  1. This is really coming down to the wire. I'm very nervous right now.
  2. The slot recommendation for the number nine pick is around 2 million dollars. If the Brewers are only 500k off I would eat it and let the kid have his way. Especially since we failed to sign Covey last season.
  3. The kid keeps mashing! I will be watching Arcia very closely.
  4. Texas topped that with a record deal. But it IS the first day. I am hoping the Brewers offer a significant amount for someone, but I find it unlikely with the draft talent we virtually have to sign.
  5. The cover story on Brewerfan.net's main page (Shea Vucinich Interview) will be one year old. What's the deal here?
  6. I would think Thornburg too. I also say Kentrail Davis takes another bump up the prospect ratings nationally.
  7. What happens if Lucroy gets one in the dirt? Does he just keep the hand behind him at all costs? Seem like a reflex-thing to me......
  8. If Sonny Gray fell to that point in the draft (13th) the Brewers would be insane to pass on him. Gray has top-five potential. I actually think Gray and Bauer should be flopped here and the Brewers will target Bauer. After losing Covey last season they need to select college-pitching in this ultra-deep once-every-seven-year-type drafts. I would be super-surprised to see Owens last until the 33 overall and Esposito should go higher as well. I don't feel, however, that college bats are the first need as we have Davis, Morris, and a couple others waiting in the minors.
  9. This is going to be down to Prince and Braun. Both have come into camp in-shape. I would put the edge towards Fielder as I honestly see a .275-95-42-118 year in him. Fielder knows exactly what he's doing.
  10. 18 years in organized baseball, and I can say with complete certainty that long-toss was the thing that helped my arm-strength the most.
  11. Brushing up on the potential 2011 draft, I have been speculating on how the Brewers are going to use their selections. As I see it they have no real choice to me other than to go pitcher-pitcher with the twelfth and the fifteenth. I would be absolutely thrilled to see Sonny Gray fall to that level because of questions regarding his size, but I don't think that'll happen. The Brewers would be smart to go college pitcher-college pitcher with the picks. I would be against drafting any young position players unless their names are Starling or Bradley. I don't believe in signing high-school, first round catchers so for me Swihart is out. My bet right now is that Bauer, Barnes, Hultzen, or Gray is one of the two selections. I would be open to one of the two being a high-schooler as well but I would go big with the "ultraprojectable" Henry Owens or more polished Archie Bradley. I want to see two pitchers atop the Brewers top-ten prospects next season.
  12. Most of Reyes' value right now, sadly, is dictated by if Wilmer Flores can stay at SS for the Mets. It's not a good bet either.
  13. Agreed on Punto. I like his tools when healthy. And this guy has NEVER had over 500AB's in a season and hasn't had over 400 in three years.
  14. I think it's important to remember that this is pretty much risk-free time with a pitcher who could develop into a very solid option. If he pitches well we can approach an extension, but if he pitches terribly we have little invested. At the very least this puts the Brewers into a very controllable situation financially.
  15. Many media outlets now are stating that Zack Greinke will now accept a trade to any club virtually nullifying his 10-team no-trade list. This from Rotoworld's Twitter: https://twitter.com/#!/Rotoworld_BB/statuses/11534858312486913
  16. Although I wouldn't go as far as a Braun-type player I agree. It's going to be damn hard to pluck Sandoval as he's under financial control for years.
  17. I just don't see the Brewers adding a sub-mega-contract like Carl Crawford with Braun there and Cain playing well. Hart would be the best fit at first as he's tall. Braun has played well enough out there. Statistically, he really isn't that far off a Hart-type fielding corner OF.
  18. Still think Jeffress can live up to Brandon Morrow? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  19. I'm not really sure how anyone can doubt the Braves pitching development. I just don't see the logic or the history there.
  20. How Scarpetta is that low is beyond me. And Odorizzi should be #2 right now.
  21. Absolutely not. Standing pat on Hart right now has "Bill Hall" written all over it. But I agree that I would want a Minor/Bumgarner type arm over Sanchez.
  22. This thread made me laugh.
  23. Kentrail Davis was actually KILLING it in the beginning of the year. What a tailspin.
  24. Hart for Jordan Zimmerman and Marrero. I would take the risk on Zimmerman. I would be down.
  25. Braun and Gallardo shouldn't be moved except for the best prospect package you could think of. The deals that Melvin put together for those two will go down as his legacy; like him or not. I would consider McGehee untouchable as well. Those that want to sell high on McGehee haven't bought onto the fact that we may actually have found a true diamond in the rough here. Understandable, but I think Casey is the real deal. Speculation on Fielder will change a ton before July 20th, which is the time the Brewers will look to make a deal (if at all this season). The Brewers need to wait for teams making playoff pushes to get desperate and offer better packages. It's just too early to speculate. Although I didn't think so before I see Tampa as a real possibility for Fielder as they lose Pena. This would get them a situation where he could DH/1B for their playoff push and allow them to let Pena walk next season. I would be very intrigued with a Fielder for Hellickson/Moore. We may just be able to pull that off too as Moore hasn't been the brightest star this season, but has a ton of upside. Hellickson is virtually major-league ready and could come up in September. I also say Atlanta fits this mold. But I think it's optimistic to see them part with Julio Teheran as that's definately who we'd be after. Fielder for Teheran and Freeman wouldn't be bad. Fielder for Teheran and Delgado would be ideal.
