  1. Boras won't allow Prince to be signed during the year. So if we don't get to him, we have to deal with him next year when he's arby eligible and Mauer and Pujols are potentially there.... I never thought I see a Brewer player get into the 20+ million a year category.
  2. I don't think Hudson is the worst option, but 3/$30 kind of scares me for a guy who had a ton of early-career innings on his arm and hasn't seen more than 145IP (last=42.1IP) in two years. He doesn't give up many HR's though and that's something I haven't seen in a while though.... I guess Jeff Suppan Syndrome is going to be a yearly thing now.....
  3. I'm not really sure if I am in the minority here or not, but I actually think Hart will rebound next season and be quite a nice player. Hart's one of the harder players on the club for me to gauge sentiment on. He really could easily be back to all star levels quite easily. Kawakami seems like he could easily go the other way watching his ERA balloon up to around 5.00 and he isn't young either. It's just not enough to me.
  4. Yes. Really. It's pretty simple. You don't take a potential Hall Of Fame closer and make him a starter. You leave him be. Joba I can see. But Papelbon's already had success. And not the middle-of-the-pack success that other closers turned starters have had, but top tier "if he pitches this way for ten more years he'll be one of the best ever" success. The guy already has 151 saves and a 1.84 career ERA and is only 29. You don't mess with that.
  5. I mentioned this in another thread, and Seattle also loses Beltre and Branyan. Yes, they may bring them back, but I could definately see a Hardy-Gamel deal to Seattle. Now, this wouldn't garner King Felix or anything, but the pieces sure fit nicely.
  6. Although I love Felipe Lopez, I don't think it's a wise economic move to bring him back as he is more likely than ever before to get a salary increase.
  7. I would be very excited to land a player like Josh Johnson. I think Gallardo and Johnson could be a great power-duo for the next ten years!
  8. A Bumgarner-type is WAY more valuable than Gamel. The Giants would want Gamel and another pitching prospect for Bumgarner. They would probably just laugh at us. Pitchers like Feliz, Bumgarner, Matusz/Tillman, have surpassed Gamel's value about a year ago.
  9. I would agree. Gamel looks to be the one to go. Obviously you would think an AL team that has pitching and needs a corner infielder. Texas has pitching but is out as they are log-jammed with Chris Davis, Justin Smoak, whatever they do with Blalock, etc. The Angels, Detroit, Kansas City, and Tampa are almost certainly out as well. Seattle? Branyan and Beltre are both free agents and Seattle probably wants to go younger and cheaper should they extend King Felix. Who else? Baltimore? I am not sure I'd want to downgrade slightly to a Jake Arrieta or a Jeremy Guthrie (nor do I think they would even-swap Guthrie and Gamel, ironically). And although I think he could play in Oakland, they're main young arms took off too quickly this season. Minnesota makes sense as Gamel could replace Tolbert, but I would want Blackburn in return in some sort of deal. If you look through the AL teams, there really isn't that great of a fit right now.
  10. I still say trying to pry Paul Maholm away from the PIrates makes sense. They need a young shortstop and the value is about equal. We may have to offer an additional type-b prospect but he has upside.
  11. I understand he has no upside. I was thinking more of a year to two-year contract until Lucroy (or Salome) are truly ready.
  12. True. I would rather trade Ryan Braun than Yovani. And I am not joking....
  13. And that's enough to overcome the increases in power, run production, and defense? You can say Kendall is good defensively, but lets face it.... Kendall's defense last season was an anomaly.
  14. On top of that I have a hard time seeing where the Braves would have interest in either Alcides Escobar (or Hardy). Yunel Escobar is too good a fielder to move to another position besides SS.
  15. How come no one has brought up Bengie Molina? I know he's 35 years old, but he's sick defensively and a free agent this offseason. He's still sick defensively and can run a game. He hits better than Kendall did as well. Thoughts?
  16. Wow.....I know Jeffress made some stupid decisions given his circumstances, but let's get real. Making rash generalizations about his intelligence level because he smoked some weed is simply ridiculous. Plenty of successful people, even pop icons have been caught smoking weed. Aaron Sorkin was caught doing mushrooms. Although it did some damage to his reputation, no one denied that the guy was a genius screen-writer. To this point he's lost development time and no, I am not ready to give up on Jeffress yet.
  17. I would take a gamble on Harden vs. a Suppan-type as Harden misses a ton of bats. I am guessing that the Schlubs make a run at Harden as they are cautiously shutting him down for the rest of the season....... I am not about to get into a hard bidding war for the guy though.
  18. 20th in the Carolina League or similar is WAY different than 20th in the AZL. People should really only get excited by the top five in BA's rankings for the AZL.
  19. I agree still as well. Salome seems a more advanced hitter who simply has been hampered by injury. I vote they stay at their current levels until we absolutely can't hold one of them down any longer. I also think Lucroy is going to struggle vs AAA pitching before he's ready.
  20. I am more encouraged by the futures game buzz that Lawrie received from attending scouts than his actual statistical output at such a young age. I say yes.
  21. I have always backed Salome and still don't understand how he can be behind Lucroy in the Power-50. He's playing a level higher at the same age, injured, and Lucroy has been nothing to get so excited about (minus what he's done in the past 10-15 games). Homered tonight, although had an error and a PB. Keep the faith!
  22. Screw that! Some of us look forward to the changes and opinions in these lists from month to month. C'mon! Don't take away our monthly power update! And, BTW....BA only does them once or twice a year because they have to cover the entire minor league system, not just one team.
  23. True. I, for one, am actually encouraged by this signing.
  24. Julio Teheran was just promoted to Rome. I hear he's nasty. Try to get to see him.
  25. Isn't that sort of an oxymoron? Personally I would rather make a play for Kazmir.
