1. http://www.speedtest.net/result/346319191.png ISP is Road Runner though.
2. Bogut was the 4th best Center in the NBA in RPG, 7th in DRPG, and 7th in Rebounds. I wouldn't say that Bogut isn't much better when you are comparing him to Charlie V, Redd, and Ridnour he is clearly better than all three of them in comparison to their defensive stats. RJ and Bogut are going to be the only two starters to be actually decent defenders compared to the rest.
3. Uggg it is snowing/raining right now. I really do hate winter in Wisconsin.
4. It is going to take Alexander at least 2 or 3 years before he becomes good. I believe Alexander could become a Tayshaun Prince type of a player. Not a great player but someone you would want as a role player on your team. As for Jefferson he just didn't want to leave New Jersey. He liked it there he doesn't really have anything against playing in Milwaukee he just really liked living and playing in New Jersey. I don't think Jefferson will be a problem this year for the Bucks he will play regardless what team he is playing for. For the Bucks as a whole team there are a lot of holes that need to be filled that were not filled during the off season. I still believe the Bucks traded the wrong player. They should have traded Redd instead of Williams but one of them needed to be traded that was for sure. I believe Redd would have given the Bucks more value and would have freed up cap space that the Bucks really need to do. Though I doubt any NBA free agents even have Milwaukee on their radar for a team to play for. Only free agents the Bucks seem to get are the Bobby Simmons type. The Bucks need to either get star quality players through trading for them or drafting players that will fit their system.
5. I'm glad I didn't watch the game then.
6. If Salome can't get the defense down at catcher would the Brewers move him to 1B? Also would he be able to play 1B? Would his offense even justify playing him at 1B?
7. DeJesus has played CF he would be a downgrade from Cameron defensively in CF and he is a popular player around here.
8. Bringing this back since Holliday is still available. While O'Dowd is open to different packages depending on the trading partner, he'd like to acquire a young pitcher who could become a No. 2-type starter as part of the package. This quote is from Jon Heyman from SI. I don't think the Brewers should trade for Holliday though especially since he would only be around for 1 year. I wouldn't send a No. 2-type starter plus for just one season of Holliday. Potential lineup of: 1. Weeks 2B 2. Hardy SS 3. Braun LF 4. Fielder 1B 5. Holliday RF 6. Hall/Branyan/Lamb 3B 7. Cameron CF 8. Kendall/Rivera C I would guess that Hart would have to be packaged in a deal to get Holliday along with Parra and Braddock/Periard/Salome/Lucroy. Would be more if Holliday would be available for more than one year. The offense would be nice but only having Gallardo, Bush, McClung, Suppan, and Villanueva as your starters. I'm not sure that would even get you the amount of wins the Brewers had in 2007 the pitching would be OK but you are limiting your bullpen by taking out McClung and Villanueva having just Gallardo, Parra, Bush, Suppan, and McClung/Villanueva is bad enough.
9. Sheets would have to take a pay cut if he goes to Houston. The last I heard about Houston going after free agents was that they would be signing there own free agents and if they don't do that they won't spend this winter. The Rangers feel confident in Padilla and Millwood why I don't know but they do. I don't see either of those two teams even offering Sheets a contract.
10. If Weeks gets moved to CF you can have a platoon of Hall/Durham at 2B and use Hall at 3B when Branyan needs a day off. Basically Hall becomes a super sub again. I'm guessing Kapler will be back with these moves also. Having Kapler platoon with Weeks and fill in for Braun and Hart when need be.
11. Yes there is an indication that he would come here. The Brewers would just have to give Peavy a full no trade clause and either increase the buyout option in 2013 or pickup the option in 2013.
12. Giving up Kennedy and Gardner which is what it would probably take is not giving up much value to get Cameron. Especially with Cameron only making $10 million in 2009. Kennedy is a future #4 pitcher he reminds me a lot like Dave Bush and Gardner is Gwynn Jr. I don't see the Yankees giving up on Cabrera but Kennedy is possible.
13. That is not probably true it is the truth. It is more competitively balanced than it has ever been that doesn't mean it is completely competitively balanced. It is far from that and the NFL and other sports are far from being 100% balanced which would be a pipe dream.
14. Maybe I should have said if Weeks would be closer to the mean between the optimistic and the mean I would be ecstatic. I would be happy if he was close to the numbers of the mean. I just feel the pessimistic numbers maybe more accurate depending on how serious the injury to Weeks is.
15. Over at the North County Times Dan Hayes interviewed Towers in the article it says that there were 14 teams that have inquired about Peavy.
16. Player Spotlight - Rickie Weeks Name AVG OBP SLG G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K SB CS OPS+ Optimistic (15%) .280 .400 .506 145 528 127 148 31 8 24 92 87 125 32 6 137 Mean .246 .359 .409 124 452 89 111 22 5 14 61 65 118 21 5 102 Pessimistic (15%) .216 .310 .331 112 408 52 88 17 3 8 42 45 114 14 4 69 If Weeks could do the mean I would be very happy with that. But the reasonable person in me says it will be more close to the pessimistic numbers than anything else.
