  1. Pretty sure no one has positively responded to "says the guy who" condescension either. Don't talk tough and expect people not call you out. You spent 3 pages arguing with nobody that the Packers aren't going to win the Super Bowl, all but declaring the season over because the gap with SF is too large. Teams get kicked around all the time, the Saints just got kicked around by Atlanta. I'll enjoy a return to the playoffs and hope they can find a new level in the next month. I'd feel pretty good about them not losing to SF by 30 if they get another chance. The Packers were eliminated twice by Giants teams twice that they beat, one of them that they completely blew out. This stuff happens. I'm not promising a Packers win but it happens. I don't really care what the Packers have or haven't done for 20 years. I'm not going to pin futility from 2011-2018 on a 2nd year GM and first-year coach. They deserve the same clean slate as anybody anywhere. If we're still plateauing at 10-6 two years from now then yes, I'll entertain the "Packers wasted Rodgers" thing again. They took over a descending team with a mess of a roster and have it going the right direction. For now, that's all I can reasonably ask. I'm not going to look at what the team did or didn't do 20 years ago and apply it to this year.
  2. But replay bad. We must have human error in game! Yeah. Make tripping reviewable. Holding too while we're at it. That'll make this all too exciting to handle, I don't know if my heart will be able to take it at that point. Nothing says excitement like merging the minutiae of a jury trial with football.
  3. I'm with you there, the problem is, the resources thrown at the defense have more or less worked and it's still pretty bad. The two big guys have done more than what they were brought in to do. Amos is fine. I think Pettine deserves a look this offseason. He has been all hype and no performance for two seasons. I haven't seen any real improvement there other than their free agents getting to the QB which has very little to do with the coaching. It's just studs being studs. I don't know why he's been revered in GB. They haven't done anything. In the past, the line has been that there is individual talent and the defense is bad as a group. I didn't buy that and thought the talent was lacking and exaggerated by fans. There is enough talent though, now, that it should be a good defense. And it's not. They badly need an athlete at the second level and a cover guy. Kevin King is a 6'3 corner who runs a 4.4 and somehow can't stick with a tight end in space.
  4. I mean, I agree with that, but I genuinely don't think this is that team, and really haven't all year. I thought 9-7 or 10-6 would be a marked improvement, and they are playing a bit over that. I am just taken aback by people angry over coping with the idea that they may not be in the Super Bowl. I just think some need to step back and look at where the franchise is. They are coming off back-to-back 6-7 win seasons, and the two seasons prior to that, it's really hard to say they weren't the same team riding one dude's magic carpet. They were 10-6 and backing into the playoffs by way of miracles or crappy divisions. This team is realistically 5 years removed from being a contender. The 2016 season got them a game from the Super Bowl but it 98% Rodgers being the MVP. Defense was horrible and they had to run the table and pull off a bunch of miraculous stuff to get there. It's a team that was poorly run for most of like eight years and we expect a coach and GM to come in and right the ship in a year? It's just not going to happen. They deserve a ton of credit just for getting the culture back to where it needs to be this quickly. If we're still here two years from now then yeah, I'm on board with the lynch mob. But it's just not MLF and BK's fault that they let TT hang around too long or that Rodgers is in the twilight of this career. Judging them based on just what they've done, they've both been really good.
  5. It's a different set of guys. The guys doing it now are only reasonably on the hook for the 18 months or so. I think there is a middle ground between the Packers are winning the Super Bowl and they are a paper tiger. It's totally unreasonable to expect a fixed defense and a juggernaut offense in one offseason under a rookie coach. I do think there is a lot of merit to Ted Thompson running them into the ground. Even his championship season, they were 10-6 and barely made the playoffs. But this is BK's show and he's done a nice job getting them back into contention. Sure he's going to miss some picks like anybody else but they are trending in the right direction. If people are impatient because of Rodgers' age it's understandable. I see a lot of hypocrisy from the fans though. For a decade the refrain has been to get Rodgers a defense. Their defense isn't great, but they spent there and do have some legitimate rushers. There's an opportunity cost there, you can't fix everything at once...and this team was BAD last year.
  6. Stop pouting and people won't do that. I know you're the only one sulking because the Packers got their clock cleaned and acting like the season is over. You spent the night arguing this straw man that the Packers aren't going to win the Super Bowl. Something I think a very small minority of people think they will do this year.
  7. Fair, but the Rodgers we have now is on the undesirable side of 35. I think the erosion of his skills is more responsible for the Packers recent performance than we all may have thought. The Favre Packers also missed the playoffs a couple times when he was no longer that one-man wrecking crew. I am not saying Rodgers isn't a good QB, but he misses way more than he used to. That throw to MVS is a touchdown four years ago. So many balls are chucked over guys heads than we used to see. There was a pundit who dissected his last few seasons this summer and people basically brushed it under the rug. The magical throws used to be every week and they are more like every month now. The team has bigger problems and I don't think he is why we lost last night, but I don't think he's good enough to mask them at this point.
