  1. If that deal is true then Reyes is a Marlin as no one is going to top that deal.
  2. No. Link to players who will cost first round picks.
  3. The Cubs must really hate Tyler Colvin,
  4. Looks like Reyes is still looking for a deal similar to what Crawford got last year. It is going to be a long time before Reyes signs with a team. The Marlins offer may actually be the best offer he is going to get. According to Morosi and Rosenthal the Brewers are not interested in Reyes with his current demands right now. Link
  5. Wait, you could see Yuni playing second???? Really?2B is not as demanding defensively as SS is so yeah Yuni could easily play 2B but it wouldn't be all that great defensively.
  6. The Knicks would need a 3rd team to get involved in a trade for Paul and even then I don't see that happening. I don't even see the Knicks being able to afford Paul, Amare, and Carmelo. I wouldn't mind the three team trade with the Bucks getting Bynum but the Bucks would have to get a 1st round pick in that deal. Preferably a 1st round pick for 2013 as I really like Rakeem Christmas and I believe he will come out after his sophomore year. He needs to get bulkier though if he is to be a NBA center but he has been listed as a power forward also. He would need to work on both his offensive and defensive skills to be a great player but he has all of the tools you would want in a big man to be a really special player.
  7. I could see a team that needs a 2B or a backup SS signing Betancourt. The Mets are one of those teams along with the Astros.
  8. MVP type year if you go by what Verlander did this year. The year Sheets had in 2004 was probably the most dominant year by a pitcher not to win a Cy Young award. I believe that in the last 11 years there has only been one pitcher who had a more dominant season than Sheets and that was Pedro Martinez in 2000 and Curt Schilling in 2002 had a season almost as good as Sheets did. As for 2004 it should have been in the NL either Sheets or Johnson as Clemens wasn't even the best pitcher on his team Oswalt was a little bit better than he was that year. Sheets2004ERA 2.70; FIP 2.65; K/9 10.03; BB/9 1.22 Verlander2011ERA 2.40; FIP 2.99; K/9 8.96; BB/9 2.04 Pedro Martinez2000ERA 1.74; FIP 2.17; K/9 11.78; BB/9 1.33 Curt Schilling2002ERA 3.23; FIP 2.40; K/9 10.97; BB/9 1.15 Randy Johnson 2004ERA 2.60; FIP 2.30; K/9 10.62; BB/9 1.61
  9. Well Paul becomes a free agent after this season I believe and there is no way the Bucks would be able to resign him at all.
  10. His numbers should increase once he gets out of the AL West which has 3 pitcher friendly ballparks and 1 hitter friendly ballpark. Smoaks production for the next 4 years > Marcums for 1 year.
  11. Some rather interesting trade rumors out there with the Celtics willing to trade Rondo for Paul and the Nets willing to trade Lopez and 2 1st round picks for Howard and Turkoglu. I wonder if the Bucks could do a mega deal and send both Bogut and Jennings to the Hornets in return for Rondo, Okafor, and a 1st round pick. Probably more of a fantasy there than a reality.
  12. If the Mariners sign Prince in FA what would it take to get Smoak from the Mariners? Jon Morosi twitter. I would prefer Smoak over Gamel in the long term as I believe Smoak has a higher ceiling potential wise than Gamel and is a better hitter and defensive 1B than Gamel. I am just not sure what the Mariners would want in return for Smoak. Maybe the Mariners would be looking at adding to their rotation someone like Marcum would be of interest to them. I wouldn't mind a trade of Marcum for Smoak straight up if that is all it would take to get Smoak from the Mariners but I am not sure that would get it done.
  13. Beckham can not play SS! He is a 2B or a 3B he does not have the range nor the defense to even think about playing him at SS. Why do people keep on suggesting 2B who are just about average there as a possible fit as a SS?
  14. If we could get Thornton and Ramirez, I'd be pretty happy. He'd be hitting two birds (8th inning and SS) with one stone. Not sure how much that would cost though. I'd be willing to eat more contract if we get to pay less in terms of prospects. Ramirez is one of the most consistant offensive SS out there. He can hit for some power, drive in runs, doesn't strikeout a ton, has posted a WAR over 4 the past 2 seasons and he rates really well in Range, UZR.Ramirez would require the Brewers trading at least one of Peralta or Thornburg along with some other pieces. If the White Sox are serious about cutting payroll and getting younger then trading both Alexi and Thornton in a trade with the Brewers would make some sense. The problem with Alexi is that he is well underpaid for a SS of his caliber which is very valuable even with the White Sox having an as good or better defensive SS in the minors with Escobar. I would love to get Alexi but I think the price tag to get him is more than what the Brewers can afford or even have in prospects. I think this would be close to getting a Thornton and Alexi trade to work would be something like this: Peralta, Schafer, Rogers and McGehee for Thornton and Alexi. With this move the White Sox clear a lot of payroll about $6.5m worth assuming McGehee gets somewhere around $3m. This also allows the White Sox to move Beckham back to 2B. I actually don't even think this would be enough but this is all that I would want to give up I believe the White Sox would ask for both Peralta and Thornburg along with someone like Schafer or Gindl. I don't see the White Sox eating payroll on a player so to even it out the Brewers would send McGehee over in the trade which would be a smaller hit in terms of taking on part of Thornton's contract. Just to put it in perspective Alexi Ramirez has a very team friendly contract.12:$5M, 13:$7M, 14:$9.5M, 15:$10M, 16:$10M club option ($1M buyout)
  15. They can offer less but that doesn't mean they are going to get that player then. You still have to give up value to get a player in a trade no matter when. If there are multiple teams looking to get one player that price is still going to go up with our without the compensation for that team.
