  1. Patriots are probably going back to the Super Bowl already but tell me again that what the Packers do is okay because winning is hard. Honestly, I love them. Just an incredible franchise and we probably picked the wrong GM when we had a 50% chance to pick the right one.
  2. I don't think being an ass matters or not. Just don't be a dope. But I think Ben Johnson knew exactly what he was doing with that 2x a year comment, he was getting into Matty's head, which seems to be something known around the league, and he did.
  3. It's just a combination of everyone rightfully tired of MLF + Payton winning a game yesterday. If the argument is that he's better than MLF, ok fine. I really don't think he is anything special. It would be hard not to replicate the success he had in N.O. with Drew Brees. And honestly, they missed the playoffs 6 times, went 7-9 for three straight years and played in a single Super Bowl. He gets slob knobbed for some mysterious reason and mostly evades the treatment that a guy like McCarthy gets. He won a Super Bowl 17 years ago and has had an arguably worse, less consistent trajectory than the Packers since then.
  4. No he hasn't. MLF and Rodgers went to 3 of these games. I get that we all want MLF fired but that just isn't true. Lest we forget they were a losing team when MLF took over, too. And they drafted a 1st round QB for Payton. Being better than MLF is a low bar to clear IMO. I'll give anyone that Payton is better. But a huge chunk of his tenure with the Saints is playing good regular season ball and losing to a lower seed in the playoffs. Not sure he even has a Super Bowl if not for Brett Favre. It's textbook recency bias to be back on his jock again. He's a fine coach. I don't think he's this super genius wizard that we are constantly told he is.
  5. Is he? Because he has one Super Bowl and a lot of coming up short in big games. His win % is almost identical to Mike McCarthy.
  6. Broncos fans told me injuries are part of the game when Parsons went down. And Payton is an ******, so, whatever.
  7. You left out half the fans lamenting how it all would have been different if this guy had caught this one pass, so really we know the next year is our year.
  8. Yeah. Pretty much knew this was coming but still so disappointing. Can't wait for at least 3 more years of botched timeouts, blown leads, dumb, emotional challenges. Oh what fun. It honestly feels pointless to follow them next year unless you just like watching without any attachment.
  9. Meh. It's so low energy to just look at W/L on some eternally crappy team and think a guy can't coach because of that. The Ravens owner gave a very transparent presser after firing Harbaugh in which he went on a tangent explaining exactly this as it relates to their coaching search. He was asked what would exclude a candidate and ended up saying he didn't know but that a losing record won't exclude someone. He is specifically paying extra attention to guys who were hot candidates in their cycle, but maybe landed with a difficult job where they didn't end up winning. His point was that he doesn't think Baltimore is a difficult job, he thinks it's the best job, and might be a better fit for those candidates. I think GB would be similar. Flores is a defensive minded coach and he did take Miami from 32nd to 6th from year 1 to year 2. They were 5-11, 10-6, and 9-8 with Tua and Ryan Fitzpatrick. I don't think that's enough of a shake to know whether or not he can be an effective HC. But here is the real kicker for me. Every Packers hire I have lived through besides Mike Sherman was done with the intent that the QB had to developed. Holmgren, McCarthy, LaFleur. That's not a pressing need. I would love to flip the script and get a HC whose emphasis is defense and details.
  10. I was at the Fail Mary game, and believe me, you would not be so forgiving if you were as well.
  11. The remaining NFC field is disgusting. I have hatred for 3/4 and indifference to the Rams.
  12. I don't think this is too shocking, McCarthy is a good coach. His time had run out in GB, but I never thought he was a bad coach. He was no longer the right guy for the storyline they were in.
  13. Not that the Packers give a rat's ass but the amount of attention I pay to next season is completely dependent on who the HC is. I am not signing up for 3 hours a week of MLF.
  14. I am not sure why they signed Hobbs tbh. Stokes had a quietly adequate year and they let him walk for a $3.5 million 1-year deal while knowing Jaire was out, and then signed a frequently injured guy who was apparently "more physical at the line" but about the same level of player. It made no sense to me at the time. Going into the season with the corners they had was the absolute worst thing Gute did last summer IMO.
