  1. My DVR cut off the first 4 minutes of the game ... guess I didn’t miss much.
  2. Alex Light is inactive (mild surprise?). I know Billy Turner is effectively the third tackle since he can move over from RG, but what happens after that? It probably doesn’t matter because if they go through two tackles tonight, a lot of other things are going wrong. Edit: Only 7 OL active (Jenkins, Patrick) - a bit risky?
  3. I’m remaining optimistic, but no outcome would surprise me tonight. This team could be 11-5 or 5-11.
  4. 27-17 Packers. GPG!
  5. A jersey pet peeve of mine is when people order custom jerseys of a former player in a current jersey style. For example, someone in my office is wearing a new Nike Bart Starr jersey that looks no different than an Aaron Rodgers jersey, except for the name and number. To each their own, I guess.
  6. Indeed, the Joe Alexander jersey is a badge of honor. The biggest reason I haven’t bought a new Packer jersey in 10 years is because I like wearing the nostalgic ones. Though, as a grown man, I feel like it’s no longer acceptable for me to wear a basketball jersey unless I’m suiting up (personal preference, not judging).
  7. I’m 33. Here is the list of Packer jerseys I’ve bought or have been gifted in my lifetime and their approximate year of purchase: #34 Edgar Bennett (1994) #89 Mark Chmura (1996) # 4 Brett Favre (1997) #84 Bill Schroeder (2000) #80 Donald Driver (2006) #11 Brian Brohm (2009) - $14.99 on clearance I can’t bring myself to buy a jersey of someone who is younger than me, but I may make an exception for a neat looking throwback (I regret not buying one of the ‘power ball’ jerseys) or if I get caught up in the euphoria of a Super Bowl win.
  8. The fan complaints surprise me. Why would you buy a jersey of someone you’ve never seen play professionally unless they were from your home town or alma mater? I’m asking this question as someone who learned his lesson after buying a Joe Alexander Bucks jersey.
  9. I’m aware of the music connection and it means very little to me. When he was assigned (or chose) #26 after the draft, it just felt like a placeholder. All of the ‘good’ numbers were taken. I don’t blame the guy for switching once something else became available. He wore #4 at Maryland and I half expected him to take #24. Josh Jones pulled his own switcheroo in the off season after two full years, rendering #24 unavailable post draft. Edit: The jersey number discussion is inconsequential to me. This is just offseason chatter until real football starts tonight. Please don’t think I’m bent out of shape over this.
  10. Savage is going back to 26? Lame.
  11. A few predictions on the eve of kickoff: 1) The Packers finish 9-7 and narrowly miss the playoffs 2) Aaron Rodgers is still a Pro Bowl QB (30 TD, 8 INT) 3) Kevin King plays in fewer than 10 games 4) Dexter Williams or Tra Carson start at least 1 game at RB 5) Jake Kumerow has at least 4 TDs: cements folk hero status 6) Darnell Savage impresses; Rashan Gary disappoints 7) Elgton Jenkins finishes the year as a starter on the OL. 8) The Packers lose at least one game to the Lions. 9) Vikings also finish 9-7; Mike McCarthy is their next HC.
  12. I can’t wait until they pay Dak $40 million/ year (heck, give him $50!). They also just paid La’el Collins big money. I still hate that he was essentially a free first round pick due to the way he fell out of the draft. The NFL should have intervened and put him in the supplemental draft.
  13. One advantage of the conditional trades that are unlikely to convey is they prevent a halfway decent player a team just cut from going to a division rival. I’d much rather have McCray in Cleveland than say Minnesota.
  14. The Bears have 3. SMH.
  15. Savage switched from #26 to #21. When he was assigned #26 after the draft, I thought it might be a placeholder. None of the more common DB #s were available (21-25, 31-35).
  16. Kizer claimed by the Raiders.
  17. Weird bit of NFL news: The Saints picked up Kiko Alonso in the Dolphins fire sale for ... Vince Biegel ??? You can count me as someone who thought Kevin King + Vince Biegel > TJ Watt. Watt’s injury history concerned me. Now King is the one who is never healthy and Biegel is contributing elsewhere. I wonder what other Dolphins might be available for a late round draft pick?
  18. I definitely read swap too. I assume that means we trade McCray and a 7th for a 6th ... or something similar.
  19. Hoyer is a competent game manager that I would definitely like to see the Packers explore bringing in to backup Rodgers. If he ended up starting a few games for us, he would at least give the team a chance to win each week. You can put me on the Hoyer for QB2 train too.
  20. He very well may have been released already. All of the roster news thus far has been from players / agents willingly sharing. I wouldn’t read into it just yet.
  21. I just finished a bad book (Adam’s Fallacy by economist Duncan Foley ... if you want to avoid it). This is NOT bugging me because I’m excited to move on to something else. I’ll abandon a bad book 1-2 chapters in, but after that, I always stick it out.
  22. Justin McCray is another roster casualty. They must feel good about their interior offensive line depth.
  23. J’Mon Moore will apparently be released - is that even a mild surprise?
  24. The Packers go with Crosby.
  25. No, I think he has zero trade value and I think it's 50/50 that he even gets claimed. This is a guy who really just needs to sit for 2 years behind Rodgers in ONE offense. I'm not confident he sticks, but I am confident that if he'd been handled properly, he'd be a very good backup QB and possibly a good starter(good closer to Winston/Mariotta than Matty Ryan....etc... Incidentally, has ANYONE heard anything about Nick Perry? I saw in the comments section in the Green Bay Gazette maybe? Not positive, but it was talking about the potential of bringing Nick Perry back this year for the vet minimum. And of course, half the fans lose their minds, but if you could get him for the veteran minimum, and he could come in and rotate with the guys we've got their now? That would make us so much more dangerous. Have him play 20-25 snaps instead of 75. He's one of the best in the NFL at setting the edge and he can get to the QB. it seems entirely unrealistic. I've never heard of a situation like this...coming back in the same year. But maybe Perry's just real about it and knows they had to cut him? Any chance?? I'm curious if anyone would be opposed. He wouldn't play ahead of Gary....I'm not seeing a downside. They're top-heavy at OLB'er, they only have 4 guys now with Gilbert traded. Perry is undisputedly a good player when healthy. I’ll politely disagree on Kizer’s value. I’m not delusional, but as I’ve stated before - I believe his current floor is a waiver claim. He’s young, healthy, athletic, and smart. Certainly worth a flier as a QB3 / reclamation project. I guess we’ll find out his value soon enough. And I have no concerns about signing Perry on a minimum contract. I’d hate for him to take a roster spot from a promising young player, but injuries happen and I could see him being a good addition at that price.
