  1. I would because Villanueva is the Brewers best long man in the bullpen. I surely wouldn't want to see Suppan given that role. If Suppan is in the bullpen he would be the pitcher that would be put in if the Brewers are going extra innings or are getting shelled. I wouldn't want Suppan as a guy who would be bridging the gap from starter to the 6th or 7th inning guy. I would rather have Villanueva doing that. Villanueva has a projection of Season Team W L ERA G GS CG ShO SV BS IP TBF H R ER HR BB IBB HBP WP BK SO 2010 Bill James 6 6 4.09 60 10 0 110.0 106 16 39 3 95 Villanueva makes for a better 6th starter than anyone else in the bullpen right now. Narveson would be a good 6th starter also. I believe Narveson has some options left and I don't think Villanueva has any left. I still believe Villanueva has a lot of value for the Brewers left in him and he still has some value in a trade. I would rather have Villanueva being the long man in the bullpen than Suppan though. Suppan should be the white flag waving pitcher out of the bullpen.
  2. It looks as though the Mets have signed Everts. He was a guy I thought the Brewers should take a chance on http://twitter.com/BNightengale/status/6541284101 . Wow didn't expect 15 teams to be that interested in him I wonder if Melvin tried to sign him.
  3. How? Lyon will be getting 3 years averaging $5m per year while Hawkins only gets 2 years averaging 3.75 over those 2 years. Even with incentives I'm not sure Hawkins gets as much as Lyon will. If anything the Hawkins deal looks good compared to the Lyon deal.
  4. Davis and Bush are rather comparable and Bush will cost a lot less than Davis. Washburn will be worse than Bush basically Washburn is Suppan Lite. If the Brewers sign Washburn I wouldn't be surprised if Washburn put up numbers similar to what Looper and Suppan did last season. No way should the Brewers non tender Bush unless they are going to be getting a pitcher who is better than Bush. The only other pitcher out there better than Bush without that many question marks would be Lackey and Smoltz. Lackey is not going to be happening and Smoltz may happen but I'm not 100% confident in that though.
  5. Looks as though Texas is being really busy this off season and they are about to get Lowell. Thank God is all I have to say about that. Rosenthal's tweet.
  6. So the bullpen is going to look like this so far: BP Stetter Vargas Hawkins Coffey Hoffman Question marks for the bullpen include: Villanueva, Narveson, Axford, McClung (probably going to be non tendered), Braddock, and Capuano. With two spots open in the bullpen now I believe Villanueva will be given a spot in the bullpen with Narveson, Axford, Capuano, and Braddock all getting shots in spring training. I would go with Villanueva and Narveson as the two long guys in the bullpen.
  7. Actually new reports have come out that the Braves do not want to trade Kawakami now and it is now down to Lowe and Vazquez. Yes I know it is getting confusing with the Braves who they want to trade and who they don't want to trade. First it was Kawakami, Vazquez, or Lowe then it was Lowe and Kawakami and now it is Lowe and Vazquez.
  8. It looks as though the Tigers are looking for a third team to give the Dodgers a pitcher but want to dump Carlos Guillen. Maybe if the Dodgers or Tigers would offer some cash to the Brewers to pay for some of Guillen's contract next year the Brewers could swing a deal of Suppan to the Dodgers, Pierre to the Tigers, and Guillen to the Brewers. I'm not sure Guillen could play the OF he did play some OF for the Tigers last year and he wasn't all that good but he only played 42 games in the OF last year. Not sure if he really could play the OF in Milwaukee or if Guillen may just be a DH now because of his age. If the Dodgers or the Tigers would pay about $8m of Guillen's contract ($1m for this year and $7m for next year) I think it could work. Guillen would cost about $6m then next year and it would be the final year of his contract. Not really sure this would be a good deal for the Brewers but it would accomplish getting rid of Suppan. Other than that it doesn't really make any sense for the Brewers to do this deal. It doesn't really help the Brewers all that much if they would make this deal unless Hart would be traded for a pitcher and I would rather have Gamel playing in the OF than Guillen but Gamel could start the year at AAA playing the OF and when the Brewers felt he was ready they could replace Guillen with Gamel in the OF.
  9. I believe Melvin has talked with the Braves about Vazquez and the Braves were not interested in Hart. I don't see Melvin trading a good prospect for one year of Vazquez. Also the Braves are going to look to see if they can trade Lowe before they try and trade Vazquez. The Braves know they can get a good player or two for Vazquez it is just that they want to get rid of Lowe's contract. I don't think the Braves will be able to find a suitor for Lowe and will trade Vazquez in the end I just don't see the Brewers being the team getting Vazquez.
  10. Yeah just noticed that Gonzalez is a Type A. I still wouldn't sign Gonzalez unless he would do a very team friendly 1 year deal. Which is more than likely not going to happen so I doubt Gonzalez will really be considered.
