I do realize these feelings are in the midst of a Yelich hot streak... but I think he will garner MVP votes by the time this season ends... (Cain will as well, and rightly so, as his defense is an attribute...) but what a hitter. Hitting nearly .333 against LHP. Hits to all fields. Currently sitting 8th in Batting Average in the National League. 12th in OBP. 11th in Slugging Percentage. 8th in Runs Scored. 11th in OPS. 13th in steals. If he hadn't missed a few games he would be arguably top 10 in more of the "gathering" stats. I think he grows into some more power in the coming years also. Absolutely stole him. He and Hiura are going to be so much fun to watch the next couple of years.

I always find it interesting/fun to revisit trades at certain points and ask myself "If I could reverse this trade right now would I do it?" Would anyone trade Yelich right now back for the guys we gave up for him? I know it is only half a season. It'll be fun to revisit next year again, etc

You could also break this down into a now vs 2020 argument as Brinson *should* develop and Cain *should* decline. However for the sake of this argument I will answer for this upcoming season... Best offensive pairing: #1. Yelich and Cain are both going to flirt with .300/.350/.800 and combine for 35-40 HRs hitting in the 1 and 2 spots in the order. That's crazy. If you think we are selling high on Santana.. there is only one answer to this question. If you think Santana improves on his 2017 .. then you can argue he paired with either Yelich or Cain could duplicate what I'm anticipating from CY and LC. Best defensive pairing: #1 Yelich and Cain and I don't think this one is close. Santana is below average, Broxton regressed last year. Phillips has the best arm of the group but is certainly not as rangy as the new hires. Yelich has a gold glove and Cain probably should have a couple to his name and both played in much larger ballparks where they had to cover more ground. I would welcome the argument that Yelich and Cain are not the best combo of what we *could have* had. Their range alone will improve our pitching staff noticeably I think I'm biased towards Yelich because I think he will be a top 15 MVP candidate this year swinging in Miller Park ... but I don't see how another pairing makes us better.

The team just traded arguably their two top OF prospects. I think the onus is on Grisham and Ray to start fulfilling their potential. I imagine both will be at AA this year. Time to put up or shut up. Exactly. Let's see how these guys can do. The OF is fine for a few years - they can be ready when they are ready (if ever). The control we have in our major league outfield right now is crazy. Barring major injury, all prospects are blocked until Cain possibly starts declining in 2020? 2021? Cain and Yelich are controlled for 5 years, Phillips for 6, Braun through 2020 I believe plus Santana, although I am mentally preparing for him to be dealt. We may have given up our top 2 OF prospects ... but the next time we need a guy to be something other than a trade chip may very well be Lutz in 3 years or something similar as long as we stay competitive and don't deal anyone from that core.

Yelich won a Gold Glove 2 years ago. I'd challenge that projection.

Quit with this level-headed reason! This is a time for hysterics!! I HATE IT I LOVE IT I HATE IT I LOVE IT. Just teasing. There was no way we were getting Yelich without getting stun a bit. It's ok to be happy and sad about the deal. Without a major regression from Shaw and assuming at least a minimal rebound from Villar ... Milwaukee's lineup is going to be really, really competent.

Couple questions pop up right away. 1) Another trade has to follow this, yes? We are still 5 deep in the outfield. Will it be a minor move with Broxton or a major one with Santana? My guess is Santana is the guy to go as we would be selling high on him and we would be selling low on Broxton. 2) Where is he playing? Right now, he is in CF with Santana/Braun in the corners. If Santana is moved... does Braun slide to right so Yelich can play his gold glove position? 3) I may be wrong here, but Yelich seems like a perfect #2 hitter to me and I think most are going to pencil him into the lead off spot. Is Villar going to be given a shot to take the lead off spot initially with a Yelich/Braun/Shaw/Santana/Thames follow up? I'm mentally preparing for a Santana trade ... but as it currently stands that 2-6 is pretty nasty. I love Yelich in Milwaukee. I think we just added an MVP candidate for the next 3+ years.