  15. They can essentially cut both of those guys this year if they want to with minimal consequence. He should have just signed Stokes to the same deal he got elsewhere though. They both sucked but I don't see many giving him a pass, it's probably the first thing people point out about his last offseason, which was awful and face was saved by getting Parsons, who fell into their lap with a deal anybody would have made. A certain poster will disagree, but I believe consensus is generally that the game management snafus have been more frequent and more disastrous than any FO failures in the last handful of years, and that talent generally hasn't been the issue. Even with this OL which was not very good this year, they were solidly positioned to win a bunch of games they lost.
  16. If I could have my pick of the litter I would go after Brian Flores. Belichick tree, won't have a tolerance for sloppiness that has plagued ST, defensive-minded, hungry for the opportunity.
  17. That's gonna be a no from me, dawg.
  18. Pretty bad team all year and there's an argument that prior to Rodgers they had the worst QB play in the league for about the last seven seasons. The exit was bad but I thought it was a fairly dignified exit for Rodgers after the Jets, leading a bad team to a division title and proving he definitely could still play.
  19. At least the take that the negotiating is a ruse is gaining steam and actually being floated as a possibility, so I can still dream that this loser isn't coaching my favorite team next year.
  20. Probably the only time in my Wisconsin sports fandom where I actually have no fear of the guy leaving and dunking on us with his new team. In fact I hope we get to play him.
  21. I enjoy making jokes about Bisaccia but my technical brain can't help but believe this guy is in the league because he has a great reputation for a reason. I don't think the Packers roster ST appropriately. Bo Melton is a roster spot that some other teams use on a specific ST ace that they go out and find specially for that purpose. And our OL couldn't run block worth a lick this year anyway so it doesn't surprise me the backups can't execute a punt without a hold or allow a few kicks to get blocked. I don't think they roster anyone with the intention that they will be a good ST player. They only worry about the 30 or so guys who will see the field on offense or defense and their reserves. The TLDR is that I don't think another coordinator is the solve.
  22. Yeah... We had a looooot go our way in that game. It made it that much worse. We dodged a lot of the typical Packerisms and it was like it wasn't enough, we had to keep going to the well until we were sure we lost. The more I think about it, retaining MLF is emblematic of a lot about this team. It's a fair assessment that firing him is risky. But it is so apparent to me they absolutely won't win it with him. Keeping him on is essentially saying "We'll make the playoffs, and I like our chances to win a game there, sure we are likely to melt down in humiliating fashion but we won't finish 7-10." They are afraid to get it wrong and have a losing season that makes them look bad. They're afraid to be vulnerable and really go for it, so they are, like usual, opting for the safe path with the smallest reward.
  23. That precisely why this extension talk is such a puzzle. I think it's bonkers to extend this guy right now even if he isn't fired. If I were him I'd be happy just not being fired and coaching for my job next year. I'd fire him, but not doing so is understandable. Extending him is insane, IMO. I do think at least playing in an NFCCG - without Aaron Rodgers - has to be the bar for MLF for clear. Setting the bar at "win the SB" is too luck dependent.
  24. Not be successful. Win the Super Bowl. It is asking a lot of a first-year coach to implement his stuff and culture and that the team immediately wins the Super Bowl, because that would be the point of firing LaFleur. Losing the WC or DV is not going to be seen as successful. Point was that the Packers likely believe internally that it is more likely they reach SB sticking with what has at least gotten them to the playoffs, than they are starting from scratch. That is the Catch 22 of firing a coach who has "won a bunch of games." It is easy to fire someone who went 7-10. It takes cajones to do it when you are coming off what realistically would have been back-to-back at least 11-win seasons we were headed for before all those injuries. (We punted the last game of the year in consecutive seasons, our QB was concussed, etc.). Comping other sports especially CFB just isn't the same at all. It can be done in the NFL, yes, I believe Gruden did it in TB. But it's asking a lot and is risky from their perspective.
  25. This feels like the twilight zone. I can't fathom multiple execs thinking this guy is worth $10 million a year.
