  1. Phil Garner... And I'm a big fan of this minor league umpire. Can't understand why Colorado doesn't like him.
  2. Agreed on this.. And they booed Rickie as well.. Did Rickie pick Rickie? The whole Derby was dull and full of sour grapes. It would have been fun if Braun was healthy...
  3. The thing that scares me about this situation is that this was a sober individual, gently, although solely focused on the task that fell to his death. I've watched so many nasty people start pushing and shoving in the stands over a baseball. I think we're on borrowed time for a true disastrous event where a group goes over the railings or a child. I don't mean to sound dark as this story is bad enough. I can definitely see baseball asking players to not throw any balls in the upper levels near railings as a precautionary measure and I'm sure stadiums will look more seriously at measures to keep fans from easily leaning over any railings.
  4. I don't get to nearly as many games as I use to and I haven't gotten to a game that was affected by serious rain in a few years. I'm interested what the situation is with the leaking of the roof. I was watching a game a couple weeks ago and several camera angles while Brian and Bill were talking about the severe weather seemed to show water pouring from sections of the roof. Is that still an issue? I just remember the embarrassment of All-Star weekend, the first embarrassment, during the HR Derby when they showed water pouring onto the field. I'd be out in right-center watching water pour onto the concourse or watching puddles form by the on-deck circle. As far as them being too careful about the roof being closed when inclement weather is approaching I can see them doing it in case of failure. Meaning that if for some reason the roof should fail it would fail in the closed position and the games would be protected. Once the bad weather passed and the roof wouldn't open, no harm no foul, you can play with the roof closed on a nice day.
  5. A very sad story indeed. I've always had an eerie feeling of the height of railings at ballparks. Most of those at Miller Park come up to mid-thigh on me. I've always thought of those on the higher levels and precarious areas having to be careful, especially when boozed. I too am shocked we're not talking about this kind of thing more often.
  6. As well as fans sitting in the lowest tier of the seating bowl in every stadium. Outfield walls should also be covered in 2-3 layers of Martha Stewart Collection pillows, the infield dirt should be replaced with shredded memory foam and game balls should now be bubble wrapped wads of cottage cheese. Enforce the rules as written and catchers as well as runners wont put themselves in these injury situations. The games been played this way for generations and now we want to talk about rule changes? I never understand it. Geena Davis took a hit at the plate. Can't we? Go Peaches!
  7. And good for Brewer Fans! It's been good to hear that as a fanbase we don't just shrug our shoulders and let these people get away with being idiots. I can only imagine the negativity that she brought on herself. Loving the fact that people strapped themselves in and just kept on it.
  8. It's unfortunate when these injuries happen but it is part of the game. There's nothing that can be done without, as hammer said, ruining the integrity of the game. Make all runners cross home plate on a slide? All runners automatically called out if the catcher has the ball in hand at the plate? Personally I see no elevated injury occurrences at the plate than I do at second base on hard slides.
  9. I know I did not see someone throwing out Wes Helms as an option for the Brewers. Just throwing out the name again stings.
  10. We live in a sad world... When I heard about the promotion it went in one ear and out the other because you knew the outcome. It was definitely interesting but was as good as ruined when the idea first came to mind. The idiots in society ruin everything. Anything to find an easy way to make a quick buck without having to earn it. Cheat a promotion and slapping it on Ebay is their calling.
  11. Wes Helms. That is all.
  12. Love it. Just had to throw that in there. Love it.. Love it.
  13. Being 24, he was probably my first true favorite ballplayer. I remember being proud to own his rookie card. Heartbroken when he was traded to Colorado though. It's too bad he had so many back issues in the latter half of his career. Healthy, he easily could have obtained 2200-2500 hits. His lines in Milwaukee and Colorado were great. Was very glad to see him back in '05 & '06, wish he ended it here. Interesting to see he obtained exactly 1,000 hits for the Brewers.
  14. It's great reading the Yankees fan boards. They just can't believe it. Mostly calling it "shady" that he signed with the team that traded him for $50-61 million less. Some even calling for the MLBPA to get involved with him accepting such a lesser offer. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  15. Did someone actually spell Geoff Jenkins' name wrong? Looks like Jenkens.
  16. Hmm.. Care to throw your speculation out there since no one knows for sure? I'm thinking it has to do with Lori. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  17. Have to agree that I don't understand the difference between being a flamethrower and being a location pitcher if both result in success. The fact that Marcum shows an excellent changeup makes that fastball look faster. As long as the numbers are there I'll take any kind of thrower. There's a lot of nitpicking.
  18. There is no evidence to support the Contract Year myth. Forbes put out an interesting article in April of 2010 pretty much denouncing the myth, except of course in very rare instances of players playing above expectation (ie: Brad Hawpe, Johnny Damon). The Myth of the Contract Year Slugger Unfortunately the study only included hitters.
  19. The Red Sox guaranteed well over a quarter of a billion dollars to two players during the Winter Meetings. Thankfully they're in the same division as the Yankees but you can't help but feel sorry for the Orioles, Blue Jays and Rays.
  20. After scoring 4.88 runs per game (4th in MLB) during the regular season, I wouldn't consider the 4 runs scored in the playoffs to become some kind of trend.
  21. Hmmm.. I think Prince's defensive shortcomings are being greatly exaggerated now. It would be a nightmare if he'd land in the NL Central. You just know he'd murder us for the duration of his contract.
  22. You can't ask for a more glowing review from a previous player than that.
  23. Love the deal. A solid 2/3 starter straight up for an unproven prospect already with clubhouse issues. I'll take that any day of the week.
