  1. hopefully Sheets goes longer than Peavy. Maybe Yost should tell all the hitters "If no one is on base and your name isn't Prince or Corey, don't try to hit, just take pitches till 2 strikes and then start to foul off anything near the zone" to get Peavy up in the pitch count and maybe get a walk or two while you're at it.
  2. Wow... Sheets is bringing the heat in the 1st inning. Reminds me of his 2nd game of the year when he got his first CG shutout of the year against the Giants, when he was 94-95 mph in the 1st and stayed sharp the whole game (instead of taking a few innings to warm up).

  6. Uhhhhh.... If we had a 3rd baseman like Ryan Zimmerman, the Cubs might be looking up at the Brewers as the division leader right now.
  7. I was talking to a friend about this very thing yesterday while exiting MP. We were both curious if they would call up some of their AA players. I know players are normally taken from AAA, but we thought that Gamel and Escobar would be good options to bring up to give them more experience while helping the brewers win a pennant race. A guy walking near us thought we were crazy for actually thinking about ruining such young talent by bringing them up into the pressure of a big league pennant race, then insulted us by saying "well thats what separates the baseball coaches like me, and regular fans like you" like he's had to face the same situation coaching little league or whatever he does.
  8. I would rather have Benny's A game for 10 starts than his B game for a rented mule riding 11 starts. Extra recuperation time; it's not like Ben pitched 250 innings last year like CC. I am curious as to what everyone's spreadsheet looks like, becuase I am obsessed with mine. After running it again, I am convinced more than ever that McClung should get a spot start 24-Aug versus Pittsburgh. reason 1: sets up CC and Ben to go in St. Louis on 7 days rest each reason 2: after each of them starts 3 more times on regular 4 days rest, they would then be scheduled to go in the first 2 games of the Wrigley series - on 5 days rest each reason 3: (after that series, CC goes on regular 4 @ CIN, while Ben goes on 5 v PIT) - this sets up CC in game #160 and Ben in game #162 v Cubs on regular rest. The only downside - in exchange for pacing their arms - is that they each get 10 starts each instead of 11. I am more than okay with this. I absolutely agree with this. CC and Ben getting one less start still has value since they'll get must needed end of the season rest, which could produce better outing in the other 10 starts. In fact if they do what you suggest, they shoudl be able to get CC and Sheets playing at least 5 of their remaining 10 games against contender (Cards, Mets, Phillies, and Cubs twice). I'd like to see the end of the season play out like this @Chicago - Sabathia @Chicago - Sheets @Chicago - Parra @ Cincinatti - Bush @ Cincinatti - Suppan @ Cincinatti - Sabathia Off Day Pittsburgh - Sheets Pittsburgh - Parra Pittsburgh - Bush Chicago - Sabathia Chicago - Suppan Chicago - Sheets Then game 1 of the playoffs on wednesday can be started by Sabathia on 4 days rest. If game 2 falls on Thursday, you can go Parra on 7 days rest, and then game 3 on saturday would be Sheets on 5 days rest. If game 2 falls on Friday, you can go Sheets on 4 days rest, and game 3 on sunday would be Parra on 10 days rest.
  9. I think Uecker had it right when he said that if the Brewer wanted the cub's fans to stay away from Miller Park, the team needed to find a way to make Miller Park the Cub's own personal house of horrors similar to what PNC is for the Brewers.
  10. If I had to make my prediction for the season, I'd still say the cubs win the division and the Brewers win the wildcard. Which means that if both the brewers and cubs each win their first playoff series, they would play in the NLCS. It'll be tough to come back 5 games in August and September, so it might be a bit easier to beat them in a 7-game series in october, which would truly be the last laugh.
  11. When this picture was taken, the cubs fans had a 50-year drought going... little did they know, that they would still be waiting in another 50-years. I feel better now.
  12. Once someone has the tickets in their hands, they can do anything they want with them. So the Brewers can't do squat if anyone sells their tickets. The brewers could however institute a policy to make it harder to buy tickets to marquee games. They could say that single game tickets for all marquee games are not for sale, and instead say that if you buy a 4-pack, you can get 1 marquee game and 3 regular games. They should still have no problem selling out for the marquee games. However you do reduce the number of cubs fans since fewer would make the effort to buy the tickets in March, thereby forcing more to buy the tickets secondhand of which the supply is hopefully shorter.
  13. I agree its too early to talk about the playoffs, but they only 1/2 game behind the current wildcard leader. I was just thinking more about the crowd demographics if that were to happen.
