  1. I agree with this, he looked very athletic and most on this forum have been following him for 2-3 starts and are making definitive or very strong opinions based on a sample size that would be disqualified for Greinke or Yo at any part of the season because they are proven. This guy is just as proven in the league that he has pitched at. I wish we could look at the other games he pitched were he posted a sub 1 era and all of the other outlandish stats that he posted throughout the season. He was 6-0 in the CWS coming into tonight, I think that proves he can pitch up to the pressure. ____________________________________ http://static.yuku.com/common/bypass/images/off_line.gifTheCrew07Well he's out of the game already here in the 5th, I thought he threw a couple of better curves today, I still like his change, he showed some nice athleticism again, but his control was pretty bad after 2nd. edit. His FB was 90-91 after the 2nd. He was hitting 93 in the first. _____________________________________________________________________- I also re-watched 2 batters in the 4th inning and he hit 92 three times and 93 once on only two batters. Sometimes perception is reality. I am not saying anything definitive about how he is going to progress and obviously he didn't pitch his best game today. But he was still hitting 93 in the 4th today so it is only fair to have the truth represented. Also Florida was the highest rated offense in the nation. They are bound to score runs. His location definitely was off, I am not making excuses, jut looking for a fair report.
  2. Well this makes a lot more sense, http://www.mlbtraderumors...kings-update.html, but at the same time it still ties into my post, if Gomez was a type B which he is borderline it would help out the team greatly.
  3. I don't know how it works but this guy has been pretty reliable for a few years now. My guess is that free agents are based on a certain percentage of players that will be free agents each year and they maxed out on type A's. Maybe this is something that people could look into further. Even if he was a type B people would still be happy getting anything for Gomez.
  4. Just wanted to point out that one of the most hated position players on this team would be a type A free agent at this moment http://www.mlbtraderumors...nkings-update.html Actually all 4 outfielders are type A, for people to be this negative about a guy that is a type A is surprising. I realize Gomez is in the last spot but even a type B in years past people would be ecstatic. Many people on here call RR a small ball manager while also stating that he is too aggressive on the base paths. That is an oxymoron you cannot have it both ways. He is not a station to station manager therefore it is not small ball. During parts of this season RR was basically polishing a turd w/ all of the injuries, Gomez shouldn't be batting second so they use the skills that he has to advance the runners and help the team. If you have a hitter out of place due to injuries at least make the most out of it. We don't even know if the bunts were called or the players took it upon themselves. On top of that we don't know if the signals were bunt for a hit or sac bunt. Again all 4 outfielders are currently type A's, so some of this bickering is a little over exaggerated.
  5. I don't know how to embed a video but I didn't realize Braun was "cool".
  6. Braun considers himself to have a strong business acumen, this is why they approached the team IMO. At this point their is only one team he could negotiate with for several years. At this point with the team friendly deal he signed he should be looking to recoup that money on the back end. He just turned possibly the 2nd most team friendly deal in the big leagues behind Longoria in the I believe the 2nd longest behind Tulo. On top of that he deferred payments into the years past his playing days which guarantee him some walking around money plus the interest gained on deferred payments while he transitions into his 2nd career, He has set himself up quite well for the future.
  7. If there's a bowling alley in the house, it would be pretty hard to just up and leave. If you remember there was a link to his house in CA being for sale a few years ago, the basketball court he owned next to the house was going for 12 million (just for the court). Also I agree that this would be the perfect time for him to sell the team if he so chose. As stated his investment has doubled in value that is all you can ask for in any investment. For people saying that he is too invested in the community he did all of that in order to increase the perception, recognition, get his son's band in Summerfest, and increase the value of the team. He is a money manager he takes things, makes them more valuable, and sells them. I do not know if that is what is going on here but if I lived in CA, I would rather own a company in CA than in WI. I like him as the owner and hope this is not the case but it is possible.
  8. I would guess that the jigsaw puzzle sleeves had a tie-in to an autism event at the stadium or promotion.
  9. I could be wrong but I thought this became an issue in MLB after the Nick Adenhart accident and the league was thinking of banning beer in all clubhouses. As Roenicke was a coach in that organization and his strong Christian beliefs it would make sense for it to be a team rule.
