  1. Bernie's is at Clark and Waveland. People that come in there are fans not those that just want to be seen. And you won't be harassed.
  2. Don't go to Murphy's. Go to Bernie's.
  3. How about letting a real Cub fan chime in here? At the time of the play, I was furious. But probably because of Alou's reaction more than anything else. I settled down when I realized that Bartman did nothing more than what I would have done. Why weren't the palyers in the bullpen yelling for the fans to back off. Real Cub fans do NOT blame Bartman. Real Cub fans blame Alex Gonzalez who booted an easy double play ground ball 1 batter later. The guy made 10 errors all season but had to make one at a critical juncture in game 6. Real Cub fans blame Dusty Baker for not settling down Mark Prior who had been cruising along until then. Real Cub fans blame the entire team for not being able to hold a 2 run lead in game 7. Bartman remains an issue because other teams' fans, media, and not-real Cub fans won't drop it.
  4. Cute avatar Mike but I like mine better even though yours is more appropriate today.
  5. When Ramirez first came to the Cubs (2nd half of 2003) the Cubs first basemen were Erik Karros, Randall Simon (of sausage race infamy), and Hee Seop Choi. They didn't save any of Ramirez errant throws. Lee was on Florida then. The following year Lee came aboard and Ramirez also improved at picking up the ball and throwing it with help from no-legged Ron Santo. Dunston - his first baseman was Mark Grace - He couldn't get to as many high throws as Lee can but was great at picking them out of the dirt.
  6. Google has a new high speed internet hook up. http://www.google.com/tisp/ and a new travel adventure http://www.google.com/virgle/index.html
  7. I think that Gagne just wanted to get the win. just kidding Don't over analyze the situation Both Starters were excellent The set -up guys were excellent Both closers sucked Your bats were a little better than ours You won a strange, close game - end of story Has anybody ever seen a guy from each team picked off second - in the same inning no less? Congrats on the win -
  8. For those of you that picked the 1st, 2nd or 3rd inning, you still have a chance, if today gets washed out.
  9. Just talked to my good buddy who is currently sitting in Bernie's at Clark and Waveland. Just like that camera shows, it is misting constantly but they WILL try to get the game in. If they can't, they will try again tomorrow. It's all about the gate. Double headers cost the team a full stadium of attendance as well as all concessions, parking etc. The Cubs currently have a maximum of 30 night games during regular season. They usually schedule 1 or 2 short so that they can get a late season ESPN sunday night or allow for a day night DH in case of a rain out.
  10. Thanx to those of you that said you like having me around. We do have our own site on ezboard/yuku (though it is first and foremost a Bears site) When I first came over here, I explained that I like going to other teams' sites just to read and give opposing viewpoints. (in a civil manner) Thanx also for all the explanations about the roof - I wasn't watching the roof instead of the game, I was watching it close before the game on a gorgeous night and did not know why. And yes it was very muggy inside. I understand the need for roofs - I just don't like them. Though I must admit being inside the Silverdome when it was snowing and inside the Astrodome when the outside temp was in the upper 90's was a little more comfortable that outdoors would have been. As far as explaining arriving late to Wrigley - 2 reasons - 1 - some people that come just aren't fans but come for the appearance/experience. Personally, I also wish they would stay away. 2 - Traffic and parking - it sucks. Reasons for leaving early - again 2 - 1 - When beer sales cease 7th (night games) or 8th (day games) inning head across the street. 2 - During a blow-out, head across the street, the beer is cheaper. The only time I have left early was an opening day in 2004 - it was a blow out loss and wind chill was in the teens.