  14. Quick question. If the brewers were to face the cubs in the playoffs, would the cubs fans have a bit more trouble getting tickets than they do for the regular season games? I think most of the playoff tickets would be taken by season ticket holders including 40, 20 & 10-pack ticket holders and all would be sold (from the brewers) before the opponent is know, but the question is how many of those season ticket holders will sell their tickets, and how many of those season ticket holders are actually ticket brokers that always sell their tickets. Does anyone have a good feel for how this would play out? I think I would be devastated if the cubs fans were able to buy up 15-20% of the playoff tickets, that being enough to get their stupid chants and cheers going. (clarified thread title --1992)
  15. At this point I'm sort of hoping the Scrubs tack on 4 or 5 more in the 9th to light a fire under the brewers before they go on the road
  16. I like calling the cubs "Da Baby Bearz"
  17. I witnessed some off this from section 128. Saw the guy throw the ball back on the field and consequently kicked out of the game. Otherwise heard quite a bit of commotion going on in the LF bleachers. Where I was sitting, surrounded by a good number of cubs fans, who were for the most part fairly civil. Of course there was the usual razzing going both ways, but I saw brewers and cubs fans shaking hands after the game nearby. The guy who sat next to me (who bought his tickets back in march from the brewers) was more than polite as we chatted it up before the game, and even offered a good-bye handshake as he left in the top of the ninth saying "We have a long drive tonight so we're leaving early, but I'll tell you now, the Cub's BP has this one in the bag". But with that said, way too many cubs fans are very arrogant, from the stupid song they obnoxtiously sing when they win, to the "W" flags. As I was leaving the stadium, at the top of the aisle, there's a half dozen cubs fans sarcastically thanking everyone who walks up the stairs for coming to "Wrigley North". Then as I'm walking through the parking lot (wearing a Prince Fielder jersey) someone yells "Hey Fielder, not looking so hot lately" to which I responded "You might want to wait til after this series to say that" (pared back long quote --1992)
  18. No way Branyan gets the start tonight... he's been struggling lately, and Hall...um... hasn't. And besides, Hall will go with the Lefty on the mound.
  19. 20. I just read about this today, and that's pretty low. I know I'm a newer member, but I've read brewerfan.net for a while, and one of the things that drew me to signing up was the generocity I see from guys like Pedro.
  21. Monday night. Section 128, row 5 seats 7 & 8. I'll be wearing my white Prince Fielder Jersey.
  22. You're right... Hardy has the best arm of any non-pitcher on the team, so that long throw from 3B should be cake for JJ. And who says that a specific position on the field has to hit for power more than another position. Is there some strategic defensive advantage to having your third baseman hitting 30 HR's? The answer is no, especially since the brewers have other sources for power. JJ has been able to knock the ball out, but I still don't expect it from him... he doesn't really have the raw power that Braun, Fielder & Gamel have... JJ pretty much needs a fastball to get the ball out of the park (though I think his dinger yesterday was on a breaking ball).
  23. If I had to predict next season's opening day roster, I'd say: Gwynn CF Hardy SS Braun LF Fielder 1B Hart RF Hall 3B Weeks 2B Kendall C Pitcher Maybe they bring up Escobar and/or Gamel mid-season. But the 2010 lineup is the harder one to predict, but I'd guess: Escobar SS Hardy 2B Gamel RF Braun LF Fielder 1B Hart CF Hall 3B Salome C maybe Pitcher Problem is I don't know where that leaves Rickie Weeks... maybe he's traded.... maybe he's on the bench.... maybe Fielder is traded (he's destined to be a DH anyway) and Gamel is at 1st with Gwynn in the OF..... maybe Hall is traded or on the bench and JJ moves to 3rd. I think it comes down to what you want to value more... If you want to build a strong defensive team, Fielder and Weeks are the odd men out, and you have an infield (left to right) of Hall, Escobar, Hardy, and Gamel, with Braun, Gwynn & Hart in the OF. If you value offense more, then Gwynn is out, but then its a much tougher decision because you now have to decide if Weeks has the potential that everyone has been saying he has, but hasn't shown.
  24. Yes we do... Bill Hall has handled the platoon very professionally. The way he requested a trade was professional, the way he kept his mouth shut after that was professional.
  25. Pedro... you should make a bid to buy the brewers.... then we could have crazy promotions like "if the brewers blow a save at home, free admission to a future game for all fans in attendance" or "if the brewers come from behind to win in extra innings, free beer and brats for everyone" Oh, and count me in.... I believe its Bush vs Harden.