  16. The only way I would want to get Thornton from the White Sox and the Brewers giving up a prospect is if the White Sox are paying nearly all of Thornton's contract or Alexei Ramirez or Eduardo Escobar are coming along in the trade. I would trade a legit prospect if the Brewers were to get both Ramirez and Thornton in the deal but no way would I trade anything of interest for Thornton maybe do a McGehee for Thornton swap but I think McGehee may have more value to a team like the Phillies or the Angels who both need a 3B. Maybe a trade of McGehee and Rivas for Thornton and Escobar. Escobar may not be ready offensively this coming season but he will be defensively not sure if the White Sox would do this but it does clear a lot of payroll for them.
  17. The only thing I could find for the smallest revenue is from Forbes from earlier in the year. In the rankings Milwaukee would be tied with Cincinnati but the top 15 teams that will be eliminated are: Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Angels, Cubs, White Sox, Phillies, Red Sox, Rangers, Braves, Nationals, Blue Jays, Astros, Giants and Athletics. I know the A's will still get revenue sharing until they get a new stadium or move to San Jose. So a process of elimination if you use the Forbes article would mean the Reds, Brewers, Orioles, Indians, Rays, Royals, Padres, Marlins, Diamondbacks, and Rockies would be the 10 lowest in revenue. Now we all know Milwaukee is the smallest market in all of baseball so we have at least one. I think the Rays would come in next followed by the Reds, Indians, Royals, Padres, Diamondbacks, Orioles, Rockies, and the Marlins. Not sure on the Marlins because they could actually be removed from both lists here with the next eligible team being the Tigers. http://www.forbes.com/lis...-valuations-11_land.html Revenue ($mil) Cincinnati Reds179 Baltimore Orioles175 Cleveland Indians168 Toronto Blue Jays168 Tampa Bay Rays166 Oakland Athletics161 Kansas City Royals160 Pittsburgh Pirates160 San Diego Padres159 Florida Marlins143
  18. I don't see any team trading for Wolf unless the Brewers take on part of his salary and if you are only getting a low end prospect then that trade is not worth it. Narveson is the pitcher that has the most value for the Brewers in a trade right now. If the Brewers are looking to trade one of their bottom of the rotation starters it would have to be Narveson as he is going to bring in more value for the Brewers and the players replacing him will be at league minimum and will be as good or better than Narveson. I also don't see any way the Brewers would be able to add both Rollins and Ramirez to the team. You would have to trade Wolf for a AAAA player if you are even lucky to get that without taking on some of Wolf's salary. You would also have to let both Hawkins and Saito go and rely on either injury prone bullpen guys at a smaller cost or use what you have in the minors and what is on the roster. Next you would have to trade McGehee as just letting him go would be a bad decision as you are getting nothing in return for him something is better than nothing and a team or two will gamble on McGehee for a low end prospect. The Phillies come to mind for a team that would be interested in McGehee I seem to keep on coming back to Rizzotti with the Phillies. Rizzotti would be a good back up plan if Gamel struggles. Loe in this scenario would not be offered arbitration so that is another bullpen piece you are going to have to replace. The bullpen is going to be bad in this scenario and overall I believe the team is worse off if the Brewers sign both Ramirez and Rollins not just this year but in the following years until both Ramirez and Rollins deals are done. I still prefer Reyes and then the 1b being Gonzalez and 1c Betancourt and Hairston.
  19. Yes, while sad what happened it really wouldn't be a deciding factor to me. I would look at where the school ranks in the graduate program first with the other schools I would be looking at.
  20. KRod won't bring back a 1st round pick only these players who are free agents will a team have to surrender a pick: Prince FielderDavid OrtizAlbert PujolsJose ReyesJimmy RollinsC.J. Wilson
  21. More like Gamel, Peralta, Thornburg, and Fiers.
  22. Well then you are not getting Alexei as Alexei is going to cost an arm and a leg prospect wise.
  23. Plus it is way to early in the offseason for a player like Barmes to be receiving offers. I doubt there was an official offer made by the Brewers to Barmes. This is more like a move that would be made after the winter meetings.
  24. I am not sure the Yankees will trade any of their young pitchers. They are going to need all of the pitching they can get as they have nothing in the majors right now other than Nova. I would rather target Banuelos than Bentances though but neither will be traded for Marcum maybe for a Greinke deal you could get one but not for Marcum the same with the Braves I don't see them trading their young pitching unless they are getting a young player who they can control for about the same amount of time as the pitchers they would be giving up.
  25. They do but it is normally for an established major league starting pitcher or a prospect for prospect swap (Garza for Young).