  10. From what I read he took a running leap from his kitchen area into his jacuzzi at his condo. Unfortunately he didn't open the door first.
  11. I also said that they should sign him only on a team friendly deal which would be a cost savings. The fact that he has kids and would be guaranteed X amount of dollars definitely is a factor for a 28 year old player who might never get another shot at a contract is an issue. By cost certainty I was inferring that the Brewers would know what price they had allocated to most of the position players so the could have a guaranteed reference point to attempt to lock up players. If Casey has another good year he gets more expensive, therefore a team friendly deal knowing you have your 3rd baseman locked up at say 6 MM in 2014 makes it easier to work on extensions than having an 3rd baseman locked up at anywhere from 5-8.8 MM or whatever. I think they are locking up the other mid-range players at a fair price now so they know where they stand fiscally for the other big contracts they want to sign. Plus I stated that if they buy out other years after he is eligible for free agency it would be a team option. Buy him out to a fair team friendly contract to guarantee another players cost and give the team the option to keep him longer if he excels.
  12. I don't get this. The best part about not locking up a player like Casey is if he falters they could eat the contract... As others have said, a multi-year deal just doesn't make sense unless it is at a significant discount from his projected arbitration numbers. The impetus for the long-term deal/buying out arby years is generally shared risk between team and player. The team risks the player getting hurt or declining. The player risks missing out on even more money if his health and good play continues. I don't see that here. I understand that, my thinking is that Casey's highest paid year wouldn't reach what Hall was getting and Gamel would still be be a league min type guy. Gamel could slide over if a first baseman is ready or play first if a third baseman is ready. I am not saying that I think that they should lock him up long term but if they do it should be before he gets expensive so they have a good gauge of what their costs will be for years to come in order to know how much cash is free for the pitchers. I do not think they should buy out even 1 year of arbitration unless it is a team option. I just believe everything they have been doing the past year is to avoid going to arbitration and having a reasonable deal locked in. Casey is a good solid player who hasn't gotten payed w/ 2-3 kids. I think that he will take a discount and that was what I was basing this on. If you pay him full value their is no point. Also it would be easier to trade him with a locked up contract than a team going through arbitration as long as it isn't an overpay.
  13. I agree about cost certainty 100%. I feel as though management is trying to figure out exactly how much they are spending at each position over the course of this next 3-4 year run. Once they have all of these figures locked up they will know how much and how to structure the contract offers for possible extensions on the new pitchers during the 2nd half of the season if everything works out. They are trying to get players locked up on the cheap a year before they become expensive, and it is too early to lock up pitchers before they ever make a pitch for the team. The best part about locking up a player like Casey is if he falters they could eat the contract and bring up a league minimum guy in a 2-3 years. This isn't a direct correlation to the Hall contract because Casey isn't getting 4/24.
  14. I have a buddy who covers a mid-tier ACC football team for Rivals. I called him to tell him about the opening in Milwaukee as he is a WI guy. He told me that it would basically be a 40% paycut to work for JS over a website.
  15. Value is a relative term in this conversation, as Greinke was quoted after his first extension that he already had all of the money he would ever need or want to spend. This is one guy who from what I have read wants to be in a situation he is comfortable in. Money is not the only factor, he just turned down the long extension from the Nationals because he didn't think they were a winner. Give him a couple of months in the NL and in Milwaukee and this is the kind of guy that could be locked up.
  16. I didn't see the front burner piece, I was talking about the Hot Stove opening. It was great to see that someone actually covered the trade as it got glossed over everywhere else. Dan Patrick this morning talked about it for about 30 seconds before it turned into a Jason Werth topic. I was only trying to point out that during the 5 minute segment they were wrong on a few key points, but at least they were talking about it and obviously thought it made the team much better going forward.
  17. The MLB Network breakdown of the Brewers revamped team was pretty weak as well. They said that Escobar fell out of favor as a ss that is why he was moved to the outfield, and that the Brewers still need to figure out their bullpen other than Axford and Parra.
  18. I might have missed it, but I don't think anybody pointed out that if the Brewers are in contention next year it will be a lot easier to trade for a position player than a starting pitcher. If ss or cf is a glaring hole after the first 6 weeks of the season or so we can find a replacement level player available somewhere a lot easier than finding a #3 or better.
