  1. Bill -- I now understand what you are saying. I wasn't really comparing Ben Grieve's defensive performance to Brady's. I was just mentioning that overall his offense is not worth his lack of defense. You could say the same thing about Brady Clark with his defense not worth his lack of offense. It really can't be a one sided arguement with all of the recent Brady bashing going on lately. Neither of them belong on the team. Grieve is best suited in the AL and Brady is best suited to be a fifth OF option, not a back-up. If we don't bring up Hart or sign a FA, I would be willing to see what Ginter can do in Left and stick Jenkins in Right (where he belongs anyways). So there's a difference between saying "Ben Grieve doesn't care" and "Ben Grieve acts like he doesn't care"? Well. I wouldn't say either way. However, there is a reason that Lou Pinella didn't like him.
  2. Nice little Tampa Bay/Brazelton plug on FSN. He's throwing a no hitter into the eighth, but has six walks.
  3. That ball short hopped the wall... that's exactly what I said. It wasn't a flyball, it was a line drive. In order to make that play, Grieve has to get a good read and make a running/leaping catch going back and to his right. But that's "easy", right? If you have Tivo you might want to watch it again. No leap was necessary if he would have taken a correct route. That simple. Grieve's offensive contributions far outweigh his defensive shortcomings. Far outweigh? I don't think so. I'd call it a stalemate. Craig Biggio's defensive struggles in Houston were outweighed by his offensive contributions. Not Grieve.
  4. Yep, that was Ben Grieve's fault. It's not like Wes Obermueller served up a hanging curveball that Cristian Guzman hammered for a line drive off the base of the right field wall, or anything. Ben Grieve should have gotten a great read on that and made a leaping catcher on the warning track. What a loser for not catching that. When your pitcher is doing his job and getting hard hit liners to the wall, you've got to do *your* job and rob them of a double. Come on Bill. That didn't even hit the wall. It bounced off the turf onto the wall. Brady Clark can make a running catch coming in on a liner, yet Grieve can't catch a liner going back when he is already playing deep? He came in on the ball, then realized it was going over his head. He can't play defense. Hate to tell you but Grieve has defensive problems no matter who is on the mound.
  5. It's not the Metrodome. Grieve does that all the time. The guy has no clue how to take a route. Get rid of the guy.
  6. I wonder how long Overbay's shot to the gap will roll on the turf?
  7. With that low BA we are still winning. Yes, mostly due to our pitching but the number of comeback wins is due to our offense coming through in other ways than getting hits. When it comes down to it, our offense comes through (most of the time) when we absolutely need it. Would we like a higher BA with RISP? Of course. But it's not the end all stat. Tonight was bad. Really bad.
  8. OPS still is the greatest stat. We didn't need a hit. A walk would have been just fine. The average still tells only half the story. Guys. Remember Overbay had a terrible at-bat as well. Not just Clark. Edit: Are multiple Brady Clark threads really needed?
  9. Overbay and Clark with two brainless at-bats. The guy can't throw strikes. Overbay chases two pitches and Clark swings on 2-0. Yost better chew those two out. Disgusting display by hitters that obviously should have been patient. Idiotic
  10. Nice to see Bill Hall getting the start. I thought for sure Counsell would get it with his career .333 (5/15) BA against Estes.
  11. The talk on Bill milking a cow was stimulating. Especially the part that they argued about the correct terms on the anatomy of a cow. Hopefully the Twins give Bill a bull to try and milk.
  12. Wes Obermueller = Mini-Brooks Kieschnick
  13. Just so you're all aware, the Twins TV morons have called Keith Ginter "Matt" for the whole game. Apparently, the producer/director in the truck think it's funny, as they haven't made the correction yet. Sounds like Daron and Bill should man up, go next door and take care of business.
  14. Remember the solo shot by Jose Vizcaino that Grieve let clank off his glove? That was just about a mirror image except Clark keeps it in the glove.
  15. Looked like Jenkins beat it. Anyway tie goes to the runner.
  16. I was sick last night and just watched the game on tape after a long 12 hour sleep. Imagine that! I get to watch two Brewer games today. One was a big Brewer win and the next will be a Ben Sheet's start. Oh.....yeah http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/pimp.gif
  17. Just going over the game quotes this wonderful morning after finally getting some sleep. Ben Sheets really has to be proud of his performance but he also has to be steaming. This lack of offensive production, especially for the top of the rotation is just getting sickening. Sheets gives up one hit. Not a bomb, a single and he still can't be in a position to win. Speaking of that single, if I were Ben I would be watching the game tape wondering how in the world Guerrero got enough of that. The pitch was picture perfect. To me it is more realistic to see Geoff Jenkins strike out six times. Look at the other name on the list that had a handful. Since when does Ben Grieve strike out 5 times? I didn't even know that was possible with how picky he is while at the plate. What happened to the "think opposite field" strategy that Butch preached to the hitters? How many times have Brewers batters tried to pull the high/away pitches?
  18. Jenkins just did. I think every Brewers batter needs a grazing blow to the head. Maybe that will knock some hitting into them.
  19. HA at the logo that has been gone for years. Daron has to be getting tired since he is ripping his old franchise.
  20. This pitching staff has proven to be pretty amazing over the last month and one week.
  21. God apparently is NOT a Brewers fan.
  22. Sure looked like Jenkins held up!
  23. Glad I have DirecTV! Got rid of cable a couple of months ago. What a sorry game even though it looked like we would be able to put a big number on the Dodgers early.
  24. Umpire Terry Craft On the ejection "He was arguing a pitch I called against him earlier and he had argued a pitch on another batter from the dugout," said Craft. "When he came to the plate, I told him he had better think twice before yelling at me from the dugout. Then he went off on me and I ejected him." On Trying to discuss Bradley's bench-jockeying "I said, 'I want to talk to you.' " said West. "He waved me off." On the Dodgers request to have the bat, helmet and gloves of Bradley returned "He left it for us, so I took it," said West. "I'll call the office (of Major League Baseball) and see if they want it. If they don't, I'll return it. He attempted to embarrass the umpires." On Jim Tracy's arguement "Left field was covered with trash and he tried to blame me for that," West said of Tracy's animated argument. "He said, 'You started it.' I don't blame Jim for taking up for his player. You can't blame us for doing our job." Dodger's Manager Jim Tracy On Bradley being provoked "A few things that took place I don't agree with," said Tracy. "I feel strongly the player was provoked. I don't appreciate it. Everyone is told Milton has a tendency to lose his temper. I don't know anyone who wouldn't lose it when provoked." On the possibility of Bradley being suspended "We'll all have our say," said Tracy. Bradley's replacement Dave Roberts On Milton Bradley "Milton's a high-energy type guy with a short fuse, and he gets frustrated," said Dave Roberts, who replaced Bradley in center field. "He's going to be provoked in certain situations, but the bottom line is that he's got to understand that we need him on the field. Sometimes you've got to take the high road." Geoff Jenkins On Bradley's thrown ball sailing over his head "I never saw it," said Brewers left fielder Geoff Jenkins. "If he would have hit me, I would have snapped." Scott Podsednik "It was a fiasco," said Brewers center fielder Scott Podsednik. "I've never been a part of something like that." Doug Davis "I played with him when he punched an umpire in the face, so it didn't surprise me," said Davis. "He got kicked out of the league."
