  1. After what the White sox just got for a controlled starter, there is no way in hell Beane would accept that. He is looking for something similar to the Quintana trade and i don't blame him. He might be but I don't think he'll get it. Gray doesn't have the same track record as Quintana and is controllable for one fewer season. I just think a 22 year old middle infielder who's already proven he can hit MLB pitching with 25-30 hr power upside is a pretty valuable thing.
  2. I don't think the Cubs have the necessary minor league prospects for Gray. They do have young MLB guys, as others have mentioned. Happ straight up would be an excellent get for the A's, imo.
  3. Seems like a perfect fit for both teams. Are people sure that the intention isn't to see if Webb can start? I realize he hasn't really done that in the minors and has been pretty successful. He does look like he has a 3 pitch mix (fangraphs). Seems like it might be worth a trial sometime in the future; maybe not this season if the plan is to fast track him to the bullpen.
  4. If the Marlins start trading of OFs the Brewers might be a good fit to ship some young ones back. I'd have some interest in a Straily+Phelps deal.
  5. No: Hader, Woodruff, Oritz, Burnes Young starter: Brinson Open for business with anyone else.
  6. Fair deal for both sides. Glad the Brewers didn't pony up for this one.
  7. For a team that's had such a challenge developing pitching, I will not be happy if they trade Hader or Woodruff. You can probably add Ortiz and Burnes in there for me as well.
  8. I think that it's probably a fair proposal. I'm also not sure Gray is enough of a difference maker to risk those assets. If you knew you were going to make the playoffs and you knew Anderson would come back strong then maybe. I get the intrigue of a healthy Nelson, Gray, Anderson front three. I think there are other guys who would be as much of an upgrade for cheaper this season. I'm kind of ok with them just continuing to plug from internal sources for now and see what some more of our younger guys have. Really looking forward to seeing Woodruff sometime this season. Maybe it's time for me to raise my expectations but the Brewers still don't have the same talent as the Cubs and the Dodgers and Nationals are just flat out better. They are having a great season so far and have really narrowed the gap to true contention but if I'm giving up a legit part of the farm system, I would like my response to be: you know what the Brewers might be the best team in the NL. They're just not there yet.
  9. Here's another name for discussion. My one time pitching man crush Trevor Cahill. He has no history of being remotely reliable for pretty much.. well his entire career but he has done pretty well in a small sample this year. He's always been able to generate ground balls and somehow has managed to up his K% Just off the DL. The options others have started topics on are obviously better but probably won't come cheaper. Only looking at this year's performance, I'd still speculate on him being an upgrade over Davies and Guerra.
  10. Happ has turned himself into a pretty reliable starter the last couple seasons. Worth asking about.
  11. I"m not sure he would necessarily come as cheap as you might think. He should certainly be cheaper than some of the other mentioned alternatives, based on salary and age. If SF was going to do a soft sell, what do people think they'd demand in return? I like Samardzjia better than both Gray or Quintana. That probably puts me in the minority but his consistency and performance this season have been great. He can get a bit HR happy but last time I checked there was just a record set for most HRs hit in a month....most everyone is giving up HRs. Count me in for a look see: Trent Clark +Cordell, + Freddy Peralta?
  12. I guess I shall eat my words! Nice start, didn't see that comimg. Either did the Orioles apparently.
  13. Disappointed to see Suter again. He is not a MLB arm. He's Espino from the other side. Boo.
  14. No and no again. Minimum for Gray is Brinson, Ortiz, and one of Cordell Harrison Lopez and Ray. The A's will not settle for less. I don't believe Gray is worth anything close to what they will want. Yeah, I tend to think the A's will want some premium talent back for the 2+ years of Gray. I don't think Phillips will be enough. Gray's peripherals and ticked up velocity are all in the right direction. I think he'd be worth some premium talent. I don't know what it would take. Have we had any controllable young arms similar to him or Quintana moved at the deadline recently? For whatever reason I can't recall anything to make a decent comp to. It's somewhat an enticing thought (if you believe that Nelson and Anderson's improvements are for real, and sustainable then a rotation over the next couple seasons of Gray Nelson Anderson Woodruff/Hader Davies is pretty appealing. On the other hand, I still don't think that beats the Cubs when they're playing well or is enough to beat the Dodgers or Nationals in a series this season. So, at this point I guess I'm leaning towards holding what we have. On any given day you could talk me back the other way though. It's a real tough decision imo, the further we get into the season. Few teams have the minor league talent and the flexible (I'd assume) payroll to take on salary if needed as the Brewers do. When the Royals were falling out of the race I thought Vargas would be a good target. I doubt they're selling at this point though.