  19. I have known Andrew Wagner for about 10 years, if he put this out there he heard it from a legit source. Here's to D WAGZ getting the story straight though I would hate to give up that many players that we rooted for all the way through the system the rotation would be stacked.
  20. I bet Ken Macha is feeling like Doug just kicked him in the giblets. Macha worked with one of the bottom 3-4 rotations for 2 years he gets canned then boom top 3-4.
  21. Zack might have 99 problems but.... http://www.emilykuchar.com/index2.php?v=v1
  22. I was not meaning to trade an offensive player for Braun but trying to gauge his actual trade value among players with similar contracts. You must have missed that part, but if you are only willing to trade Braun for Felix or Price in all of MLB than you are probably being a bit of a homer.
  23. It just seems that more often than not, when people don't have a rebuttal they try to belittle others to give their viewpoint more clout by negativity. I still have not seen one reason why they couldn't trade Braun other that a fan revolt and he is the face of the franchise. Those are 2 big points but it only took C.C. one week to become the face of the franchise. I feel as though Sheets felt slighted after spending years here and in swoops C.C. and steals his thunder. I realize Sheets was hurt but no one talks about Braun's walkoff outside of Milwaukee it is all about C.C. and how he led the team to the playoffs. No one shows up in September to watch Braun play, they show up to watch a winning team. Here is a list of players I feel have more value than Braun as of today: 1. Longoria 2. Hanley 3. Votto 4. Zimmerman 5. Heyward 6. Posey 7. Pedroia 8. Utley 9. Tulo Braun, Cano, David Wright, Upton, Hamilton,Carlos Gonzalez These are not in order of where I would rate them but ahead of Braun. So Braun would be in the 8-12 range. Here are some pitchers, I am probably leaving a few off as I did this quick: 1. Josh Johnson 2. Strasburg 3. Lester 4. Jimenez 5. Felix 6. Weaver 7. Price 8.Kershaw 9. Buccholz 10. Bumgarner 11. Tommy Hanson 12. Wainwright 13.Greinke If you could trade Braun for almost any of those pitchers straight up you would take it in a second. This leaves off all of the big contracts out there. You can fight a spot here or there but the main point is Braun is a a very tradable chip and we would be lucky to get a pitcher of this caliber back. I am not stating that Braun is injury prone as much as stating that he has been underperforming his anticipated level of production while still maintaining an extremely nice output. He has not and might not ever be able to outperform that level he put up as a rookie. I realize that is asking a lot, but if people are going to call him a HOF'er.
  24. He hasn't had "chronic" injuries. He had the intercostal strain in 2008 that seemed to carry over a bit into 2009, but has been fine for quite some time now. He got hit by a pitch on the elbow this season that seemed to affect him for a while, but we also know that he appeared to recover from that later in the season and looked great. A "chronic" injury is one that keeps cropping up year after year.Uh oh... has he assumed Brittle Ben's mantle -- Brittle Braun?! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif You can act like an ass if you want to, but that doesn't change the fact the Braun has had a minor injury that lingered longer than it should have for the last 3 seasons. If this was Weeks with his wrist injuries it would be a major concern even though it was different wrists. I am just trying to point out issues that others are neglecting. It is a fact that he has had a major part of each the last 3 seasons impacted by an injury. They are not all his fault, but Hardy broke an ankle, Weeks tore 2 tendon sheeths, that weren't his fault.
  25. I don't need you to tell me where Braun finished in hits the last two seasons, and I never stated Gamel would fill his shoes. I asked where he is honestly rated on an offensive scale. Based on contract and position I would rate Braun 8-10 and that could be generous. You could have him rated higher that is why I asked. Taking into account all of the money coming off the books and the fact a larger contract wouldn't hinder the team in the near future it could be lower. Again if I could trade Braun for a player of similar value who is a pitcher I would probably do it. Any P in the same ranking would be an elite pitcher. Also it is not like Braun is throwing his money into all of these business ventures across WI and he is creating jobs, investors are paying him to use him name and promote their restaurants for them. It's not like he is going to have these guys open up a chain of Ryan Braun restaurants in Kansas City. I am not saying I think he should be traded but people pick out one word in a post and rip away instead of thinking of the entire thought process.