  11. Most of you picked the Brewers to win the NL Central (That's not surprising - you should) I poster (with some kind of a hair up his butt picked the Cubs for last) That's cool too Of course I pick the Cubs to win and the Brewers for the WC as I think we will both beat up on the rest of the division the other 2 divisions are more balanced and knock each other off. But at this point it's no longer relevent Game On - May the best team win
  12. As far as Marquis ERA of 6.02 in 2006 - If you check the records 2 times that season he pitched the day after the team gave up double digit runs. (I think 19 and 20) No he was not very good in those 2 starts either but "The Genius" had used up his bullpen the previous day and on both occassions he had to "take 1 for the team". He should have been yanked long before giving up the 12 he gave up each time. I guess that's why TooLiveBrew refers to ERA as a team stat. As far as wins, I was just pointing out that 15 wins out of the 3/4 hole is a pretty good number when comparing. And wins is what voters start with when deciding who should get a Cy Young.
  13. What am I missing about Bush? I've seen a lot of guys in this thread say they'll take Bush over Marquis/Lieber. Forget Leiber for a moment and let's just look at Marquis. I know general sentiment in Chicago is he sucks get rid of him. But he threw 190+ innings with a not so great 4.65 ERA in 2007 which BTW happened to be 3.68 at the All Star break. A 12-9 record in which he had 3 games blown by the bullpen. So that would have been 15-9. And you guys want Bush's 180+ innings and his 5.12 ERA?
  14. Don't get me started. Never mind - you just did. Just a couple of years ago we went up to Miller for a Cubs game - same weekend as Summerfest. Spent a day at the fest in beautiful sunshine - it was hot. Cooled off in the early evening - a beeee-you-tiful night for baseball. We watched in astonishment as the roof was closed while we sat there pre game. Why? There were a couple of clouds in the sky. What's the point of a retractable roof if it's not open on a georgeous night? (We heard from some Brewer fans that there had been problems with the opening and closing of the roof so if there was ANY chance of even the slightest rain the roof would be closed since it might not get closed fast enough.) Drivel
  15. Too bad we're not opening today - it's cold but at least it's sunny. For all of the junk I've seen about the Cubs on this site since I've been here, this one is spot on. NL should open in LA SD SF Ariz, Hou, Atl, Fla, Mil with only Atl and SF being possible cold spots. And yeah I think they should dump the "traditional opener" in Cinci as long as there's 8 places to play. Do I relish the thought of always opening on the road? NO but it's the right thing to do.
  16. C'mon. at least spell it right. sCrUBS
  17. Guarantee you it's not Arizona.
  18. A look at the link to Top Ten catchers shows Geovany Soto at the top of the list ahead of both Russell Martin and Joe Mauer. But Martin and Mauer are on the list of 50 and Soto isn't? Say What? I think that gives you an idea of the subjectivity and ridiculousness of the list. This guy can't even be consistent between his own articles.
  19. Eastern Seaboard Programming Network almost says it all Joe Morgan is a baseball analyst - that wraps it up.
  20. Johnson will platoon in center with Pie. Murton has been a solid if not spectacular player since we've had him.For those of you that were stating in another thread that we really haven't done anything other than sign Fukudome and will have Soto for a full season, the guys that they replaced are why we are better. Jacque Jones (while he dodged trade rumors and taunts by Cubs fans both years he was here) was as big a detriment in our outfield as Braun was at 3rd base for you. Coming from Minnesota, he never learned how to throw on real grass. Soto is replacing Barrett/Bowen/Hill/Kendall. That in and of itself is an improvement - having 1 guy all season. Barrett never could throw (except a punch) Bowen and Hill weren't around long enough and I don't think Kendall threw anybody out the 3 months he was here. Our defense was good last year but now it's better.
  21. The only point I'm making is that he's NOT done. Is he the right guy to be closer? Only time will tell.
  22. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif I love it!
  23. And I certainly hope you should get an up close and personal view next week.
  24. Muscular back spasms are nothing more than twitches - can be somewhat debilitating but anybody (especially an athlete) can bounce back to original form in 2 days. Let's see - Saturday: 1 IP 3 batters 2 K's - Sunday: 1 IP 3 batters 2 K's Yeah I agree - He's done. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif And the pot shot was really at Dusty - big deal - he deserves all the pot shots anybody can throw
  25. That's cool. I certainly am not so naive as to believe that another team's forum wouldn't be taking a pot shot at the situation.
