  1. No he is not exactly the type of pitcher that should be locked up for 3-4 years. Marcum is going to be bad going forward as he doesn't have a good fastball and he has to rely on his off speed pitches to be successful along with locating. Marcum is not someone I want the Brewers to lock up at all in a long term deal unless it is a rather team friendly deal something like 3 years $27m.
  2. Fiers has a nice floor as a #5 his ceiling isn't all that much maybe a #4 pitcher if absolutely everything goes correctly.
  3. There hasn't been anyone to sell high on recently so what are you exactly trying to say here?
  4. Narveson would be easier to replace than Wolf and the Brewers should sell on Narveson this year. He won't be expensive and there is an in house replacement ready to go in Fiers.
  5. I would rather have Braun bat 4th as he is a less patient hitter than either Hart or Weeks. Ideally I would like to have Weeks bat 3rd and Braun bat 4th.
  6. UZR/150 2010, 2011:Yuni: -9.2, -7.4Reyes: -5.7, -3.6Barmes: 14.9, 10.8 This is very misleading. Barmes in 2010 only played 361 innings at SS that UZR/150 is inflated so you can throw that one out. Reyes has just come off injury the last two years if you want to see Reyes true talent at SS you would have to go back to 2006 and 2007 where he had a UZR/150 of 5.7 and 11.6. This is Barmes 2nd season playing as the primary SS so you have to look at his years playing mostly as a SS to use the UZR/150 which are in 2011 at 10.8 and in 2006 at 9.4. You should really look at everything before quoting UZR/150 especially when you have a small sample size for the first year in 2010 and you also need to look at if the player was coming off an injury or was playing hurt. Reyes will give the Brewers about 2-3 times as much worth than Barmes and Barmes is not going to be signed for two years at a minimum he is going to get 3 years at $5-6m annually I wouldn't be surprised if he got a 4-year deal around $25-28m. At that price and the length of the contract he is actually a worse signing than Reyes even though Reyes will cost more.
  7. What are you smoking because I want some of that. Reyes has great range at SS and comparing Reyes to Yuni is like comparing a Yugo to a Mercedes Benz yes they are both cars but that is where the comparisons end. When Reyes has been healthy he has great range. I would rather take Reyes as he brings in more value than Barmes even at a higher price tag. I just don't believe Barmes is going to hit at all and while his defense is nice I would prefer to have someone like Reyes. Also I believe that Barmes is going to cost to much compared to the production you will get from him.
  8. The NBA was seeing a small resurgence in interest last year. Now all of that is gone especially if the lockout/strike whatever you want to call it continues on any longer. I wouldn't be surprised if this season becomes completely lost there maybe enough time to do a 50 game season but that time window is starting to close really fast. I don't see the NBA being able to bounce back after this nightmare and I am kind of worried that the Bucks are going to be gone from Milwaukee because of this. The NBA is probably going to contract some teams if they can't get the problems with the players worked out. Milwaukee would be the first team to go as the city is not going to build a new arena for the Bucks and it is one of the smallest markets the NBA has.
  9. Doumit is going to be expensive for a bench bat. Unless the Brewers trade Gamel away I would rather not go after Doumit. After reading that Doumit turned down a deal from the Dodgers that was just less than $3m on a 1-year deal I believe Doumit is looking for a deal around 2-3 years with at least $5-8m annually. I am not sure I would want the Brewers to do that for a bench player.
  10. From http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/mlb/desire-to-win-now-kept-greinke-from-joining-nationals/2011/03/22/ABA2NPFB_story.html It is on page 2 near the bottom. Not really saying he will go there but there is interest on Greinke's side to go to the Nationals.
  11. Carroll at his age should only be counted on to be a part time player and not a every day player. His OBP is nice but I doubt he stays healthy for that to be a positive.
  12. I'll mark this as a win for the Brewers and a stupid move by the Twins. Offensively he maybe better than what they had last year but this would be like the Brewers having Counsell play SS on an everyday basis two years ago. Horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible move by the Twins. Carroll will probably won't even make it through half of the season without spending at least half of it on the DL with some kind of injury the Twins needed to get players who could stay healthy for the whole season not more DL bound players.
  13. Jamey Carrol is old and I would want no part of Carrol on the Brewers.
  14. Wren has stated they are increasing payroll this year not cutting payroll. The Braves are not trading Jurrjens because of payroll it is because they have younger players who are ready to jump in. The Braves are not going to trade Jurrjens for anything less than a Greinke like deal from the last off season. http://www.mlbdailydish.com/2011/11/8/2547817/braves-gm-frank-wren-discusses-offseason-plans http://siriusxmsports.posterous.com/frank-wren-braves-general-manager-joined-mlb-30649
  15. No. They would just move Berkman to 1B and then have an OF of Holliday, Jay, and Craig which would actually improve the teams overall defense as funny as that may sound but it is the truth.

