  1. That's how I'm reading into it to. From what I am hearing this is something that isn't supposed to be public knowledge. Braun isn't appealing since he hasn't been suspended. It seems more that MLB is at the stage of determining if the initial positive was even legitimate.
  2. That number seems a little exaggerated. If we could land Fielder at $20 mil per, I would have the payroll at just over $90 right now, including K-Rod. Get K-Rod off of the books and the financial situation is even better, shop Hart to give Gamel his shot and drop the payroll even more. After 2012 Randy Wolf can come off the books. All this while it's completely feasible that the Brewers could probably sustain a payroll between $90-100 mil right now. An extension to Greinke and/or Marcum with Fielder would be possible.
  3. If you're talking trade partners let's have a talk with the Padres about Jason Bartlett or the Angels about their trio of infielders (Izturis, Aybar, Callaspo).
  4. I think you're definitely selling the financial flexibility of the franchise a little short. In the past Attanasio has said there was flexibility for what he deemed "special circumstances." Now, at the present, that the team has made a deep playoff push, drawn 3,000,000 fans yet again, is due a new television contract and has more national exposure, it's only logical to assume that the financial flexibility is on the rise. Does this mean that they'll sign Fielder? Definitely not, but they'll explore the possibility.
  5. I'm with you on moving Hart to 1B. I'm thinking a little risky in filling the RF hole though. Sure, get Gamel ready to man the position. I'm interested in the Grady Sizemore situation in Cleveland. Monster talent that has played only 104 games the last two years. Cleveland has an $8.5 million option with a $500,000 buyout. I'm thinking they'll set him free. I'd love the Brewers to try to get him at the reduced rate his injury history will force him to go for.
  6. The Brewers mean the world to me and the division title achieved this year has been a great thing to experience. Being under 29 years of age, the steps the franchise has taken to become consistently competitive in recent years has filled my baseball loving heart with joy. Thank you to everyone involved and all of my fellow fans!
  7. I love Prince Fielder. I would say no to him and I would say an even louder no to Jose Reyes. We're worried about signing Fielder to a mega long-term deal because he has a large frame but most are willing to sign a shortstop to a mega long-term contract that has missed 191 games over the last 3 years?
  8. I wont argue the fact that Washington has some nice things going for them but the two that aren't going for them are A) Philadelphia and B) Atlanta. Both are set up to dominate that division for the next 2 years. It would be near impossible for a third team in that division to come close to 85 wins. The Nationals have some big questions to. Obviously the biggest is can Strasburg come back after Tommy John surgery? So far he's got through the low-minors portion of his rehab. Werth's contract was a joke but can he come back next year and do something other than get on base? Can the Nationals improve their infield defense? Zimmerman is a career .960 fielder but has been in the low .950s the last two years, Ian Desmond is fielding lower than Yuni Betancour at .954, Espinosa is the bright spot. Add Fielder to that mix and that is one poor defensive infield with a rotation, aside from Strasburg, that doesn't strike out a lot.
  9. You can definitely use the Twins to gauge what's possible for the Brewers. It goes to show what consistent competitive baseball allows for as far as payroll flexibility.
  10. Well the only definite team in the Fielder sweepstakes will be Milwaukee. I'm sure both sides would be interested if it could happen financially. The question I have is even if a team like Baltimore were interested, would Prince be? The Orioles are still light-years away from competing in the AL East. It's obvious Prince wants a big deal but the guy is ultra competitive. I'm having trouble imagining him with the Orioles, the Mariners or even the Nationals, who all probably wont compete for at least a couple years. Of course come the offseason surprise teams will step up for his services so it's premature to even be discussing destinations.
  11. Tony La Russa is a piece of work. I can't believe over the course of his career just how many people have turned their opinions against him. Of everything I've read the only place where some are still defending him are obviously involved with the Cardinals. I'm not sure TLR has many fans left.
  12. Or they just walk away thinking their team is awesomesauce..
  13. Obviously more could be done but I would at the very least be satisfied with the acquisitions of K-Rod, Lopez and Hairston. Last I heard on Heath Bell was it was down to Yankees and Phillies and that SD wont trade him unless package was "astronomical."
  14. I disagree on the Weaver and Guillen thing. You DON'T throw at the head for ANY reason. Weaver earned his fine and suspension.
  15. Latest rumor is Wandy Rodriguez to Cleveland for 2 prospects.
  16. It was a goof.. Mike Adams to Texas NOT Heath Bell
  17. Opened up a pouch of Starkist hickory smoked tuna creations to make a tuna sandwich. Watched an inning. Went back to make my sandwich. Cat ate tuna http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif Settled on a hot pocket for lunch.
  18. Yeah I agree that Yunie is probably going to be our starting SS the rest of the way. Darn his little hot streak on the last road trip right before the deadline! That's probably what cemented it. If we don't sweep the Astros today with their little league lineup...
  19. Hearing Derrek Lee is close to returning to the NL Central. The Pirates making a deal for him.
  20. I hate when objects get in the way of distance. They can try to triangulate the projected distance all they want, it's never right or even consistent.
  21. Love the deal.. Olney tweeted he's assuming Furcal to Cardinals deal is done. Not official yet though.
  22. All the memories... Even on the Yankees side. Ex-Brewers Graeme Lloyd and Charlie Hayes...
  23. Sorry to hear. Read a tweet from Buster Olney that Irabu was always a depressed individual when he covered him. Wasn't Hideki known for wearing magnets under his uniform when pitching?
