  1. I think there's a lot better chance that Melvin tries to work out a cheaper contract with Marcum than offer him the qualifying offer. Problem is that Marcum may want a multi-year deal to do so, but then again he may just want a one-year deal to prove himself and go for the big money after next season. I guess we'll wait and see what happens.
  2. Directly related to Melvin's refusal to sell until that 9-game stretch. Frustrating, although even at that point I doubt K-Rod would've brought back much value. Do we know that it was Melvin? Maybe the Giants didnt want or feel like they needed him until then. If it was Melvin then I am disappointed because I would have loved to get something at all for KRod I'm guessing the Giants were just waiting to see how K-Rod would do in some save opportunities, and they backed off when he looked horrible. Because the 9-game stretch was already over before he blew those saves. He could've been traded before the first Philly game if that was truly the hold-up.
  3. Directly related to Melvin's refusal to sell until that 9-game stretch. Frustrating, although even at that point I doubt K-Rod would've brought back much value. Something is better than nothing. Even shedding his salary would've been nice.
  4. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/08/rosenthals-latest-bay-bell-buck-lee-os-k-rod.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter Apparently a deal was close for K-Rod with the Giants until he blew those saves. That really screwed us over. Makes it worse that there was a deal close.
  5. except where he has been batting in the order. Yep, it's a joke that he's not in the 2 hole. Sadly, I don't see him moving up either because I'm sure RRR is in love with Gomez in that spot right now.
  6. Yeah, why couldn't we? Anyone can make him an offer. He's a free agent. We don't have to make the qualifying offer to be able to re-sign him.
  7. It's way too risky to give Marcum that kind of offer. I personally wouldn't do it. I'd just try to get something for him in a trade in late August after he's back and healthy again.
  8. He was on first base, and Gomez hit a fly ball to deep right center. He just took off running and the ball ended up being caught, and he easily got doubled off. He was almost at third when it was caught.
  9. I also enjoyed the Sheamus/Bryan street fight. I hope they do stuff like that more often from now on. The tag was very good as well. I like the 3 hours so far, because it allows for more matches and longer matches. There will obviously always be the fillers and other crap, but I care more about seeing more of everything else. I never watch live anyways, so I just fast forward through all the clips and all that crap like I always do.
  10. Perez? Haha, yeah right. They wouldn't give him up for Greinke. They got two Class A players. One position player, and one pitcher. I bet the Cubs are wishing he approved the Atlanta trade right about now. I'm sure they'd rather have Delgado.
  11. Wow, the Reds bullpen somehow got even better. Crazy.
  12. Sounds like this is made up now. Original source good bad info. So doesn't sound like it's happening. The Upton for Garza rumor is real though, so maybe the D'Backs will be looking for help in RF if they trade Upton.
  13. For the record, I'm not sure how credible this guy is, or if he gets info from other sources. I just posted it because it got retweeted by a lot of people who I trust. We'll see if there's anything to it. People are now saying this guy wasn't the only source to the rumor, so I think it's legit at this point. Doesn't mean a trade will happen though.
  14. Giovanni Mio ‏@gmiosports93 Talks between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Milwaukee Brewers are heating up for Corey Hart. #MLB #ARI #MIL Things just got interesting guys!
  15. The Dodgers are making some good moves. If they can land Dempster they'll be in great shape for a playoff run. We'll have to see if the Giants make any moves to keep up.
  16. Mike Vassallo ‏@MikeVassallo13 RHP Mike McClendon has been recalled from Triple-A @nashvillesounds to take the spot of RHP Tyler Thornburg, who was optioned yesterday. Looks like it's McClendon. Kind of disappointing. Would've rather seen De Los Santos or someone else get a chance.
  17. He definitely won't gain any value before Tuesday, but he could gain a little back and be traded sometime in August. I doubt that happens either at this point, but it's possible.
  18. I'd probably offer him arbitration, but it is definitely a risk. The fact that it's only one year though makes it ok. I wouldn't even consider offering him a multi-year contract though, and I doubt Melvin will either. The fact that he didn't even consider talking about an extension with Marcum before this season is pretty telling. Never know though I guess. I think we'll target a different free agent pitcher who is more durable.
  19. Seeing those comments from Kyles makes me even more mad about this firing. Really sad to see.
  20. Ok then. Definitely a scapegoat. I don't think this really does anything. I honestly don't blame Kyles or Kranitz. I blame the pitchers most of all. They are mostly veterans, and should be held accountable on their own. If it was on Kranitz though, the starting pitching wouldn't be doing so well either. He's obviously not all bad. I guess that's probably why they fired Kyles. Wouldn't surprise me if Kranitz goes too though.
  21. I'm guessing Chris Carter's 1.000+ OPS since getting called up a month ago means he safely has the 1B job. I guess they could DH Kottaras, but it looks like Jonny Gomes & Seth Smith have done pretty well in a platoon role as DH. I think 'Georgeous' will probably just be their backup catcher & maybe spell Suzuki against some RHPs. 'This talk' came from Marcum being out of commission since June 14th , and the most recent info I'd heard (was the RR comment you cited after today's game?) being that his most recent bullpen session hadn't gone well. It's right in here. He played catch yesterday, and threw a bullpen today. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/ramirez-fighting-sore-wrist-3469m0u-164220796.html Marcum threw another bullpen session Sunday that Roenicke termed "really good."
  22. Marcum had a bullpen session today that Roenicke said went really well, so I don't know where this talk of him getting surgery and being done for the year is coming from. The 60-day DL move was just the easiest move to make to clear a spot. He's eligible to be activated starting August 14, and by the time he's ready to be activated it'll be after that date anyway.
  23. Problem is those guys would need to be added to the 40-man roster, so I don't see it happening. It'll likely be someone on the 40-man roster already who gets the call. So it's likely going to be De Los Santos, McClendon, or Peralta.
  24. I could see having him learn 1B, just to play him there part-time to keep his bat in the lineup. Maybe he catches 100 games and plays 1B 35-40 or something. Then Maldonado still gets good playing time, and Hart can still play 1B most of the time, and shift to RF the rest of the time.
  25. I'd call up De Los Santos. Might as well see what he can do right away.