17. Yankees, Mets, Phillies, and Blue Jays are also possibilities. I don't believe the Phillies are going to rely on Moyer for very long. Hamels, Sheets, Myers, Moyer, and Blanton would be a solid rotation for the Phillies next year. This would all depend on what the Phillies do with Burrel though. The Yankees would go after Sheets if they are not able to get Burnett or Sabathia.
18. You are right but if you want to compare apples to apples there is only one thing you can compare MLB and the NFL with and that is management.
19. Thanks for reminding me why I don't go and look at that blog anymore if I have to read another stupid comment about Cameron and his K's I'm going to have no hair left real soon here. Can the Brewers decline Cameron's option and offer him arbitration? I wonder if the Yankees would accept a trade of Cameron for Kennedy and Gardner. Then you would just have to platoon Gardner and Kapler in CF and you have another Dave Bush like pitcher in Kennedy. I'm not sure a Gardner and Kapler platoon would be any better than a Gwynn and Kapler platoon though.
20. I was arguing that good management will win you more games than going out and getting the best free agent available every year will do. Of course good management plus that will do that for you also but I don't see a single team in MLB, NFL, or NBA doing that. Most teams that go out to spend just to spend usually spend their money on players at the peak of their primes and thus are stuck with them when they start to decline. MLB, NFL, NBA, or even the NHL it doesn't matter what the sport is. Salary cap or no salary cap. Teams will win and lose with the management. In MLB it is your scouting department and your GM that will make your team good or great. In the NFL it is the scouting department. In the NBA well that is a crap shoot since you need an elite player to be competitive. The NHL you need your scouts again. MLB and the NFL are very similar in terms of what needs to be done to establish a winning team. Teams like the Brewers, Royals, Marlins, Rays, etc. need great management to win. While teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, etc. need only good management to win. Now lets look at the NFL it is nearly the same teams like the Packers, Bengals, Browns, etc. need great management to win. Teams like the Cowboys, Giants, and Patriots need only good management to win. Why? Because like the Yankees, Red Sox, and Cubs the Cowboys, Giants and Patriots are teams that free agents are willing to go there. Why? Because they offer a higher exposure in the media the more exposure for a free agent the more money they are able to make. This shouldn't be a reason why especially in the day and age that we live in. You can watch and even listen to your home team even if you are across the world from them when in the past you would have to wait for the newspaper to report what the team did. This excuse shouldn't be used anymore especially with the current technology.
21. There were only 9 players with an OBP of .350 or higher in MLB who played CF in 2008 none of them would be available without giving up premium prospects. Only one player in the top 9 players who had an OBP of .350 or higher would be available and that would be Gregor Blanco and I'm not sure Blanco's defense would make up for his offensive deficiencies.
22. Of the teams that you listed I can only find 4 that would be considered "small market" or "small revenue" teams. Do "small revenue" teams have as much of a chance in the NFL as the "big revenue" teams do? I'm going to have to say no on this. If you look at the list you provided 23 out of the 27 last super bowls have been won by "big revenue" teams. I don't consider that being parity or so more balanced than baseball is. I'm going to guess here but I believe the Cowboys, Giants, Patriots, and other high revenue teams probably spend more money on scouts, facilities, and other amenities for free agent players that lower revenue teams in the NFL can even dream about. The big time free agents still look at the big revenue teams for contracts more so than they look at the smaller revenue teams. It all boils down to good management over the amount of money you can spend on free agents. The similarity between the 90's Cowboys and the 90's Braves is the management not the amount of money they spent on their players. Having good management will always win you more games than just buying a team in free agency. Look how successful the Yankees have been since they have just been gobbling up free agents. Not a single championship since they have been spending more and more and more. When the Yankees were successful in the late 90's and early 2000 they were winning not because of their huge payroll but because of the talent they brought up through the minor league system. The management then was leaps and bounds better than what it is now. Good management will always win over just going out and getting the best free agent possible.
23. UFO's are what they are Unidentified Flying Objects. Why people associate UFO's with aliens I don't really get most UFO's are military planes and natural phenomenons. I believe that Hollywood and the media have portrayed UFO's as being something from another planet and has now become the perception that if you see a UFO it must be an alien space ship flying around and if anyone says they have seen a UFO they are a crazy lunatic that believes that aliens are abducting them and doing weird experiments to them. As for aliens or other beings from another planet. I sure hope there are other beings in the galaxy I don't want to believe that we are the only intelligent living things in the universe if so that is one big waste of space. I don't think it is practical for other beings to be visiting here though. Maybe they are sending probes to planets like we are and are looking at the worlds and trying to find other forms of life. If this is so I would bet it would take billions of years depending on where in the solar system they were at to even communicate with us let alone even visit here.
24. Over at Fangraphs they have named Mike Cameron as last year's Free Agent bargain. Link to article.
25. A lot of you are overreacting to a part that says that he might just stop there. It doesn't mean Melvin will or won't stop at just those three names. A lot of overreaction to such a small part of the article.
