  1. need one more... braun? can we just skip him? i wish i wasn't serious...
  2. and my foot is safe... by the way that's a nasty fastball, 96 with a tail on it... keep throwing the slider kerry
  3. and kendall hits... will stick foot in mouth if he gets a hit...
  4. beautiful pitch, i'm guessing ward, then shouse, who do they bat for ward to get the righty? or do they leave in ward?
  5. quick, someone, when was the last time we had three hits in one inning, let alone two of them extra base hits
  6. cards lose... braun can't do anything... mets lose...
  7. hey! it only took us 4 1/3 innings to double the astros hit total for 18 innings...
  8. I was just throwing a what if out there. I wouldn't argue against your comment that bush hasn't been pitching that badly (excluding the Mets game of course, but all of that came in one inning...). But I would think that if they wanted Yovanni to pitch on Friday, he'd pitch on Friday. Maybe he doesn't throw 75, but if he throws 50 or 60 (I'm just throwing arbitrary numbers out there), it doesn't seem like it'd impossible to come back on three days rest. I'd also argue that if he gets hurt batting it won't have anything to do with the prior injury. If that were to happen it'd be a completely freak accident. We don't want CC to get hurt in the batter's box, but it's a risk that you take in the NL sending your pitcher to the plate. I also feel that he'll only pitch from the pen, but the situation I brought up is essentially that, a short two inning appearance.
  9. From what I know he's scheduled to pitch today in Arizona. I'm guessing he'll be on a strict pitch count, if I had to assume it probably be about 75. I don't know what exactly their plans are for him, but what if they pitched him the first two or three innings against Cincinatti on Friday and then had Bush come in? I know it'd be a weird situation all around, but if Yo was forced to come up in the first or second inning, he could either sac bunt or bat like sheets does... just stand and watch... if he didn't come up until the third we could pinch hit for him and then Bush could come out for the bottom of the 3rd. I don't know, but if his arm is ready I don't see what the harm would be in doing that. If you can get him on the mound in a role that will help this team, I'm all for it.
  10. I don't want to start any crazy rumors, but is there a good reason that Friday's starter according to brewers.com is listed at TBD? Did something happen to Bush or could they be leaving things open to see how Yo pitches today in Arizona?
  11. OldHoss, what makes you say this? I've never heard anyone say this before. If you mean because of hills, then yes you'd probably burn more calories, but you can usually set an incline on a treadmill and get the same sort of workout. The only other thing that could cause a difference would be wind resistance, which won't cause that much of a difference for someone just starting out, as their pace probably won't be that fast. For someone starting out it actually might be more beneficial to run on a treadmill (if they can stand the monotony) due to the cushioning that treadmills have. This will allow the person to get their body use to running without as much stress being placed on the body. In the end I would think that someone starting out is only going to burn 10-20 more calories outside than inside on a treadmill, but that's just my opinion.
  12. I think what he's going for there is white rice, which doesn't contain the same nutrients that less processed brown rice does. Not to sound rude, but I'm guessing that most Asians aren't eating the highly processed white rice that most of us get. That being said I don't completely agree with everything dannyjnoonan said, to me I think it would be next to impossible to get what you need in carbs from just vegetables. But whole grains are the ticket when it comes to bread/pasta etc. The less processed the better. But take everything I say with a grain of salt, I have to eat around 3500 calories a day right now, and that's probably a conservative estimate since we (everyone in general) tend to underestimate how much we're eating each day.
