  1. Maybe couples think they’re actually helping people if there are a lot of out of town guests? A lot of those people could save on airfare if they were already planning on traveling for Christmas. Just trying to give them the benefit of the doubt ...
  2. Yeah, what’s that about?
  3. I have nothing against Pat Fitzgerald, but I would be disappointed if Mark Murphy’s first instinct is to simply go with the last guy he hired.
  4. I share your optimism, but that doesn’t make me feel any better about the current roster. Sure, the inverse draft order has taken its toll and there’s always an element of luck involved, but the current talent void is mainly self-inflicted.
  5. In defense of Bulaga, that guy is tough. I thought he was done last year after 2 ACL’s and 8 years of wear and tear as a starting NFL lineman. He’s the only first round pick since since Raji / Matthews in 2009 to live up to his draft status (with the possible exception of Kenny Clark). That alone probably says a lot about the Packers’ current roster situation. It’s not his fault the Packers have failed to find a better RT to protect Rodgers. If this is the end of the line for him, then I wish him happy trails and hope to see him back in town someday for his Packer HOF induction.
  6. Purely answering the question, there was a comment in an article back in early October that mentioned that the Packers were "expecting" Madison to be a part of their team next year. There is no reason to revisit this until mini camp, which is almost five months away. Lots of things can happen in five months. Totally agree and in hindsight, I’m embarrassed by the lack of empathy I displayed for Cole today.
  7. Was he? Didn’t he have to deal with the Favre un-retirement disaster like immediately? And is missing the playoffs two consecutive years after making it 8 straight really a dumpster fire? I’ve been patient. I really have (and I apologize for taking out some of my frustration on Cole Madison in that previous thread). I defended TT/MM long after the 2014 NFC Championship Game. I preached patience when others were calling for heads to roll. But here we are - 0 for 8 after XLV. Kudos to Murphy for handling the Favre situation well and keeping the Packers in good financial shape, but it’s time, Man. It really is.
  8. I hear some teams are interested in trading for John Harbough. Boy, I hope that’s not the Packers. I was really hoping the Ravens would cut him loose, but there’s no way I’d trade the Saints’ pick for him.
  9. Philbin needed to go 4-0 to earn the job. Thank you for your service, Joe - especially in 2010. It’s time to be new.
  10. I have no idea why they went with Tolzien over Flynn in 2015.
  11. I live in Green Bay. There were free tickets floating around my office this week and I’m glad I didn’t bite. Drinks were cheaper in my living room. I feel bad for people who drew this game in the Brown County lottery and paid full price.
  12. I’m still willing to give him a free pass in year 1. But I hear ya. I’m underwhelmed.
  13. That Scott punt was the highlight of the game so far.
  14. Fire Mark Murphy. He should not be immune from criticism. He was handed an enviable situation when Bob Harlan retired and turned it into a dumpster fire. But at least we have a sledding hill, right? TT was literally losing his mind and Murphy did nothing for 3 years. But he has hired plenty of cross country and field hockey coaches, so we should trust him with this next hire, right?
  15. Hello - longtime TT / MM apologist here. They need this butt-kicking to remind management that wholesale change is needed. Mark Murphy should be nervous. I would not be upset if the Board wanted a change.
  16. Yeah, makes you wonder if 4 teams is too many. At least Alabama vs Clemson IV should be pretty good. Also, while everyone else was playing a conference championship game, Notre essentially received a bye to the CFP. I hate that.
  17. I was in the Scouts as a kid. Had a blast. I was very fortunate to go through the program with some friends and a great group of parent volunteers. Now my son is nearing Cub Scout age and I see the national office is pushing a STEM program over an outdoor theme. I’m sure my son will really enjoy School Part II on Monday nights instead of planning camping trips (sarcasm).
  18. If there were a college bowl game at Lambeau Field this weekend, I would definitely pay to go and take my son. That being said, I think organizers would have a real tough time getting fan bases to travel to Green Bay in December.
  19. I’m not a huge movie guy, but I’m really looking forward to Vice. I could do without the political slant, but I enjoyed The Big Short immensely and am hoping this one has a similar feel (same director). Christian Bale and Steve Carrel also star in both.
  20. 4 16-Team Super Conferences. There’s your 8-Team Playoff.
  21. I don’t get the crowd who is calling for fewer bowl games. I know two 7-5 teams isn’t a marquee matchup, but wasn’t that game fun (for Badger fans)? Outcome excluded, isn’t it good for student athletes to visit the NYSE, play at Yankee Stadium, and get $500 in SWAG? For fans, isn’t marginal college football on the Thursday after Christmas better than Dr. Phil reruns?
  22. JB, I'm surprised at your agism... Age isn't the issue. Being creative, a good coach, and working with millenials is the key. But by your own criteria, isn’t a younger coach more likely to be creative and better with Millenials? I’m not dismissing older candidates (Belichick and Saban are both in their late 60s), but I’d prefer someone in the 40-60 age range. That’s when people are in their decision-making prime.
  23. I think Gen Y was actually a placeholder for that generation until demographers settled on Millennials.
  24. I believe Generation Y is another term for Millennials.
  25. I’ve noticed interest in personal finance has increased in recent years (which is great). That might be partly due to the proliferation of information on the internet and also a resolve to avoid pitfalls from the most recent financial crisis. However, I suspect the 10-year bull market has also driven interest significantly. People love a winning team, but their allegiance is currently being tested.
