  1. I'm into sport talk radio. Honestly, I think most of it is crap, mainly because a lot of the topics get repetitive and beaten like a dead horse, and a lot of topics aren't really worth talking about, but you have to fill the time somehow. But hey - I'm a sports nut and like some sports talk anyway, gives me a bit of sports news, information, and gets me excited for the games. I typically listen to The Big Show on 105.7 (formerly 1250 WSSP) on my way home - it's just ok, none of the personalities really do it for me (but see the above). But I do have to say one thing really annoys me. Two of the guys on the show (half the show) are from Chicago! And self-proclaimed Bears and (I think) Cubs fans! They are fine at their job - professional, decent conversationalists. It's not personal, but I'm sorry, I don't want to hear a Chicago fan's opinion on Wisconsin sports. It's not fair to them, but sports are illogical and territorial, and when it comes to sports I don't like Chicago, their teams, and their fans. And if they ever talk about a WI vs IL matchup, their opinion is immediately invalidated. And while they do a pretty job avoiding it - I never want to hear anything about Chicago sports unless they are the next game on the Packers/Brewers/Bucks/Badgers schedule. I don't care about Derrick Rose, Theo Epstein, Jay Cutler, or anyone else in Chicago, but occasionally those topics come up. And when they do, I change the station immediately. Because I'm a crazy illogical sports fan...which I would imagine is their main demographic. But hey, other than that, that show is...adequate.
  2. Answer seems pretty simple to me. Fire Doug, hire reillymcshane.
  3. Let's say Mark fires Doug, and hands the team over to you. What do you do this offseason? I don't think I'm in the minority when I say it's time to rebuild. This team caught lightning in a bottle for one month this season, but besides that it's been mediocre at best, just as it has been for 3 years now. On top of that, the future doesn't look much brighter. So if it's me, I'm done with trying to add 2nd tier free agents, and it's time (for once) to start selling high on players rather than wait until their value wanes and sell low. Few, if any, of the current Brewers will be a part of the next team that is a legitimate championship contender. So IMO any value they have should be aimed towards acquiring players that will be (aka prospects). The only relative untouchables are players that are young, cheap, and still have potential to improve (Gennett, Davis, Segura, Peralta, Fiers, Nelson) and the faces of the franchise (Lucroy, Braun - who we can hope will return more to form next season). I'm shopping Gomez big time this offseason to start to restock the farm system, as well as Lohse, Garza, and Broxton. I would probably exercise my option on Ramirez and Yo, primarily because they should have some value come the 2015 deadline, at which time they should be dealt for more prospects. That, plus the tickets they help sell since the team won't be gutted will make their salaries easier to stomach. But again, that's only if they are traded if/when they should be. Also, they are not blocking any notable prospects, which is important. No more stopgaps at 1B, let Clark take his shot there, and same goes for any other position that opens up from trades, injuries, lack of production, or otherwise. I have a feeling the coming years are going to be tough to stomach, so the question is do we try to plug holes and put out a product much like the past few years and hope the prospects we have/draft develop? Or do we actively build for the future, possibly at the detriment of the major league product over the next few years? I vote for the latter.
  4. Since July 1st he has a line of .208/.307/.400/.707. I'd classify that as dismal, though still better than what the Brewers are getting. I sincerely hope the club stops trying to put lipstick on a pig and plug holes with aging, mediocre players. 2011 is over, it's time to rebuild.
  5. Pirates win. I wish there was an emoticon that better demonstrates the depth of my fanhood despair. First the collapse, now they start playing halfway decent but can't make up any ground anyway. As a Brewer fan accustomed to disappointment, it's hard to get hopes up for this weekend.
  6. Runners on the corners for BoSox with none out in the 9th in Pitt. Down 3-2. Edit: aaaand a ground ball hits the man at 3rd, who is called out. I should've expected no less.
  7. 2.5 games back with 10 to play...not exactly position A.
  8. How about 2004? I don't think many had delusions of the Brewers contending that year, but the collapse was impressive nonetheless. After July 1st, the Brewers were 41-34, 7 games over .500 and 3.5 games behind the NL best Cardinals. They finished out the year a staggering 26-60 to finish 67-94, 27 games under .500 and 37.5 games behind the Cardinals.
  9. Roenicke should consider Fiers as throwing a no hitter. Until he no longer had a chance at 21, he stays in the game. Obviously this will not happen though.
  10. Anyone know the Brewerfan.net equivalent message board for Giants fans? We are going to SF for the road series at the end of August and would like to pick their brains a bit.
  11. I know very little about Butler other than what I just looked up on baseball-reference, but he seems like a great buy-low candidate. He's had a crap year, but 4 of the past 5 years had an OPS over .800 (.787 last year). Since June 1st he's got a line of .283/.335/.417/.752, though has fallen off a bit again in July. If he get's hot again he also has a club option for 2015, though it's pricey at 12.5M with just a 1M buyout if he continues to sputter. Anyone have anything more informed to say about him than I do?
  12. Going into the deadline I figured starting pitching was the least of our needs, but I must admit the idea of this makes me salivate. Especially heading into potential playoff matchups with the likes of Kershaw, Wainright, or the deep staffs of the Giants and Nationals, adding Price would make me a lot more confident about a deep playoff run. Obviously what they ask for in return is always of the utmost importance, but I'm on board. Make it happen Mark and Doug.
  13. Just too bad it didn't happen to the Yankees, Red Sox, or Dodgers. Then someone outside of Milwaukee might actually care too.
  14. May not have made a difference, but what a terrible defensive play at the end there by Khris Davis. Double pump, than lollipop a throw over the cutoff man's head. A good play there and there's at least a play at the plate.
  15. The number one problem with replay in baseball is the same as it is everywhere else - time. It seemed like MLB was getting it right, but already it's falling apart. If a play is reviewed, you get a certain, short amount of time to review it, say 60 seconds. From the time the challenge starts. No exceptions. EVER. And if it's not clear after that, it's too close to call, and the call stands. The replays cut off, the phone line to New York shuts off, no more discussions may be had. If you don't have an answer yet, then the play stands. Move on. The number two issue is the whole "indisputable" thing, which is paramount to the idea of replay. The point should be to reverse clear mistakes, not scrutinize every pixel on every frame. But every sport, and already in MLB, that is being very loosely applied. A very small minority of calls on the field are incorrect, and an even smaller minority are still incorrect after replay. So stop taking the time and effort to correct calls that just aren't correctable without 1000x zoom and 1000x HD slow-mo. It's not worth the time and effort, and it's not the point in the first place. If anyone actually adhered to the "rules" of replay they claim to have in place, it would actually be worthwhile.
  16. Ok ESPN, do you really have to throw a Lite Brite collage over home plate while there's a game going on?
  17. My thoughts exactly. Though I wonder, for all we make about the Brewers struggling against rookies/high ERA types, are there actually stats to support that they actually do so? And do they really tend to hit ace-types well?
  18. Irving Falu has a career .699 OPS. In the minors. Why is he on the team again?
  19. I also hate the infield in when a double play gets you out of the inning
