.
  15. If something works 60% of the time it still fails 40%. There are probably times they should tone down on the shifts but overall they are a good thing.
  16. Buxton is a non threat for HR so I don't see the big deal with it. I imagine if he had gotten a hit they would have swapped pitchers.
  17. There is a reason that after trading for him the Pirates haven't played him yet this year even though he is 28 years old. They converted a lifetime mediocre C to 1B instead of giving him even a chance at a platoon. Jason Rogers is nothing but a filler option on a major league team. The Brewers simply do not need that type of player during a rebuild.
  18. Just stop gap it with mediocre talents and don't waste any options imo. No reason to worry about the quality of the CF for 2016.
  19. Pitching against the Cardinals at home is not a very good barometer of a mediocre pitcher, they clobber everyone. I'd let him face the @Twins and vsPhillies and if there are no positive signs against those two teams I'd send him down. Having played many many years of fantasy baseball so being forced to really pay attention to these things, loads of pitchers have awful Aprils every year so I'm a bit more patient than most with a bad start.
  20. Three people predicted it in the predictions thread. Many more said they would win 70+ than they would lose 100. In fact, you predicted 94 losses, one of the higher totals in that thread. Wasn't speaking specifically for this site, a lot of analysts on TV said this team would just be awful. I also said we were more likely to be .500 than lose 100 games in the thread about it. That might seem counter intuitive but I think we will trade as much as we can which will force us to 90+ losses but if we cant' find trade partners i think the team has constructed is more like a mid to high 70 win team that just takes a bit of luck to hit .500.
  21. 8 games in, still .500. Getting much harder to reach that 100 losses many predicted.
  22. I fully expect to lose this game, but it is really nice to see the approaches at the plate against a reliever like Rosenthal. Making him throw 25 pitches is awesome. And as I type this Santana hits a 2 run HR, even better
  23. Just wait till the "who do we get at the deadline" posts start popping up. That will be entertaining though as will September call-ups. I just figured April through the deadline was going to be dull but so far April has been fun.
  24. I almost didn't get mlb.tv because this season is sort of a throw away but I'm finding this team pretty entertaining to watch so far.
