  1. This has nothing to do with comparing players and only has to do with comparing the figure at which it would take to sign Frelick to an extension. This is what agents and teams go by. They go by the recent contracts that have been signed and gauge the player based on this information. So this is relevant to a Frelick extension as it would cost something close to what Gimenez signed for.
  2. I completely disagree that the Brewers are getting completely hosed on their TV rights. Maybe a few million more but definitely not hosed that would be the Mets and Astros who are getting hosed. With the numbers it is about $770 per viewer which sounds about right where the Brewers should be after taking the market into account.
  3. There was nothing left for Hiura to prove in the minors when the Brewers promoted him. There were signs that his K% were not good but there really isn't anything more in the minors that the Brewers could have done. Teams would have seen that it is not like they are completely blind and don't have scouts to you know do scouting things. This is just incorrect and you are trying to force your opinion as a fact. There was nothing the Brewers could have done to fix Hiura. It was all on Hiura to fix things in his swing he tried to do it last year and the adjustments he made didn't really make any kind of an improvement on his major issue which is him whiffing on balls in the strike zone. Also when Hiura was hitting good last year it was when his launch angle was higher. This is not saying much but I think even if Hiura changed his swing to be at a lower launch angle he would still be the same player he is now just with less power.
  4. Giménez and the Guardians agree on 7-year $106.5m extension with a club option for an 8th year. This is probably close to what it would take to get Frelick on an extension. The Brewers would have to do this either after his first year or just before his first year is up otherwise you are looking at something a lot higher. https://www.mlb.com/news/andres-gimenez-extension-with-guardians#:~:text=Second baseman Andrés Giménez is,option for an eighth year.
  5. Nearly all of the 1 and 2 seeds this year would be 4-6 seed teams in the past. There wasn’t a true #1 or #2 team this year. A rather weak tournament this year at the top and a rather strong 4-8 seeds this year. I wouldn’t expect this to be true next year again.
  6. Pretty sure I was told that Naquin would make the team because he was an OF.
  7. It was a FA contract. Prince was disappointed after the Braun contract as he never received an offer from the Brewers.
  8. Didn’t Prince do this when he was about to hit free agency? I believe he signed a 2-year contract to avoid the last two years of arbitration. The Prince situation was a little bit different as he was mad with the Brewers for not coming to him for a contract extension after giving one to Braun.
  9. Looks like they are targeting AA for Chourio but they haven’t decided yet. https://www.mlb.com/news/matt-arnold-on-jackson-chourio-brewers-prospects?partnerID=mlbapp-iOS_article-share
  10. BetMGM's odds to win the NFC North: Lions +135 Vikings +300 Bears +300 Packers +450
  11. The Bears were working on a trade with Houston that would have sent them the #2 pick plus a 1st in '24 and then that pick would have been traded to the Panthers for what they got for the #1 pick. That would have been interesting. The Bears backed out of the talks with Houston as the Texans were not all that committed to trading up to the #1 pick. That would have been a crazy haul for the #1 pick for the Bears if that would have gone down.
  12. Maybe at the deadline you trade Urias but right now no. I am not sure you would get full value for Urias at this point in time.
  13. Dollander has started out slowly but I don't think he will fall to the Brewers even with the slow start. I still think the Brewers go college pitcher this year as that is very strong this year. But then again it is the Brewers and while everyone is going college pitchers they go high school. Sproat is another arm to watch.
  14. That wouldn't even be the biggest hurdle to a trade with Urias. I am having a difficult time even finding a team that would be a match for Urias.
  15. My fear of Marquette came true. The offense for whatever reason juts has these games for stretches from time to time. I believe the Smart just chokes is overblown. I am not sure there is much Smart could have done here. The turnovers were the problem not Smart choking. I think this team was a bit overrated and were really a typical 5-8 seed team in past tourney’s. This is not a knock against the team but a knock against the entirety of the NCAA this year. There really wasn’t any true 1’s or 2’s in this tourney. The program is going in the right direction now.
  16. Unlikely. I think the A's will try and rebuild Laureano's value before they trade him so I don't see them trading him until the trade deadline. The A's and Angels make the most sense and I would expect a AAA reliever as the highest return value for Hiura you may get a good lottery ticket in the lower minors for him. Right now in spring training Hiura looks exactly like he has the past couple of years which is very useless as he K's way too much to be productive. I am not sure a team even claims him if the Brewers DFA him.
  17. If Marquette makes it to the elite 8 Tennessee is going to be a very difficult team for them.
  18. I don't believe the Jets specifically hired Hackett with the aim of bringing in Rodgers. That would just be stupid when there were zero indications that Rodgers would even be available when they hired Hackett. The Hackett thing is way overblown IMHO. Jackson is still an option for the Jets they will have to give up their 1st this year and next year plus other picks. This is probably why they are hesitant on giving up early draft picks for Rodgers. Why give up a 1st round pick when there is another option that can be there for longer? The longer this plays out the less likely the Jets actually make the trade for Rodgers and if they don't make the trade for Rodgers I can see them pivoting to Jackson instead and giving up two first's plus other picks for Jackson.
