  1. There's an argument to be made that team was another Packer team that blew a really good shot to win a championship. They led Dallas in the 4th and would have easily won the Super Bowl. I remember the NFCCG being horribly officiated.
  2. This season I did feel like they were frauds. They've had a couple teams over the years that were actually pretty good, but they seem to have something go wrong at an inopportune time. The '07 team that lost to the Giants was good, the '14 team that lost to the Packers was also really good. In '16, they probably would have put up a much better game against Atlanta than the Packers did...but Rodgers threw that insane pass to Cook and then Mason hit the game winner. They seem to be on the losing end of a ton of really close games.
  3. The number I keep seeing around Twitter is that most coaches won't do that unless they have 16 seconds. There are however a few examples of doing it with less time, with the caveat that that it's almost always to kick a FG that they can't from the original spot.
  4. This happened, and happens with just about every one of these kinds of plays.
  5. I've spent a lot of time defending MM as a coach but I've come to around believing that they were lucky in 2010 and a competent coach probably would have had them winning at least 12 games that season. What he did after that season, with better teams, is more telling about what kind of game manager he actually is.
  6. My nightmare scenario for this game is really a ST disaster that breaks it wide open. We're down 7-0 and muff a punt at the 10, etc. If the Packers come out really sluggish and we see the GB ST greatest hits, it can unravel if they're just pinned back waiting for Rodgers the entire game. I'd be fine with a game plan that's "we don't field punts today."
  7. If the photo is the game I think it was ('95 Divisional) I remember it like it was yesterday. I was 8 years old and my family watched it from a hotel in GB. We went to the HOF the day before. I think we were a 10-point underdog and went up 21-0. That play pictured was one of the first ones of the game on a screen to #27. Think it ended up 27-17 but really was a beat down. It was a bit of a changing of the guard in the NFC; Dallas won the SB but after that season neither DAL or SF got back for a while. We knocked SF out 3 straight seasons before the fumble game.
  8. Yet it somehow feels justified. McCarthy mostly won in GB, goes to Dallas, his QB goes on IR in year one and then they go 12-5. Without context firing him sounds ridiculous, but the guy is just so bad at situational football that it feels totally correct to get rid of him. I think he has a role as a coach in the NFL. I just don't think it's as a head coach.
  9. They may be 10-7 but they are 9-3 after that 4-game skid. They're a good team, but one dimensional, and not nearly as potent at what they do well as their recent teams. I get the trepidation with what the Packers do in the playoffs, but 50/50? C'mon. Without what happened two years ago I don't think anyone would be that worried about this game. I think the Packers defensives woes are vastly overstated too. They got sloppy down the stretch a bit, but they also had a really strong stretch prior to that. With a lot of guys back and rested I think they'll be OK. And I think the Packers will be able to get their own ground game going just fine.
  10. They are nowhere near as good at doing either of those things as they were in 2019.
  11. It's risky but there's a decent record of teams doing it with 14 seconds or fewer. The Lions did it in 10, spiked it and kicked a winning field goal. At the point Dak goes down, it looked like they'd get the play off, even Romo was saying "this is gonna work." Their offense seemed unaware that the official had to spot the ball. If they'd gotten him the ball immediately as they should have, they probably do get the spike off.
  12. This 49ers over Packers hype is based on a game from 2 season ago where the Packers were substantially worse and the 49ers were substantially better. And playing on the road. I'm sure it'll be a decent game but I feel pretty good about the Packers taking it by double digits. If they get hammered into the ground again by the run, so be it. Just tells me they were a fluff ball doomed to implode anyway.
  13. I have 0 concern. Nobody outside of the Nets has any chance beating the Bucks in the East playoffs. And the Warriors, while a really good team, have a huge matchup issue with Giannis. I think the odds of a Finals rematch are pretty solid. The Bulls and Heat are cute regular season teams that will be fortunate taking them to 6.
  14. I think most would take the 2 shots from farther out but realistically the first attempt is fairly likely to get picked off. If they had a timeout I'd definitely want to get closer first. With the way that play unfolded and the time left when he went down, it did actually look possible to run another play. But they just looked completely out of sorts trying to get up and get the snap off. McCarthy is always trying to be some grandmaster of genius and do things differently. I think he's going to be given one more season and then fall from grace and work as a position coach if at all. He did always seem fairly good at keeping a team together through adversity. But he just cannot manage a game to save his life.
  15. I mean it is about a 50- or 55-yard throw into the end zone from the 41. I see why they wanted to run a more realistic play from closer in. But Dak has to get down maybe a little earlier and then get the ball to the ref. They all lined up way forward of where he began to slide too. That official was hustling to get a play off, the players didn't know what they were doing. They were basically at the limit of being able to try that and get one more snap, and it could have worked, but it looked as if nobody talked about what everyone had to do right after the play. And then they spiked the ball at 0. That whole play would have been illegal anyway but they didn't even have time to spike it.
  16. Saturday 3:30: CIN@TEN 7:15: SF@GB Sunday 2:00: LAR/AZ @ TB 5:30: BUF@KC Packers get Buck and Aikman.
  17. I'm fine with embarrassing the Steelers.
  18. Well, it's a 2 v 7. The 2 should win. Last year, Indy very nearly took out Buffalo in that game. I don't think one season where 7 stomps 2 in both conferences is some big condemnation of the format. It just sounds like an overreaction to a weekend mostly filled with bad games. The two close games were pretty bad until the way end. NE didn't even show up. I like it though. I'll never complain about getting 6 games WC weekend; this year they just weren't very good. And I maintain that I like having the best record meaning you're the only team with a week off.
  19. I think that's a monumental stretch. It's not little league here. It's another week where anybody can pull a hammy. I don't think that's a small thing at all.
  20. I think bad games are more random than due to any format we may or may not like. The only real change is that 2 plays 7 rather than getting a week off. The other games are what they'd have been anyway. It's not the format that caused NE to lose by 40. I like the change. Getting the top seed is more valuable. As far as which game was at night, I would imagine NBC didn't have the broadcast rights. I'm no expert but I'm pretty certain networks get a set number of teams/games to "claim" in their contracts. CBS probably had dibs on SF/DAL (or what was deemed the NFC marquee for WC weekend) so once that was out, the viewing audiences of these two are definitely the ones a network would want against any other game this weekend.
  21. I like the chances of the Rams knocking off Tampa a lot more than I liked Dallas to do it. Assuming the Rams win tomorrow which I think they will.
  22. Out for the season doesn't mean what it used to.
  23. Yeah it was basically 2 shots to the end zone at that point. Or one small gain and then a slightly shorter single shot. I don't think taking one more play to get closer was the dumbest move ever but you probably should just go to the end zone twice there.
  24. I didn't really hate the decision to take off running but he's gotta have awareness of the seconds where he has to slide or immediately head for the sidelines. It's not the time to fight for an extra yard. I actually thought SF was going to be flagged for hitting him on the slide.
  25. If you are dreading the Packers playing SF in Lambeau in late January, you don't think the Packers are all that good. Could SF beat them, yeah. Sure. So could the Rams, so can the Bucs. We have to beat someone good anyway. I'd rather play Saturday.
