  1. I get the logic of why people worry about the bullpen after using Johnny Wholestaff in game 1. But: 1) It worked. Again. Its worth using your best guys when you win. I have to chuckle when I hear the pundits insinuate the Brewers’ strategy may be flawed because now guys are tired. Isn’t it more important that they won the game? Would you rather be the Dodgers down 0-1 right now? 2). This Brewers bullpen is just a whole other animal. Hader is down for today, clearly, and yes that’s big but he doesn’t pitch back-to-back days ever. The rest of the guys can still go, including a number of really good relievers, and with a guaranteed off day tomorrow. Burnes can go 2 or 3. Soria. Knebel. Jeffress. And even Guerra or Peralta can give some quality innings. Would we worry about any of these guy pitching two straight days in July? Then why worry so much now? Plus, god willing it won’t happen, but we may put up a stinker today. Then our long guys eat innings and our full bullpen in available for game 3, having at least earned us one win. Counsell is a master right now.
  2. But so was the Justin Turner strike 3 call against Soria. We came out ahead in that deal.
  3. Was he in the bullpen Monday? And celebrating with the team? Answer yes to that, and I’ll stop worrying. But it appears he wasn’t present, and was instead tweeting about his unavailability mid-game. I know he’s fine. I’m still worried.

  5. Don’t think I’ve seen any speculation in the thread, much less wild speculation. Just fans concerned about a very important player at a very important time in the season.
  6. You are correct, I definitely agree. I don’t mean to pry. As much as anything, just trying to say I’m concerned. If anything I suppose I’m responding to those saying it’s nothing slightly worrisome here
  7. This is not a witch hunt. I love the Brewers and I love JJ. So yeah, I wonder what’s up when something is clearly off, especially at such a pivotal time. No I don’t expect answers, but yeah I’m concerned. Hoping for nothing but the absolute best.
  8. So if , say, Ryan Braun wasn’t in the lineup, or even the dugout yesterday for “undisclosed reasons,” we should all just mind our own business and not worry about it? Clearly different, but our all-star closer has been conspicuously absent from the bullpen twice this week. Not trying to make a mountain out of what I hope is a molehill. But it’s a legitimate question that no one is actually directly answering.
  9. This. This is not normal, something is up. It doesn’t mean it’s a big deal, I certainly hope it’s not. But this is not just getting a day of rest or gamesmanship. I still haven’t heard anyone confirm he was actually in the bullpen or celebrating with the team. If he was, then I’ll be happy and stop asking questions. But instead I’ve heard only vague indirect responses like “he was in uniform” and “he’s fine.” And when asked why JJ wasn’t up in the 9th, if it’s for rest or nagging injury the answer would not be “undisclosed reasons.” It would be “we were saving him for tomorrow” or “his neck is still sore. IMO we are not being told something. And yes that is ok, I don’t think I’m entitled to know everything. But as a Brewers fan and a HUGE JJ fan, I can’t help but be concerned.
  10. Was he in the bullpen today? It’s all just not quite right. Not even being at the ballpark because of a stiff neck in a huge game this week? Not being available today because of “Undisclosed reasons”? Seems easy to explain if there were an easy explanation, and the explanations provided can’t help but confuse me as a fan. I am not trying to conjecture, I certainly don’t know anything other than this is all just...abnormal. If he’s not available because you’re saving him for a potential Wild Card game, you would just say that. Hope the best for JJ, perhaps my favorite Brewer and want badly to see him close out big series this month.
  11. I’m on board with going with Chacin. There is more at stake in this game - advancing past wild card game AND home field throughout the NL playoffs. Also we are hot and the Cubs have to feel the pressure of us relentlessly gaining on them for a month. Don’t play it safe, run it into the line and then punt. Throw for a first down and win the game right now. Let’s goooooooo!
  12. Yeah this feels like Counsell is waiting for Maddon’s lineup before he picks his starter. I think we’re getting a lefty “opener” either way, but especially if Maddon goes Murphy/Zobrist/Rizzo. My guess is Jennings since he did it just a few days ago.
  13. LET’S GOOOOOOOO!!!
  14. LET’S GOOOOOOOO!!!
  15. Come on Cards!!!!
  16. Not as badly as Gyorko
  17. If the Cubs score one more run this game is over. Cardinals looking for a reason to just pack it in and take tomorrow off.
  18. Also, it may be a case of “careful what you wish for” But I want the Cubs in the NLDS. Either way. We are better than them.
  19. As fans we often talk too much about team effort, how much they care, etc. it always looks bad when teams lose. I actually think the Cardinals have legitimately given up. Hopefully they luck into a run or two and decide this game is worth playing again.
  20. Legitimate question - would you rather be playing the Tigers or Cardinals right now? The Tigers are at least trying
  21. Seriously, put in the September call ups. Cards are pathetic
  22. Full disclosure here...I am not a Major League Baseball player. But man, I cannot for the life of me understand how players like Schoop don’t understand that swinging at everything is bad. Like you never see them take a couple games to not swing at the first pitch and see how that goes. Especially in today’s stat driven world, they have to be told constantly that their OBP is a problem, right? Have stats that show how often they swing at balls out of the zone? Nope, I’m going down swinging next time too!
  23. I also loved this from Wainwright from before yesterday’s game... In fairness, he didn’t specify which one they were planning on. Edit: wish I knew how to shrink that pic...sorry
