  1. My in-laws are going through a divorce. My FIL is a decent guy and all of the kids are behind him. Their split isn’t very amicable and, while witnessing it from a distance, I gotta say it’s one of the craziest things I’ve ever observed. I’m very sorry for those who have experienced it first hand.
  2. The reason the Big Ten is in this situation is because of Ohio State and a few other schools crying about the Big Ten not starting the season in the fall. The optics of this is just that Ohio State is basically the screaming toddler and the Big Ten giving in to the screaming toddler and giving them anything and everything they want. If Ohio State wouldn't have made a big stink of starting the season in the spring the Big Ten wouldn't have started the season in the fall. Does 1 member out of 14 have that kind of influence on a league? C’mom, they wanted the money. They pretended that they were above such influences only to realize they simply couldn’t forgo that type of revenue. It’s a bad look. At least the other leagues (aside from the Pac-12) were like Yeah, we’re just going to take the money.
  3. I’d like to see the CFP committee snub Ohio State as punishment for the Big Ten’s waffling. I was fine with their decision to move the season to the Spring (disappointed, sure), but then to change their mind 2 months later as the pandemic worsened? That just reeks of hypocrisy.
  4. Fair enough. Yeah, that jump is staggering (double?). I’m sure we’ll discover all sorts of ancillary COVID impacts as the months roll on.
  5. Green Bay has had 53 shootings this year, which is apparently more than 2018 and 2019 combined. The police have partially attributed the uptick to pandemic-related stress. My younger brother is a carpenter who has been very comfortable living in fixer-uppers the past 10 years. He finally caved last week and bought a nicer place in the suburbs.
  6. As others have pointed out, Rivers had effectively been blocked from the Super Bowl by Manning, Brady, and Roethlisberger who represented the AFC in the Super Bowl in every year from 2003-2018 except 2012 (Flacco). I think judging a player by their contemporaries is a good way to evaluate HOF candidacy (especially when counting stats become meaningless after a few decades), but Rivers’ contemporaries where really, really good. I don’t know if he’ll get in, but he deserves to be in the conversation.
  7. So the Eagles are going with Jalen Hurts and Carson Wentz’s multimillion dollar extension doesn’t even kick in until next year. He is owed a guaranteed $107 million over the next 4 seasons.
  8. Bummer, I’m a big fan of the Pairwise system. Weighted standings work much better over 30+ games than they did for the old BCS football selection model. But hey, it’s 2020. Teams have to be prepared to face inequities if they want to play hockey (or any other sport).
  9. Wisconsin is still #17 in the Pairwise rankings, despite being 5-5. Generally, the top 11-13 make the NCAA tourney (depending on which teams win their conference tournaments).
  10. A cursory review shows he was once MVP of the AFL with 15 TD passes and 17 interceptions.
  11. I know there has been ‘inflation’ to QB numbers, but I also think that the early 2000s produced an unusual high number of great QBs (Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Roethlisberger, Rivers, and Eli Manning). From 2006 to 2016, there will likely only be one HOF QB drafted in that span (Wilson).
  12. I feel bad for the Steelers because they’ve been adversely impacted by all of the schedule changes, but they’re also playing a NFC East team at home. Gotta take care of business there.
  13. He’s 8th all-time in the only counting stat that matters - wins (131). He also has started 233 consecutive games dating back to 2006, including 200+ starts with the same franchise. In his spare time, he has sired 9 children. If he doesn’t get in, he should be the standard against which future borderline HOFers are judged. I think he gets in eventually.
  14. Who had Colt McCoy leading the 4-7 Giants to victory at Seattle on their 2020 bingo card?
  15. The local USA Today network ran a story a few days ago about Jordan Love (presumably that the Packers were pleased with his progress), but it’s behind a pay wall. The headline seemed encouraging, though.
  16. This is such a great topic. I could debate at length. Instead, some quick hitters: - Russell Wilson could have a career ending injury next week and he would still be a HOFer. He’s 94-45-1 (0.675) and has started every game of his 9 year career (which also includes a Super Bowl win). - Matthew Stafford is a very good QB stuck on a bad team. He’s 74-86-1 (0.473) all-time. Without a Super Bowl win or a remarkable run of success to end his career, he belongs in the ‘Hall of Very Good.’ - Kurt Warner has won fewer games than Stafford (67-49). Nice guy. Good story. But the bar was lowered when he was enshrined. I know he got a late start, but there was a 5-year stretch in the middle of his career where he was not a primary starter.
  17. I was unimpressed with Tony Romo’s call today. I keep hearing he is terrific (and I didn’t think he was bad), but I wasn’t blown away. I guess I don’t watch many CBS games.
  18. I think they lost HFA when they laid an egg at home against the Vikings.
  19. It’s kind of ironic that two rookie 2nd round WRs (Pittman and Reager) have had monster TDs against the Packers.
  20. Elway with only 300 is absolutely mind blowing to me. There’s been ‘inflation’ over time. It’s a lot easier to play QB now. At one point, Elway was #2 on the all-time list behind only Marino.
  21. I’ve always thought of 300 TDs at the standard for QBs because Elway landed on 300 on the dot, but 400 is rair air.
  22. But he hasn’t missed a FG all year. Knock. Knock. Knock.
  23. Unless it's Sex Panther. +1, obviously
  24. I’m joining the GT late (just caught up on the DVR). My only complaint is that damn train whistle. That’s Vikings level gamesmanship and this franchise is better than that.
  25. No problem. I’m not a ‘pound the table’ type of guy, but I know it’s really hard to get to 6 wins by Week 8 AND be healthy. So when the Packers find themselves in that situation (like they have in each of the past 2 years), I wish they’d be a little more opportunistic. They might not ever be in that position again with Rodgers.
