  1. I think the Reds may regret this one. Considering what I thought to be Edmonds' value I'm pretty happy...
  2. Don't all these guys have their own throwing schedules on the side anyway?
  3. I think now that Axford has pretty much solidified himself as closer for the near future why not get Hoffman to 600? It'll at least give me a concrete reason to turn the Brewers on. I'll be watching anyway, but the point is that the rest of the season is just mud - give it a purpose. I'm not big on milestones but if the guy wants 600 let's give him the chance. He's busted it ever since he put on a Brewers uniform and he's been an absolute class act no matter the results. Whether he gets to 600 or not won't change anyone's opinion of him but it'll be the best moment of the Brewers' season if he does, I would think. I'm glad Macha's giving him the chance to do it.
  4. This is the kind of win that can get a lot of momentum going. I've been saying all along (though not here, rather human people) that the best chance of the Brewers' turning things around is if Hoffman earns his job back. It's one of those unquantifiable things that sometimes has an effect on everyone else on the club...maybe it's just that they stop thinking about their own problems and think "let's win one for Trevor". Maybe that's reading into it too much, but I like to believe it. Either way the team is just better when he's closing games successfully. Plus, imagine the options for Macha should Hoffman stay in the 9th. I know Hawkins hasn't been himself, but Axford, Braddock, Loe, Coffey, Hawkins is mid to late innings? Not that it's possible that they get back into contention but it'd be nice to get into some positive trends heading into 2011.
  5. That or Edmonds got claimed and traded. Though I assume it would have been reported that he was claimed in the first place...
  6. Why does everyone assume that this cements Corey's status as a long-time Brewer? I for one hope he stays around and continues to produce, but now that Corey's financial near-future is set his trade value becomes much clearer. If he stays hot and finishes around 30/100 with this contract instead of one year of a number determined in arbitration he'll net a much better return. I'm hoping he stays and maybe takes over at 1B and Fielder goes for pitching but should they have trouble dealing Prince it isn't like Hart is completely off the trade market. It's a great deal for both parties and keeps a lot of options available in the front office...
  7. I don't think the Brewers still believe they're in contention...they just aren't getting the offers they want for guys that aren't even free agents at the end of the year. Basically, they'll wait to the offseason where there's more time to act on an offer. I just think DM and company are being too unrealistic thinking they're going to get a top-flight proven MLB starter for Hart or Fielder - heck, any position player. Anyone taking on Fielder or Hart is a contender and none of them have an extra ace or two to throw our way. We have no idea what offers Melvin has been getting, but I just hope that he isn't being too picky. I don't know where the pitching help in 2011 is going to come from if not in a trade of some kind.
  8. Wasn't Hudson just considered the centerpiece in a potential Fielder deal? I'd look for a further-advanced version of our several potential back-end MLB starters.
  9. I won't be calling him Suppan 2.0 quite yet. ... While nobody thought he would be amazing, I don't think anybody thought he would be as bad as he has been. He is probably having the worst season of his career so far. He should be around a 4.25 era. Sounds kind of familiar.
  10. I now want this to be the worst win a pitcher has ever recorded. Come on, offense. 4 runs here, get Bushy through the 5th and hold it. I want epicness.
  11. Haha. Couple of dandy teams here. Love the Brewers grit to get back into it though.
  12. Capuano gets the win with Braddock, Loe, and Axford closing it out in the late innings. 4 months ago we'd all be laughing at that sentence.
  13. I like Gomez coming off the bench with Cain starting pretty much every day. But I'm a huge Cain fan, a little biased. He'll probably be eased in a bit like Lucroy. No reason to keep Edmonds on the roster, though I'm not as frustrated with his play as much as most people here seem to be.
  14. Isn't that AP article misinterpreting what Macha's point is? If that's based on his after-the-game quotes, he's just referring to the incident with the Braves, not the actual HBP count for the season.
  15. Not sure the Braves are the perfect match, though the Escobar/Gonzalez trade has me a little miffed...though I don't think Diaz is all that terrible LF is really the only place they could put a new impact bat. I know nothing of their farm system but I think they could use an actual 1B more than anything.
  16. I was listening on the radio at the time, but how is it that Sedar and Hernandez were the ones to go out and protect Prince and not Macha? From the radio call it sounded like he came out eventually, but seriously, he needs to be out there in that instance at least. That's just embarrassing. No, it really isn't. It's not like Prince was on the verge of charging. IMO, Hernandez was probably apologizing for getting the Braves all hot and bothered about the strike zone and they decided to take it out on Prince's head. I don't know what the manager is "supposed" to do there, because the umps took care of things pretty quickly.
  17. I would agree after reading this. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Yessss, someone caught that. Haha.
  18. I think Braddock would be the Brewers' best in a fist fight, throw him out there.
  19. I have no clue why Edmonds is running the bases right now. PINCH RUN. Two CFs on the bench that can fly and we need an extra hit or two to get Edmonds home. Stupid.
  20. So if Diaz is a notorious low-ball hitter why on earth would Narveson throw a single pitch below the belt? Where's the coaching staff?
  21. Things would be different had he ever developed that changeup. Can't blow guys away throwing 92.
  22. Well, if they have Cain in their long-term plans than they're not bringing him up "just to play". If playing him every day for the rest of this season makes him better for next year I say do it. I don't really know if Cain needs more time in the minors - he seems to have figured it out though, right? Pretty much every former baseball player I've ever heard from has said that there's basically no substitute for major league experience. Why keep trotting dead weight out there for another month and a half for service time's sake? Chances are they lock up Cain earlier or he becomes a valuable trade commodity like Weeks or Hart is now.
  23. No reason to not get a hit off of a guy throwing 99. (edit) Oh, Hart faced Pettitte...well, you get the point.
