  1. Not that it would've done anything but I would've been ok with Counsel coming out and arguing after Broxtons AB and getting a little fired up.
  2. Looking forward to some Jimmy tonight. He's established himself as not only the ace of this team but one of the top arms in all of MLB.
  3. You may want to mention Melvin in that equation with your snide remark as he has a huge imprint on that roster. Probably just as much as Stearns at this point. These are the type of comments that just aren't called for. Heaven forbid some posters don't agree with Stearns. You are correct, my last comment was uncalled for. I apologize. I realize not everyone agrees with Stearns and this is an in game thread and gets to be a pretty reactionary thing. I'm upset they're getting their butts handed to them too by what I think is an inferior team at home. I actually think Melvin was a good GM and yes he has some markings still on this roster. I don't think it has to be all or nothing or one or the other with these guys. You can think they both are decent GMs or both are not good; whatever. I'm not sure I've ever seen Stearns called a genius and I don't think those that support what he's doing think that either. Obviously he's not perfect. I'd argue more good than bad at this point. In my opinion it's just as easy to point out short comings after the fact, as it is to point out what went right after the fact. I mean, dang him for trading away Lucroy, Jeffress, and Thornburg. Time will tell if he's making the right moves, but it's been a frustrating few weeks for sure.
  4. Oh, right; Gennett was let go because he had no trade value. He's having the year this season that Villar had last year. I'll agree it sucks that maybe he had something to offer and it's not with the Brewers but I doubt there's anybody in baseball that saw more in Gennett coming into this year than Villar. Webb got the chance to throw all of eight innings. His AAA stats over the last two seasons are the pitching equivalent of what Cooper did this season at AAA with the bat. Way to nitpick though; the only reason why the Brewers are as close as they are now is because the not "genius" has created a pretty good roster in year two of a rebuild. I know it's really tough to comprehend.
  5. Yuck! Pretty embarrassing couple of games in front of the home crowd. Booooo
  6. For me this one qualifies as the most disappointing loss of the season. A shutout loss to Bartolo Colon at home. Missing opportunity to get back into 1st. Still going to be an interesting stretch run will everyone except for the Reds in the mix.
  7. I think Garza most definitely has value going to next season. No, it's not significant and I agree that he'll only bring back a very limited return but if they wanted I have 0 doubt that a team would give something in the range of their 20-30 best prospect back. You can do all the WAR and surplus value calcs you want but even 160 innings of 4.25 ERA ball has value. I mean, go and check out the depth charts and most team's 4-5 starters aren't very good and many of them are downright horrendous when all the numbers are compiled at the end of the year. I'd trade him for whatever they can get in the off-season, as the Brewers have guys that really should be able to fill that #5 spot in the rotation next season. I'd have to think there are plenty of teams not in that situation and would love to pay $5 mil for Garza to round out their starting 5.
  8. Maybe it was just a bad game for Susac but yeah, he was constantly moving around behind the plate and on multiple occasions dropped his glove to the dirt after he caught what were very close pitches. Then again, maybe alot of catchers do that and I just am not really paying attention.
  9. Um, that was poor. Both sides and the home plate ump were not very good.
  10. On the extreme optimistic end I think Tom Glavine worked mid-80s for a good portion of his career. Of course, Suter won't have the advantage of being able to get a call, "painting" 6-8 inches off the corner.
  11. Hopefully the Crew can put a bunch of wins on the board here in the next couple weeks because their schedule looks brutal at the end of August. Nine game west coast trip that includes the Dodgers followed by a home stand that includes 4 against the Nats? Wow. I'm pretty optimistic but that's a not nice stretch of games.
  12. I think he gets every chance to start from spring next season. A team like the Brewers has to give him every chance to start. Outside of Nelson, I'd say he's more talented than anybody in our current rotation. Should Anderson come back strong, to me the only two guys that have spots assured in the rotation next year are him and Nelson.
  13. What do others make of Suter? I've said before that he's not a MLB arm. He's since proven me wrong, in a small sample. Do people think he's capable of making a career of pitching with a mid-80's fastball and working quickly? Can he be Jamie Moyer-ish? I mean, I just can't think of many comparable guys off the top of my head who have had any kind of extended success. It's kind of back-end rotation or bust for him, imo, as I don't really think his stuff has a chance to "play up" out of the bullpen. I'm obviously happy he's pitching well; just not sure it's sustainable. Maybe being a guy that throws 85 instead of 89 is enough of a difference to be unique in a way that increases his chances of success.
  14. Meh, I'm happy for the guy if it makes him happy. I'm not sure scheduling your life around a baseball team makes you the #1 fan but whatever, it's something that obviously has worked in his life. Some of the stuff sounds a bit exaggerated but really, how would I know. For me, the business-like scheduled regime would take a lot of the fun out of things.
  15. I'd like to see Brinson starting consistently for the next month or so. They can re-evaluate after that. I mean they kept him out of trade talks for a reason. Let's see what he has. At worst he gives them good defense and is likely not worse than Broxton.
  16. When we got Swarzak, I assumed it was done with the intention of getting something else. I don't really *want* the Brewers to sell off the farm to get a starter or a bunch of bullpen guys to chase the Cubs, but the trade just didn't make sense from the standpoint that it just didn't make sense to do in and of itself. It was like getting 2 flat tires and changing one of them, and saying "welp.......good enough!" Same. I thought there'd be more coming. I don't mind having another competent arm back there but it does seem pointless now.
  17. Since there is about an hour until the deadline, I'd say at this point they ARE in the conversation to the end. If the Yankees haven't finished the deal yet they're still listing. If that's really the offer count me in as wanting the Brewers to re-enter the bidding. At that price they could probably still land Gray without giving up Brinson or much pitching.
  18. I think it's going to be a quiet next few hours for the Brewers. Maybe they make a play for Kinsler or Straily. It sounds like the Marlins want a load for an average pitcher and the Kinsler thing seems to have cooled. Sometimes the best move is none at all. That might be the case this time around.
  19. Hope so. I think people will be thankful they haven't caved and traded him. I like the lineup. Feeling good about getting a game back tonight.
  20. That's a significant difference. No matter what my eyes might tell me as a GM or scout. Ray's performance thus far has been concerning. Especially for somebody who was considered an advanced college bat. I would personally not take him as a headliner of a significant deal.
  21. Um, yeah, that makes 0 sense....unless of course they're trading Brinson for Gray!!!... jk Maybe NY is trying to offload him with Reed.
  22. Honestly, I'm not sure how much would be that different. They have a pretty controlled roster that has some talent. If only their record was different I could see Thames being on the trade block and Garza would likely have been moved already. Other than that, guys like Broxton and Villar haven't performed well enough for anybody to have interest. Maybe Perez would've been dealt. I don't believe Hader would be in the bullpen. He probably would've cracked the rotation at this point. They tried to get Woodruff into the rotation but he got hurt. I don't think Brinson would've been up any sooner. Broxton played well enough either way and they likely would've wanted to try to have him build value; same with Villar.
  23. I do think they need more of a plan with him going forward. Either free him up to be a multiple inning guy this season or send him back down (not the route I would take) to stretch him back out and bring him back in a month. Maybe piggy back with Suter, that would be a nice contrast in styles too.