  11. The Dbacks are getting ready to ship out Webb if the season doesn't go very well I assume. This is a rather big head scratcher though I don't understand why the Dbacks would put Scherzer in the deal and why they wanted Kennedy. Kennedy was injured last year and is rather comparable to Bush though I don't think Kennedy will be as good as Bush is but he is still a good #4 or #5 type pitcher and he should thrive out in the NL West. The Dbacks definitely got taken here they only got back an equal but more expensive player in E. Jackson and a #4 or #5 pitcher in Kennedy. I'm not sure what the Dbacks were thinking here. This might be one of the worst trades in a long time this was definitely not a good move for the Dbacks and if I were a fan of the Dbacks I would be outraged by this trade in no way does this deal make the Dbacks any better than last year or in the future. Maybe the Dbacks are looking to keep Jackson long term and have a rotation of Haren and Jackson at the top of the rotation for awhile. While that would be a good rotation I believe Scherzer would have done just as good as Jackson did and at a cheaper price. This just doesn't really make any sense. edit: inappropriate language -TC
  12. No any team that signs Gonzalez does not lose their 2nd round draft pick. Only type A free agents cost draft picks and this year the Brewers 1st round draft pick is protected. Type B's for the teams that offered arbitration to those players get a supplemental pick. No teams lose draft picks over Type B free agents.
  13. You mean Gamel couldn't out produce what Hart did last year if he was the one replacing Hart? Defensively Hart is overrated and he is an average at best RF. I just don't see how RF would be a fall off if you put Gamel there even if the Brewers go the route of Nady who wouldn't cost all that much he could outproduce what Hart did last year and give you a boost offensively from RF. There are other options out there in FA that will give you better offensive numbers than what Hart gave the Brewers last year. Ankiel may even give you better production than what Hart gave the Brewers last year. I'm sorry but I am not buying this.
  14. Wolf was the guy I wanted the Brewers to sign to a 2 or 3 year deal last year instead of Looper. If only the Brewers would have signed Wolf last year though Wolf really wasn't interested in playing anywhere other than on the West Coast last year though.
  15. Melvin was quoted earlier as saying he spoke with the Tigers before about Jackson. So it would be odd that Melvin wouldn't be making an offer now unless they discussed an offer before and Melvin thought it was to much for Jackson.
  16. Would be helpful if I put the prices for these wouldn't it? $10-15 (each) for all of them and the price would include the shipping costs if shipped anywhere.
  17. This sounds more like the Braves and Dodgers are going to be making a swap with a third team. I wouldn't be surprised if Lowe is reunited back with the Dodgers for Pierre. Though Pierre bats from the wrong side of the plate for the Braves and that maybe why a third team is needed to be involved. What other team needs a CF maybe the Cubs will be reunited with Pierre again not sure who would be going from the Cubs to the Braves though probably a minor prospect.
  18. Narveson was adequate during the final months of the season though. But he probably played way over his head though and I wouldn't expect Narveson to do this again over a whole season would be nice if he could because his numbers in September for the 4 games he started were nice. Narveson actually had a nice FIP last year also at 4.22 while Suppan had a 5.70 FIP. I don't think Narveson would be able to keep a FIP of 4.22 throughout a whole year but he shouldn't be as bad as Suppan was last year though. I believe Narveson was and is above replacement and actually did rather well during the last months of the year.

  20. Whoever is the last bullpen guy it will be between Narveson, Suppan, and Axford maybe even Capuano or Butler. Narveson could even slip in as the #5 starter in place of Suppan/Parra. The Brewers could start the year in 2010 with a rotation of Gallardo, FA, FA, Bush, Narveson (expensive rotation assuming the Brewers have about $15-20m to work with) or Gallardo, FA, Parra, Bush, Narveson/Suppan/Villanueva/Butler. What I do not see happening is the Brewers signing any relievers this year in FA (other than the Hoffman resigning that is) maybe Vargas will resign but I'm not as confident about that as I was earlier in the off season. I believe the Brewers will try to have two lefties in the bullpen that is if Parra has a strong showing in spring training if Parra doesn't I could see Narveson taking that #5 spot with Axford taking the final bullpen spot in spring training. It will all depend on how much the Brewers spend on FA pitching though and who they get.
  21. Both Hornung and Sayers are great guys. I got to talk some football with Sayers when the Bears had their summer training camp in Wisconsin. Both Hornung and Sayers will talk some football with you which is great. I totally forgot about this otherwise I would have went to this one and I agree it is sad that there weren't that many there. Both of those guys were really great football players kind of odd that no one really showed up for that.
  22. I wouldn't as bad as Suppan has been I believe Matthews has been worse.
  23. I really can not understand the reasoning why teams do not have a retractable roof when they build a new stadium. It solves the problem of rain outs and yet it is still an outdoor stadium.
  24. From Adam McCalvy's article from yesterday he said this in the article: So it looks as though the Brewers have not yet decided on if Braddock is going to be a reliever or a starter. I hope the Brewers make him a starter since I believe he has more value to the Brewers as a starter than as a reliever. It is interesting that the Brewers really haven't decided on Braddock being a starter or a reliever yet. Also interesting that Axford is going to get a chance at a spot in the bullpen.
