  1. That would be an interesting lineup. Lopez or Weeks in the 1 and 2 hole but that hurts Weeks and Lopez value with the stolen bases since you don't want to be making outs in front of your #3 and #4 hitters. Maybe have Weeks bat 5th behind Fielder with McGehee or Gamel batting 2nd. I wouldn't mind a lineup of:1. Lopez 2. Gamel/McGehee 3. Braun 4. Fielder 5. Weeks 6. Hart 7. Corporan/Rivera 8. Escobar 9. Pitcher The bottom of the lineup is a little shaky after Weeks but it shouldn't be any worse than this years bottom of the lineup. I would have to assume that the defense would take a hit without Cameron in CF though. With either Weeks or Lopez in CF I wouldn't be that confident in our OF defense. But the lineup would be fairly balanced especially if you have Gamel batting 2nd in front of Braun and Fielder. The Brewers could even trade Hart along with Hardy for some pitching and move McGehee into RF (not an ideal spot for McGehee) McGehee would then be batting where Hart would be batting. I also believe that Melvin saying he's not motivated to move Hardy probably means that Hardy will be traded this off season if the right trade comes along for him.
  2. How does it not accurately represent what a player brings to his team? Also GM's are using the WAR stat in a way. Some teams are even taking advantage of these advanced stats. The wins above replacement is a great stat and I believe GM's do use this kind of a stat to determine players to sign and who to get rid of. It may not be exactly the WAR stat but I am going to guess it is pretty darn close. A quick edit here if you are not ignoring defense then why would you want Dye in RF? It is rather obvious to me that Dye is just not a RF anymore and you would need a very good defensive CF to help out in the OF with Dye's decreased range. His defense is nearly going to wipe out any of his offensive production. This is not a player the Brewers should be looking at getting right now.
  3. So you want to sign another Looper with the money that you would be paying for Cameron? Now if you trade for a player you are going to have to give up talent plus the money which puts the team in a bigger hole. Hart loses all of his offensive value if you move him to CF in CF his defense would negate his offensive value. You may get a slight improvement in CF with Hart over Cameron but that improvement is so small it doesn't even matter.
  4. Like Podsednik and Brady Clark coming out of nowhere kind of crazier things happening?
  5. Is it fair to say that a player jumping from AA to the Majors is no bigger of a jump than a player going from AAA to the Majors?
  6. Not to mention at his age he is probably better as a DH. You would have to keep Cameron or someone as good defensively in CF if you are going to be using Dye in RF taking his age into account. Dye's UZR/150 is at -17.1 and he has been at -21 for the previous 3 years say what you like about the UZR/150 stat but Dye is not a everyday RF anymore he is a DH.
  7. Other than AAA having one more A than AA. On a serious note though is there any difference in talent between AA and AAA? I feel as though AAA is more of a place for depth on the major league team roster than it is about developing players. I also believe it is where teams put their troubled young players at (Manny Parra, Clay Buchholz, etc....). The talent in AAA feels more like fringe major league players than it does of a place where the top prospects are at. If the top prospects are in AAA that usually means they are about to be called up not there to work on anything really. Is this kind of thinking correct about AAA?
  8. The only thing that needs to be done to make baseball more competitive is a slotted draft system and a international draft just like the NBA. In the NBA the teams pay only a certain amount for an international player (to payoff the team they are playing for currently) the rest the player has to pay or negotiate out from their current contract. With an international draft players like Hideki Matsui and others can't just pick their teams where they want to go. I would also like to see teams being able to trade their draft picks or the rights of the players they have drafted to another team. Strasburg is the perfect example of this if the Nationals don't sign him they get another pick next year. Why wait until next year to get someone for your team? I bet if the Nationals could trade Strasburg they would get a haul and a half for him. Something along the lines of getting three really good prospects something like Kennedy and Hughes plus another prospect from the Yankees. That would help out the Nationals more so than what they would get for not signing Strasburg.