  19. As has been mentioned Los Sombreros is a good pick otherwise Culinary Dropout, Bootleggers Modern American Smokehouse or Cornish Pasty Co are also good choices.
  20. They could trade for Lamar Jackson. They have enough picks to do it. If this goes on longer that could become a possibility.
  21. If that were to happen the Brewers/Pirates from the NL would be contracted and A's/Royals would be contracted from the AL. More than likely it would be the Brewers and Royals being contracted as they are the two poorest teams in MLB. The history for the Pirates and them being on the east coast eliminates them from being contracted and the A's can be easily moved to Las Vegas, Nashville, Portland or Charlotte. The same with the Rays they could easily be moved to Charlotte, Las Vegas, Nashville or Portland. The Brewers are stuck where they are until their current stadium deal is done. So you can't move them and the same with the Royals and Pirates I believe. That leaves you with only two easily moved teams in the Rays and A's that will eliminate both from contraction. The Rockies are another possibility in the NL but I think the league would want to keep the Rockies because of their location it is a nice buffer to the west coast teams.
  22. MLB doesn't really have a spending problem the majority of the teams are near $100m in payroll. The teams at the bottom of the list though definitely have a spending problem. These nine teams are the problem especially the A's, Orioles, Pirates and Rays. The Rays look like they will be getting a new stadium soon so they should be able to spend more once that is in place. The Orioles should really be where the Brewers are in terms of team payroll and them being at $50m is just a joke. The A's are in a bad spot right now with no new stadium and uncertain on where they are going to move. The most likely destination is Las Vegas but I wouldn't rule out Nashville or Charlotte. Nashville makes the most sense for the A's too move to as that makes the most sense financially. If the A's move to Las Vegas they are basically in the same situation they are in now but with a new stadium. To fix this spending issue the minimum floor needs to be set at $100m and then climb $10-20m depending on league revenue every two years this would be for both the floor and ceiling. There are some simple solutions to this if you are below the league minimum cap you don't receive revenue sharing from the league. If a team is below the league minimum for two years (can be a combination of back to back years or in a span of 5-years) then you lose your 2nd round pick and 10% of their international bonus money. If a team is below the league minimum for three years then that team loses their 1st and 2nd round picks and 50% of their international bonus money. If a team is below the league minimum for four years then the team loses all of their draft picks and all of their international bonus money. If a team is below the league minimum for five years then that team is now a AAA affiliate and will have to reapply to become a MLB affiliated team in 10-years. If a team doesn't receive revenue sharing and they are below the minimum for one year in a 10-year span they will pay a fine of $100k per $100k under the minimum floor there is an escalator for the fine of $1m per $100k for 2-years, $10m per $100k for years 3-4 and year 5 is the team becomes a AAA affiliate and then can reapply to be a MLB team affiliate in 20-years or pay a fine of $100m. For teams that go over the cap for years 1-3 they forfeit their 1st round pick, 25% of their international bonus money and pay a fine of $1m per $100k over the cap. For years 4-5 over the cap teams forfeit their 1st and 2nd round picks, 100% of their international bonus money and pay a fine of $10m per $1m over the cap. All fines are paid to the teams that receive revenue sharing and are above the minimum salary floor by at least $10m. All revenue sharing that is received must be used for payroll if the funds are not used for payroll the team forfeits their revenue sharing for the next five years and will have to reapply for revenue sharing. All draft picks are redistributed to all teams with revenue sharing teams getting a higher percentage of chances to win (revenue sharing teams that spend more on payroll get a higher percentage). International bonus money is redistributed to teams that receive revenue sharing only with teams that have a higher payroll getting the majority of the international bonus money. There fixed the cap issue. Now just need to fix the revenue problem for the small market teams. I see someone mentioned having teams receive 100% of their ticket sales which would be a good idea I am just not sure that would be enough. It maybe enough if there were a lot of teams paying into the luxury cap each year. The easiest solution would be to just pool all of the leagues TV revenue and have it evenly distributed to all of the teams with each team receiving 100% of their home ticket sales. With that change that should even the playing field for the teams revenue streams.
  23. The NBA MVP is far more competitive than any other sport. In the NFL it is just whoever the best QB is that year. The NHL is also very competitive but the sport is just not popular enough to even discuss for most. The NBA is also far more popular with gen Z’s than any other sport. Sport shows are now starting to move on from gen x and millennials to gen z.
  24. Probably but at least I get to cheer for something as the team is still going to be just a bit better than bad next year.
  25. Bears off to a good start in FA so far with T.J. Edwards, Tremaine Edmunds, Nate Davis and DeMarcus Walker so far. Unknown on the contract for Walker but it is rumored to be a 3-year deal. The Bears still have about $50m in cap space left and will probably add more cap space once Whitehair is cut about $5m in cap savings. Probably one more signing for the Bears and that is probably Orlando Brown Jr.