  13. I was in the same boat you're in right now about three and a half years ago. I was up to about 190 lbs or so (6'-0"), not fat/obese by any means, but I had a serious lake of muscle and about zero cardiovascular fitness. On top of this I wasn't very motivated. School and work were running my life and most of my friend weren't overly active. Shortly before spring break I finally said enough was enough, I couldn't keep living that way because I knew I would comprimise my future if I kept down that path. At first I just went to the rec facility a block from my apartment (The Shell @ UW-Madison) before class in the morning and rode a stationary bike or went on the elliptical machine. I didn't see much of a difference because I didn't change my diet at all, but I did start feeling better overall. A month or so pass and I get horribly sick and stop working out in the morning, start feeling worse again, put a little bit of weight back on, etc... About a month or so before the end of the school year I start dating the woman who's now my fiance and I find out she use to be a runner in high school. First thought is I'll never do that, too fat, too slow, etc... Well she goes back home for the summer and eventually I work my way back to going to the Shell again. One day I decided to run on a treadmill. Like an idiot I figured I could do a couple miles without a lot of trouble, I mean I've been riding a stationary bike for 45 minutes or so, no problem. That run was more painful than anything I've done since, I ran one mile in 8 minutes... for some reason a couple days later I went for a run outside, and again, and again... Less than a year later I ran a half marathon, a year after that a full marathon in 3:27 minutes, and in a little over a month I'll be running the Chicago Marathon with hopes of running under 3:10 and qualifying for the Boston Marathon. Now I'm not going to advocate running as your only form of exercise, but I would strongly suggest you incorporate some form of cardiovascular exercise into your routine. If you already own a bike, go for ride a few times a week... Try going out for a run (start slow and short if you do)... Get some friends together for basketball or football or soccer (etc.)... As far as strength training, that's not an area I know much about. If you were to meet me you'd understand. Maybe someone else would have some decent suggestions as far as that goes. The dieting part of losing weight can be the easiest and the hardest at the same time. The first thing I would suggest would be to pack your lunches when you go to work/school, you probably don't want to know the number of calories in fast food, but I'm sure you're aware of that. It's a lot easier to control the amount of calories this way. Second, eliminate soda (or at least regular soda, try Coke Zero, amazing...). Try to eliminate or reduce what I call "white things", not milk of course, but sour cream, alfredo sauce, mayo. They're loaded in calories and fat. Definitely eat breakfast, it increases metabolism and imo is the best meal... There's a bunch of other things you could do, but in the end don't do something only because one of us is telling you to do it, do it because you enjoy it and it makes you feel better! Good Luck!
  14. IT EXISTS! i'm so happy right now... and yet so sad to see Camp Randall and realize I'm not going to be there
  15. Can't say I agree with that statement at all, other than the beer is good part. I don't think I've ever had anything I haven't loved, and trust me, I don't have a small sample size. Other good places in Madison (5 years of college will give you a lot of opportunities to get out): Mickie's Dairy Bar (sober, hungover, doesn't matter) Amy's Cafe (go with the spicy fries) Claddagh Irish Pub Johnny's Italian Steakhouse (not cheap, especially for someone in school, but great food when i was there) Ian's Pizza (okay so it's not really a restaurant, but the list involves food, so I nominate Ian's) not my favorite places TGI Friday's (fiance loves the place, to me, meh...) Essen Haus (fiance worked there for 9 months or so, great beer, but food is all overpriced) Tutto Pasta (has a nice ambiance, but it seems like I could make all their dishes in my sleep)
  16. From what I can find Howard got $900,000 in his last year before arbitration, and then the $10,000,000 in his first year of arbitration. (FWIW, the Phillies were offering $7,000,000.
  17. Last fall when I was at my parent's house DirectTV had all of the games on at the same time. Each game would be on a different channel, but when there weren't multiple games going on, there would only be the one channel broadcasting. I'm guessing what the original poster is asking is if Time Warner is going to have the same thing. Since 527 is going to be the BTN HD channel for me, will the other games show up on 525 and/or 526 etc? That's kind of what everyone is wondering right now.
  18. Fear not! They will have it in glorious HD! jsonline doesn't say if they will have multiple channels available when there are multiple games going on at the same time, but I would imagine they would. (please don't prove me wrong...)
  19. until it surfaces that the chinese "women" took HGH or that all 1.6 billion people in china won't be buying products from any one of the corporate sponsors of the games, not a chance. i do believe if the games were being held anywhere but China the IOC or FIG would look into the age thing a little bit more. but you don't want to upset the host country (which also happens to the the most rapid growing economy in the world)... even the olympics are driven by money... sadly...
  20. well, i think it would work out great for the brewers, but i'm pretty sure MLB teams can't trade with japanese teams, actually i'm positive they can't. I'd also expect his posting fee to hit something like $75 million. Condsidering he'll likely get you more than the 6 innings Dice-K gets the red sox on average.