  9. No. There still would be revenue sharing in the NFL with or without a salary cap look at MLB it has revenue sharing. Yes the TV contracts are different but these are two different sports one plays one game a week the other plays multiple games per week. Maybe if MLB only played 1 series a week they could do a NFL type TV deal but other than that there is no way for something like that to happen. I understand the game very well and the NFL is not built through free agency. It is built through the draft since players that get older unlike in baseball have such a steep decline in ability it doesn't make sense to have a lot of veterans on your team. In the NFL you only need to lock up one key important spot and that is at QB unlike in baseball where you need multiple spots to fill with high quality players. Comparing the NFL with MLB is just lunacy. Woodson was coming off an injury and as stated by someone else was thought to be done. He really wasn't being pursued by many other teams other than the Packers.
  10. No the NFL is not true competitive balance it has its flaws. When was the last time the Packers signed a highly touted free agent? When was the last time the Lions signed a highly touted free agent? When was the last time the Bengals signed a highly touted free agent? When was the last time the Browns signed a highly touted free agent? Salary caps only help in keeping the bigger teams getting every single free agent there is around. A better idea than a salary cap would be a spending cap in the off season. Teams wouldn't be able to spend more than 75% of the lowest team payroll in the league or something like that. If MLB had a salary cap I doubt the Brewers would be able to keep both Fielder and Braun and once they hit free agency it would become even less likely that they would be able to resign them without hurting the team. I hate the salary cap there is no team loyalty in the NFL by the players since players switch teams or are dropped because they are to old or are being paid to much. Just take Marvin Harrison as an example the NFL is not a true competitive balance if anything it has been watered down way too much.
  11. You know Molina is going to be looking for something more than just 1 yr and somewhere between $6-8 wouldn't be overpaying he made $6m this year so I doubt he would accept anything lower than $6m. If it would be a 1 year deal you would definitely have to up the offer from $4m. I would still take Molina next year over a Corporan and Rivera catching duo.
  12. If the Giants don't resign Bengie Molina or no other team goes hard after Molina I would like to see the Brewers give Molina a 2 or 3 year contract. Molina is great defensively and isn't bad with the Bat. The only negative is that he will be 36 next season which maybe to much of a risk for the Brewers to take on with his age and the amount of money they would have to pay for him. If the Brewers could get Molina for 2 years at $8m per year and a team option for a third year that would fix the Brewers catching problems for the next 2 years at least. Molina could also mentor Salome or Lucroy in his final year of his contract. I don't think either Lucroy or Salome will be ready for next year to be the everyday starter and I doubt the Brewers would waste a year of Salome's or Lucroy's without them playing nearly everyday. I believe the Brewers would go with Corporan and Rivera or Kendall and Rivera for another year before they rush Salome or Lucroy up.
  13. Not many AB's but this is DiFelice's line against righties and lefties. Right / Left AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB HBP SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS vs. Left 44 0 12 4 0 3 8 4 0 12 0 0 .273 .327 .568 .895 vs. Right 110 0 21 5 0 2 15 7 1 27 0 0 .191 .246 .291 .537
  14. Teams you can eliminate: Nationals, Pirates, Cardinals, Cubs, Astros, Dodgers, Red Sox, Giants, Mets, Tigers, Indians, Angels, A's, Mariners, Rangers, Reds, Orioles, Padres, Rays, Braves, Diamondbacks, Twins and Marlins Maybe list: Brewers (you can probably add them to the nope list), Yankees, White Sox, and Royals. I think I got every team. Why the Royals? Because their GM is a moron and is probably a deal he would make. White Sox? Because they were looking for another OF to go along with Quentin and others and have Dye be their DH. Yankees? Well they are the Yankees and they didn't really make any moves during the trading deadline to acquire anyone they have been way to quiet since the offseason. Plus with Gardner, Cabrera, Swisher, and Damon as your main OF that is not a lot of depth and two of the players are AAAA type of players. Rios would become Damon's replacement then.
  15. I thought the waver wire deals went by record and then if two teams claimed the player the team that is in the current league would win the claim.
  16. Not really. Rios doesn't get start to get expensive until 2011 when he starts making $12m in '11 and 12 and then 12.5m in '13 and '14 with a $1m buyout in '15 or an option for $13.5m. He hasn't really produced what he has been paid so far this year but I believe he still has a lot of value left in him especially if he plays in the NL or in a smaller park. His contract isn't that bad until 2011 that is when it starts to get problematic.
