  1. Looks like you can buy the whole series on DVD for $20-$30, the cost of a couple months of Netflix. I don't understand why people are losing their minds over this. My wife and I watch Friends most nights before we fall asleep. Switching discs is a pain once you get used to streaming. Worth losing your mind? No. But a modest inconvenience? Yes. I’m frugal and will continue switching discs. We just have ad-laden Hulu for $1/month and can’t stream Friends anyway.
  2. Dak Prescott apparently rejected a $30 million / year offer from the Cowboys and wants $40 million / per year. It will be fun watching the Cowboys implode.
  3. I don't think a degree is needed to make a sitcom or to write a song. I still believe college is pushed way too much especially for things you don't need a degree for. Totally agree, but that’s an entirely different discussion. I’m a fairly plain vanilla guy, and while I’m happy to have carved out a pretty decent existence by avoiding risks, our world is better because others embrace the challenge. Respect.
  4. It’s really easy to bash kids for taking out student loans to earn fine arts degrees. Then you realize how much free joy a sitcom on TV or a song on the radio bring and it makes you glad some people are willing to take that risk.
  5. Larry Sanders is playing Big3 basketball this season. He’s probably the only guy in the league who still gets an NBA paycheck, as well.
  6. I like Big3 Basketball. Why do I like Big3 Basketball? Edit: They are in Milwaukee on August 4!
  7. I don’t think the Brewers can win a World Series as presently constructed. That doesn’t mean I won’t root for them. That doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy following them. That doesn’t mean they won’t win a lot of games. It is what it is. Though I think it’s unlikely, I’d support a total tear down. Success in sports, much like life, depends on one’s ability to delay gratification.
  8. The Santa Monica Observer was apparently prepared to run a story suggesting Tyler Skaggs died of an opioid overdose, but pulled it before it was published due to threats from local police and the Angels organization.
  9. I’m really excited about the Bucks as presently constructed. I loved the additions of Robin Lopez and Wes Matthews and wouldn’t mind seeing more moves like that. I want to see Giannis win a championship as an alpha. If they were to come up short again next year, I’d be more open to trying something different.
  10. No matter how many good teams there are in the West, the Bucks only have to beat one of them in route to the championship.
  11. Why....why do you even have to bring up the guy we traded away at 19 years old for a player in JJ Reddick who didn't want to play here and who's now a max level player? By the way, I'd be totally stunned if the Sixers did this and didn't offer Butler the max. As long as we’re having a pity party, let’s not forget they still owe Larry Sanders $1.8 million next year.
  12. And the Bucks traded him to rent JJ Redick for 1/2 a season.
  13. They're just worried about their profits. Milk the city for an arena and then leave them high and dry with a half-assed attempt at keeping a legit contender together. The whole state is on the hook. And the Packers couldn’t even get help from the state in 2000. That endeavor at least followed a championship and lead to another one.
  14. If Brogdon was 1/2 the price of Middleton, why wouldn’t they keep Brogdon and use the other $15 million / year to build out the roster?
  15. Overpaying for your own players was the deadly sin of the Larry Harris era (among many other missteps). I know Larry Harris didn’t have Giannis, but my goodness does this ever feel familiar.
  16. At least they got something.
  17. I thought the same thing and feel the same way.
  18. I like Middleton, but this feels a lot like Michael Redd’s max contract. Good player? Sure. Good guy? You bet. Max contract? Meh. * I know it’s not a true max, but it’s about 93% of a max contract.
  19. Patrick - your point is well-taken, but I think what others have tried to convey is that it’s mentally more difficult to part with a physical dollar than a digital dollar. I’m disciplined enoiugh to stay within budget even when charging everything to a credit card, but I find I often come in under budget when I force myself to use cash for smaller purchases.
  20. I’ll admit I don’t have a perfect grasp on the realignment situation, but I believe the granting of rights (TV contracts) for some major conferences are up in 2023 (10 years after the last major realignment). The major conferences are unlikely to add new members before then because it would dilute each school’s share of the TV money. I know UConn is not an AAU school, so that hurts their Big Ten chances and they also have some bad blood with BC (which hurts their ACC chances), but I figured they’d still be a top expansion target next time around.
  21. I know there are a few B99 fans on BF. I’m just finishing the most recent season, but have been with the show since the beginning. Andre Braugher as Captain Raymond Holt might be the best actor / character on network TV.
  22. I pay cash for just about any purchase under $50 (except gas). It’s a budgeting mechanism for me. It’s painful to part with the physical cash. I still like getting points on larger credit card purchases. Minimizing the amount of times I swipe my cards also helps reduce my chances of being a victim of identity theft.
  23. Exactly. I sympathize with the business owner, but as a consumer, I’d rather have the option to receive a discount than pay a surcharge. It’s just a mental accounting thing.
  24. This basketball nugget isn’t worthy of its own thread, so I’ll leave it here: I’m surprised by UConn joining the Big East. They don’t exactly fit the private school, basketball-only profile. Since the Big East / American split in 2013, I figured UConn would eventually end up in the Big Ten or ACC.
