  1. Damarious Randall was a healthy scratch today. I was glad they recouped some value for him, but part of me thought he’d find succes at safety and in a new system. That seems to be the way of former Packer DBs recently - but nope, this guy’s just a bust.
  2. I guess Scott has a baby due? Ah, OK. Would have been nice if the Packers announced the move with proper context. I’m glad they have the extra roster spot so they don’t have to release someone to make room for the extra punter. Hope it doesn’t mess with the kicking game.
  3. Just a reminder, under the new organizational structure, BG doesn’t have the ability to fire MM. Only Mark Murphy can make that call. And while I think the Packers have underachieved by winning only one Super Bowl with Aaron Rodgers, let’s not lose sight of the fact that it’s incredibly difficult to win a championship in a 32-team league. Rodgers is one Ben Roethlisberger game-winning drive away from being ringless.
  4. I see Vince Biegel is now on the Saints’ active roster. I hope that move doesn’t come back to bite the Packers. I’m all for cutting your losses, but given his rookie year injury, he barely got a fair shake.
  5. I love both moves. They don’t have the horses to win a title this year, but 10 draft picks and $30 million in salary cap space will go a long way.
  6. I hope they trade HHCD for a late 2019 draft pick. They could let him walk and hope for a higher 2020 compensatory selection, but that also means they couldn’t sign a major free agent (because the two would offset). I wouldn’t be upset if they traded other players either (what’s a Cobb rental worth to someone?). I don’t think this team has the horses to go all the way in 2018, but I also don’t think they’re that far away from contending again.
  7. If it’s any consolation, ESPN had the Packers’ win probability pegged at 33% after the Rams’ last score. I know we all thought Rodgers was going to orchestrate a game winning drive (myself included), but in reality, that would have been a tall order.
  8. Oh, so practical reasons? For some reason, I had envisioned a basement fridge covered in schedule magnets ... which actually sounds kind of cool now that I type it.
  9. What exactly are you doing with all these magnets?
  10. Scholarships are goofy. They say they want welll-rounded students with good grades. What they really mean is high ACT/GPA kids who participate in just enough activities to not be considered shut-ins.
  11. If you let Montgomery play out his contract, you might get a late round comp pick if he signs and sticks elsewhere (depending on what the Packers do in free agency). Worth considering.
  12. The Rams basically had 3 extra possessions today by virtue of a great punt, winning the coin toss, and the Montgomery fumble. That was the difference in today’s game. I lowered my expectations for this team after the loss to the Lions, so today was actually a (mostly) enjoyable game. They don’t have the horses to go all the way. The roster has eroded due to 3 consecutive poor drafts (2015-2017). Either accept that or don’t bother watching because it will only upset you. I have faith that they’re in the process of righting the ship, but nothing is going to change this year. McCarthy, despite his shortcomings, has earned the right to finish the season. I doubt he’s coaching this team next year, but I’m forever grateful for that man for helping my favorite team win a Super Bowl. Go Pack!
  13. I think that short punt might actually benefit the Packers because it’s unlikely LA eats up all 5 minutes on their way to a win. Rodgers will likely get the ball back one more time and be playing with 4 downs.
  14. They have to find ways to force FG’s - either through skill or luck. I just don’t see the Rams going cold - not with Gurley lathered up.
  15. The Rams are pretty much having their way with them now. Edit: Jones gives them life! Get that guy the ball!
  16. By the time the second half starts, the Rams will basically have had 3 consecutive possessions without the Packers getting the ball. What an unbelievable sequence of events. Excellent punt. Safety. 2 overturned incompletions. TD. Then the coin toss gives them a free possession. Oh, and McCarthy handed them an extra minute with his timeout usage.
  17. I don’t doubt that the Jaguars belonged in the playoffs last year, but their strength of schedule was also 30 of 32. And isn’t their roster more or less the same as last year except for injuries at RB?
  18. Who is watching? I’ll go with the Rams, but I think it will be closer than most people think. Go Pack!
  19. This article suggests HHCD is on the trading block, citing a ‘reliable source.’ They’d likely get a 3rd or 4th round compensatory selection when he leaves in free agency after this season. Who would give up more than that to rent HHCD? Not to mention, the Packers sort of need him. https://www.acmepackingcompany.com/2018/10/28/18034564/ha-ha-clinton-dix-on-the-block-tramon-josh-jones-breeland-brice-whitehead-greene
  20. I don’t know if you meant that to be sarcastic, but I actually think that’s possible. 5 years ago, I would have said you were nuts. If anything, it’s likely to increase given the program’s solvency issues. Now with the Democratic Socialism movement growing, I view an expansion of benefits as a possibility. I’ll leave it at that. I have no intention of getting political. My point is that as good planners, we should diversify our investments and / or income so we’re covered no matter what way the political winds shift. I love my Roth 401(k) and IRA, but I wouldn’t be totally surprised if the government figured out how to tax those again before I retire. When I was in my 20s, I was all about funding my qualified retirement plans. Now that I’m in my 30s, I’m equally concerned with filling up non-qualified buckets because of the flexibility they afford.
  21. Jaguars are now 3-5. Was anyone buying that they were the second best team in the AFC last year?
  22. The average attendance for an FCS football game in 2017 was just over 8,200. UWGB men’s basketball draws 4,000 for a weekend home game. 8,000 for football doesn’t seem like a stretch. Green Bay would also be an above average market by FCS standards. NDSU, the reigning FCS champs, play in Fargo (whose metro area is smaller than Green Bay’s). Interestingly, Vince Leaving Lombardi once advised UWGB to start a soccer program instead of football. He was right about soccer’s growth, but that did not translate to much revenue or increased interest in the school.
  23. Thankfully, I don’t have to worry much about student loans anymore unless it pertains to saving for my son’s education. That’s still a pretty neat benefit. I’ve heard some companies are also starting to offer student loan assistance as an employee benefit in order to attract top talent. Personally, I think the trick is to avoid accumulating large debt in the first place unless a cost / benefit analysis shows it’s worthwhile.