  18. Greinke has also said in the media that he would be interested in playing with the Nationals and would entertain going there when he hits free agency. He said something like that at the beginning of the year it was about a month or two after being traded to the Brewers. So Greinke does have some interest in going to the Nationals and the Nationals are going to have the money to pay Greinke a lot more than what the Brewers are going to be able to afford. A contract of $15m a year for Greinke is in dreamland it is going to cost at least $18m a year at 5-7 years for the Brewers to resign Greinke. No way do I want the Brewers to even think about offering Greinke a contract for $18m+ a year to a pitcher for 5-7 years it is just not worth the risk that the Brewers would be taking on.
  19. Its laughable? Even if the Brewers could afford Greinke and another position player I still wouldn't want to see the Brewers lock up Greinke for a long term contract. While I love Greinke and I think he is a great pitcher I still do not want to see the Brewers put $15m+ into a starting in a long term contract. The risk just out weighs the reward here and it wouldn't be a smart move by the Brewers it could possibly be a franchise crippling deal for the Brewers.
  20. First the Brewers do not have the prospects to trade for Ramirez and second the Marlins are not going to trade Ramirez even if they sign Reyes as the Marlins will just move Ramirez to 3B.
  21. That still doesn't mean the Brewers should go after someone like that. I love Greinke but I don't believe the Brewers should lock him up for a long term contract especially at something like $15-20m a year. I agree that Greinke is the best pitcher the Brewers have to lock up long term that isn't named Gallardo but that doesn't mean the Brewers should give a long term deal to Greinke. Yes you would like to extend him but only if the price is right and I believe giving someone like Greinke or any other pitcher that type of money is just not a smart move for the Brewers to make. It is more safer to give someone like Reyes a deal in the $15-20m a year range than a pitcher. You are going to get more production out of someone like Reyes versus someone like Greinke.
  22. I prefer the Brewers to have positional players on long term deals than pitchers especially if it is going to be more than $15m a year. Greinke is going to get a 6 or 7 year deal at about the same money Reyes is going to get annually and I am not sure that is something the Brewers should do with a pitcher.
  23. I'm not exactly sure how reliable a "Mets person"'s knowledge of the Marlins' plans would or wouldn't be, but that's the first semi-specific contract offer rumor I think I've seen for Reyes so far this offseason. It's certainly seeming like at the very least it's going to take a while for teams to start entertaining committing real long-term offers to him.I agree I think Reyes is going to get at best a 5-year deal and whoever offers him that will get him.
  24. So Suppan signing for more and he was a flop and you would be worried about $30m? The Brewers have signed many players that were flops for a lot more than $30m. To me $30m is rather cheap compared to the risk now if you were talking about a buyout fee of $100m plus the $30m contract then yeah that would be over the risk and reward that the Brewers would be able to handle. Yes I know Cuban players haven't been all that they have been hyped about but the same can be said about any other prospect. Yes you are paying more for that player than you would for a drafted player but I have no problem with investing $30m into a player coming out of Cuba it is a rather good risk to take. This is not a lot of money to be giving a free agent with his skills. If he were an established MLB player you would be looking at $15-20m a year annually for him.
  25. Gamel still would have been in AAA even with LaRussa coaching. If McGehee would have been one of LaRussa's guys then he would have stayed there at 3B no matter what. I believe Cardinal fans were arguing in having Rasmus play more last year yet LaRussa kept on trotting out useless players over Rasmus. Gamel is more comparable to Rasmus than comparing him to Jay or Craig. I agree with Green though but I just don't see LaRussa playing Gamel anymore than he played in Milwaukee. On another note I really wish the Brewers would look into trading for Rizzotti from the Phillies. Maybe a McGehee and something else could get that deal done. Rizzotti is basically a clone of Gamel though he is a little taller but offensively they are the same I think Rizzotti might have a higher ceiling than Gamel but he may also have a lower floor than Gamel also. The only reason I see him having a lower floor is because he is Ryan Howard like at 1B defensively. If not Rizzotti I would see if Mayberry would be available in a McGehee for Mayberry swap. This would allow the Brewers to either trade Hart or use Mayberry as a soft RH platoon with Gamel at 1B. I still prefer Wily Mo Pena as a bench bat though or a platoon with Gamel.