  17. Let the waiver wire deal speculations begin. Apparently today Alex Rios of the Blue Jays was claimed off of waivers. The Blue Jays can either let the claiming team have him and take his $60m contract, remove him from waivers, or work out a trade with the team. Buster Olney on the Rios claim. I don't see anyone in the bottom half of the league taking on Rios other than the Mets. The Giants are a possibility along with the White Sox the White Sox would get to pick Rios before the Giants would though. I think it might be the Mets who get Rios. I wonder if the Royals will put Meche through waivers that could be a good pickup for the Brewers. Snyder could also be another player who maybe put through waivers this year a Rivera plus deal or the Brewers just claiming Snyder may net the Brewers Snyder from the Diamondbacks. Bedard may go through waivers but it doesn't look like he will be pitching again this year.
  18. The Rays are not going to trade Garza not even for Fielder.
  19. Was the Nationals trading for Soriano and moving him to the OF a video game scenario? There are a couple of more trades where a player switched positions. If the Angels acquired Hardy they would definitely switch him to 3B since Aybar is the better SS. If a team trades for a player they don't have to play the player where they were playing before and it really wouldn't matter to the Angels. If Hardy leaves over it they would still be getting Green and the two draft picks Hardy would bring back from leaving.
  20. I wish the Angels didn't have Aybar at SS and Kendrick at 2B but the Angels don't really have a 3B either they have Figgins right now and Wood though. Figgins will be a free agent after this year and the Angels have never really given Wood a chance at all I don't think they would give him any more of a chance next year either. Maybe a Hardy and Green for O'Sullivan/Reckling and ?????. I'm not that familiar with the Angels system outside of a couple of their pitchers and asking for one of their other top pitching prospects would probably be out of the question. Hardy could play 3B but he wouldn't like it and looking at the other 3B in free agency and the ones in the Angels system that I know of none of them would put up the numbers a normal 3B would put up. Hardy would be their best 3B and probably the best 3B on the market production wise. Green gives the Angels a future 3B if Hardy doesn't pan out and Hardy should be a Type A free agent in 2011 so the Angels will get two picks from that. I would want O'Sullivan since he is MLB ready but Reckling would be nice also but he isn't as ready as O'Sullivan is. A rotation of Gallardo, Parra, Bush, O'Sullivan, and Suppan would be a decent rotation nothing great but it would be better than what we have/had this year.
  21. Hart would be bad in CF and you only have to look at what Hall did in CF a couple years ago. It wasn't bad but the difference between Hall and Cameron in CF defensively is huge the same would be true between Cameron and Hart. Hart just does not get very good reads on fly balls and it would only be worse in CF. Hart's offense would be negated by his bad defense in CF. Unlike Cameron where his defense is picking up his offense. Weeks takes bad routes to grounders at times now imagine if he did that in CF. Instead of a single or at worst a double from misplaying a ground ball you just turned an out into a double or a triple and at worst it would be a inside the park home run. I really don't see Weeks being a good or adequate CF.
  22. That would hurt the whole OF not just CF. Actually I think that makes us a worse team with Hart starting in CF and Harang. Yes the Brewers could use Harang but I would rather have Cameron back for another year. I doubt Cameron will get $10m in free agency unless a team comes in and overpays for Cameron. I believe Cameron will get somewhere between $6-8m for next year which sounds about right for a player at his age and the position he will be playing and the way the economy will be.
  23. Some of Cameron's value comes from his defense which is extremely better than that of Hart's. It is nice to look at just the offensive picture for both players but when you add in the defense Cameron has a lot more value to the Brewers than Hart especially if you are not going to have a team with a really good pitching staff. If the Brewers are only able to get a marginally better pitcher for Hardy or Hart then getting rid of Cameron wouldn't be a wise decision. The Brewers are going to need all of the defense that they can get. If you have McGehee or Gamel in the OF you are going to want Cameron in CF since both are probably not going to be very comfortable out there right away. Having Cameron last year helped Braun out a lot in his defense in LF.
