  1. I'm ok with Pettine going. The defense hasn't improved one iota under his leadership despite an insane number of additions and investments. This is as talented of a defensive group as I've seen on this team since 2010 and it's the same old results. Chalk this up to a bad day at the office. I’m a little jaded, but not ready to pile on Pettine.
  2. Let’s use more first draft round draft picks on defense ... that will fix things.
  3. I reject that narrative. A lot of their games have been close. Detroit was the beneficiary of 3 turnovers (none of which were really forced).
  4. They can finish tied and GB may hold the tie-breaker on the basis of their division record since Minnesota lost to Chicago.
  5. I am going to give them a mulligan here on the road. Really discouraging as healthy as we are that the defense still sucks though. New personnel, new coordinator, same defense. It's been enormously disappointing. I don’t think you can put this all on the defense. The only TD they gave up was on a short field following the blocked punt.
  6. I am going to give them a mulligan here on the road. Really discouraging as healthy as we are that the defense still sucks though. Yeah, me too. Gonna put my phone down until Noon next Sunday and tune out the noise. I have no idea how good this team is, but I know they aren’t this bad.
  7. They might as well just start going for it on 4th down every time. They really can’t afford to punt.
  8. He graded-out pretty well by PFF last year with KC. After watching that punt block, I’m almost positive it has something to do with the entire unit.
  9. I’m pretty sure they arrived Friday.
  10. In defense of Martinez, I’ve heard the local radio guys say he plays with a lot of gap discipline. When guys are running wild and he’s away from the play, someone else might not be where they are supposed to be.
  11. How about a turnover here? Edit: Or hold them to another FG, please?
  12. I’m trying to remain level-headed by reminding myself that a week ago, I would have gladly taken a 1-1 split on this road trip.
  13. Pretty simple, just raise tuition and rake in more of that student loan cash. If you’re the AD - you have to step down, right? I mean I can only imagine the conversation with my boss if I lost $20 million.
  14. Credit the D for keeping us in this one. They only gave up 2.25 points per possession.
  15. FSU fires Willie Taggert and they still owe him over $20 million. How do you explain that one to your Board?
  16. I’m a few minutes behind on the DVR, but I don’t think I’ve seen Rivers throw an incompletion yet.
  17. Always happy to watch the Vikings lose, but was hoping the Bears would beat the Eagles since they hold a potential tie-breaker over the Packers.
  18. You’ve been nervous about all of them, right? If so, let’s keep that going. Regarding Smith, he was ticketed over a month ago... I’m sure the team/his teammates have been aware of it for awhile. I doubt it’ll have any major impact until there would be a suspension. Right. I’ve only taken the Packers against the Bears and the Broncos. I’d pick against them today too, but I realize how ridiculous that looks week-after-week as they constantly prove me wrong.
  19. I’m nervous about this one. They’re going on the road against an elite QB with lots of weapons on offense. They also have the cloud of the Za’Darius Smith legal issue hanging over them (which will almost certainly result in a 2-game suspension at some point ... hopefully next year).
  20. It’s crazy to think the Chargers got the better QB out of that exchange, plus Shawne Merriman for their trouble. Even crazier still: They already had Drew Brees. They could have taken Larry Fitzgerald #1 overall (he went #3 overall in 2004).
  21. Not to pick on you, as I believe you know why this team is playing well and is among the class of the NFC, but this sort of statement drives me a little nuts. It's a "Packers Twitter" type statement ... a place that is populated with so many "Yeah, but" fans that are just so insufferable at times. the team wins, plays well, and yet all they want to focus on are the perceived negatives like "the tackling was bad" or "they threw all those balls to the RBS, therefore all the WRs are terrible". It's a bunch of broad negative generalizations that, while might have some truth to them, are being blown out of proportion. This team is 7-1 because they are playing well enough to be 7-1. They've beat a bunch of good teams because they are a good team. If they go 13-3, it's because they were good enough to go 13-3. This schedule is no Patriots-like slouch. JMB - I try to manage my expectations by blending optimism and realism. I was a long-time TT/MM apologist. I preached patience when others were calling for heads to roll. I figured a healthy Rodgers was good for 10 wins and sooner or later, they’d get hot going into December finally win a second championship in this era. It didn’t happen. MM got stale, and TT (the hero who built a Super Bowl winner through the draft) suffered a steep cognitive decline while Mark Murphy was out sledding. Something inside me finally broke last year. I really like this year’s team, but I’m coming off a bad breakup and need to learn how to love again.
  22. I can’t recall exactly how their comp picks changed, but the Packers also benefited from this rule when they released Martelus Bennett mid-season.
  23. The Broncos won a Super Bowl with Von Miller in the last year of his rookie contract. How has that team looked since he’s been paid at market rate? I’d also like to point out that the Packers have basically gotten the Smiths, Savage, and Gary for what it would have costed to add Mack (in terms of free agent dollars and draft picks).
  24. Rob Demovsky replied to your tweet!
  25. A lot of times you'll get comp picks for these guys who leave. Makes it not really worth unloading guys for mid to late round picks unless you think you're getting back more than what you would otherwise. I think bad teams also tend to overvalue their own assets ... hence why they are bad.