  8. Says the guy who predicted a win and resulting #1 seed for us tonight and now you're saying we were never really that good. Of course I didn't expect a juggernaut in the top tier of teams coming into this season. As the season progressed, however, expectations change. As it did for many of you as well. I mean, come on, many people here were talking about us as Super Bowl contenders the last few weeks and prior to the Charger game and now that we've gotten stomped in San Francisco the narrative has changed back to "well we were never going to be a contender this year anyway." Easy to say now, even though it's a lot more obvious than it was 4 hours ago. Of course I'm disappointed that the team I thougt yesterday had a chance to play for a Super Bowl (and many of us did, if you're honest) looks now to be a team that is still a ways away. Back it up. I never predicted a one seed for the Packers. I liked their chances to win but didn't foresee this laying down. I simply thought SF was kinda in the same place the Packers were. Grow up a bit. Your hissy fit over their performance is getting silly.
  9. The division is a good goal. There's a good chance that means a third game at home with Minnesota and then a trip back West if you win. I'd have no complaints about that season.
  10. They're a 10-6 team most years that got lucky at some opportune times and did really get a win over Detroit they didn't deserve. They're 7-4 with that loss which seems right about where they should be. You just seem overly dramatic about this to me. I don't get the paper tiger or no reason for optimism comments. It'd make sense if we were the Patriots but no one expected this team to be a juggernaut. They're a playoff team probably on the lower end of the top 1/3 of the league. It's totally reasonable for a mostly very young team with a rookie coach to lay total duds like this in a development year. It would be nearly unprecedented for them to be in the tier of teams you seem to think they should be in.
  11. What's amazing is that it's definitely possible for the Packers to be 13-3.
  12. I think they are trying plenty to be urgent and simply can't do it.
  13. My thought on Thompson has always been that he mistook some of his luck early on for thinking you can build a contender that way every year. They won the title with guys like Shields and Starks playing huge roles and this reinforced his belief that he could do that all the time. He didn't need to sign any needs because he could find them as street FA after the draft. Basically he was able to draft and develop so quickly that he got overconfident. If it had taken them longer to win the Super Bowl I don't think he would have been so stuck in his ways.
  14. They need a better athlete in the middle of the field and one more cover guy. Any random vet WR who can run would do wonders.
  15. King played that about as poorly as one can.
  16. Clock is not really a factor at this point. They needed to score even if it took 10 minutes. They can't afford to give up any more points anyway. They need a lot more to go right than scoring their first TD fast.
  17. Good for you that you can maintain a positive outlook, and I don't mean that sarcastically. I just see too many holes. They just don't have the skill players on offense to be able to beat top defenses like the 49ers and Saints. They have probably the worst special teams unit I've ever seen as a Packer fan. All of that could perhaps be overcome if they had an elite defense, but they don't have one, not even close. I see probably a 6-4 quality team that has won almost all close games against almost all average opponents. They'll almost certainly be a playoff team, but I'm not expecting much. I can't buy into the 2010 comparisons. That team certainly was written off too as you said, but that team was in every single game it played all season long. They never had a game where they looked like they didn't belong. I think the positive outlook stems from the fact that even if they were 6-4 that would be an improvement over the absolute boredom that has been the last 2 seasons. Why would anyone expect the Packers to be a top 4 team this year? It was a bad team that signed three solid FA names (which is basically a typical offseason for any team not run by Ted Thompson) under a first-year coach. I think the NFCCG is a ridiculous standard for calling this a successful season. It's successful if they go 10-6 and lose in the WC. It would be they overachieved in the first half and came back down to earth. I think this team is a good comp with the 2009 team, developmentally. They're not good in the same areas, but they're an ascending team just not quite there yet.
  18. IDK who 27 is but he runs like the fat version of Eddie Lacy.
  19. OK, punting out of their end zone for once. Let's get 7 and make this a game.
  20. Minnesota has been putting up some nice offensive games all without Thielen for quite some time. That offense is light years ahead of ours. I tend to think the defense is better than ours too, the one weakness is Cousins can be pretty average at the wrong time. I don't think SF is that much better though. Better, yeah they could be. But not 38-0 better. I think it's becoming clear though the Packers are not a big-play offense built for playing from behind.
  21. I feel like this game could have been different if they did not open it by fumbling at the 2. Came out flat and stayed flat. They had a similar showing the season opener against Seattle back in 2014, and it led everyone to thinking they couldn't hang with them. Of course they did hang with them, and then, well we all know the rest. But the defense was playing well early on and getting good pressure, you just can't leave them on the field 85% of the first half.
  22. I think we're a divisional round team, kinda what I thought most of the year. I liked us in this one because I also didn't think SF was much better, but wow, did we lay an egg. I think Minnesota is the best in the division, by way of vastly better weapons on offense, and still like the Saints. The offense needs a WR, the talent is just not there for a midseason evolution. And I'll eat my words on this one: They should have kept Randall Cobb for $5 million.
  23. They haven't made it to the playoffs for three years so that (still possible) outcome would be pretty impressive. I think a first round game with Minnesota is very likely, just a matter of where the game is.
  24. Oof. Time to get extra sleep.