  15. Definitely worth asking about. I think the point that the Brewers could absorb that contract has to have some appeal and may require a lesser return. He didn't really "flip the switch" until the second half of last season either. Maybe he has a repeat performance in him. I'd be fine giving up any of those listed players.
  16. Nice list. I'd personally move Guerra down a tier and Shaw up one. Shaw is in the middle of an offensive breakout, in his prime, plays good D and controllable.
  17. Agreed. There's really not much of a debate as to whether it's an upgrade or not. Marginal improvements at multiple spots at the back end of the roster could keep this team in contention a bit longer. I appreciate the fact that Stearns an Co. are continuously looking to improve at any and all positions.
  18. I'm not interested. His average (for a reliever) K% doesn't make up of his lack of control. Sure he's better than Espino or Suter but at what cost?
  19. The Jays could potentially be in the market for a 2b. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/toronto-blue-jays I don't really want to move Villar yet. He can be a pretty dynamic player as he showed last season and obviously still has plenty of team control. I don't think Sogard is a long-term solution but if you think he can keep up 80% of what he's doing for the remainder of the season maybe it makes sense to try and extract some value from Villar while not losing a whole lot of production this season. I'm intrigued by Biagini, who's currently in Toronto's starting rotation, however I think Sanchez is coming back soon so maybe they'd be willing to move him in a potential deal. Would something like Biagini +Bo Bichette work? Am I overvaluing Villar?... maybe I'm undervaluing him? I really don't have a feel for what he might be worth after not being able to replicate what he did last year to this point.
  20. Well here we are again staying in first place. Man being the fan of a rebuilding team is rough!
  21. The Brewers will still be in first place on the 1st day of summer! The offense is still legit and making things difficult on opposing pitchers despite being without their best bat, Braun. We've gotten a glimpse into the future with Phillips, Hader and Brinson. Knebel is pitching at an elite level and Jimmy Nelson is looking like maybe he's figured things out and could be a legit Ace-light type starter. I'm still super excited to see where things go with this team. They're competitive at the MLB level and have one of the better farm systems. The future is still bright.
  22. Disappointing start. Got to chip away. Kuhl is equally not good, keep your hopes up.
  23. Peralta's time looks like it's coming to an end to me as well. I really had high hopes for him moving to the pen, but other than his first game out of the pen he's been the same guy. If you can't trust a guy to get you a couple innings, in what was a pretty low leverage situation down by three, there's really no use for him. It's just painful to give up on that arm. Some of the Brewer's pen "problems", I think are being overblown on here. The bigger issue to me is the inability of the starters to get consistently deeper into games. Yes, they could use one more guy to pitch with Knebel and Barnes in the higher leverage spots with the lead. Maybe Hader is that guy. It's tough to say as he hasn't gotten much work. The results have been ok in his limited work but he hasn't shown to be the dominant guy many have hoped for... yet. Torres could also be replaced. I think Drake and Hughes offer enough to be in the mix. We'll see what happens, but I would prefer we stick with in-house options instead of trading away prospects to fill 30-40 innings out of the pen. Now if we're talking about maybe acquiring a controllable starter then I'm at least listening, although I'd again prefer to see if some of the young guys are ready to contribute. Stearns has proven to not be one to sit idle, so I trust there's some more turnover coming.
  24. Nice. I think he'll still get his shot as starter but it could fill a need if he's ready for the challenge. While the Brewers may have downplayed it, they're most likely in a situation they didn't expect to be in right now. When there are more talented guys available in your system than what you're fielding, on what's turned out to be a competitive club so far, it's almost a move they had to make.
