  1. I disagree. We are getting a known commodity that has produced at an above average level. Burnes was absolute garbage last year. He’s obviously still got a high ceiling still, but we’d be trading a what if and potential for a known producer with less control left. It would hurt, as I like Burnes, but I think it would still be a good deal. We are, but it's a defensively liability catcher. It's a bat that's available every offseason. SP is so much harder to come by for MKE. Everyone knows he was garbage last year, but he was such hot garbage that it makes me more inclined to think something was going on and he can get past it. He's looked too good to write off already imo.
  2. I just can't see Burnes. A young, controllable SP who had a season so bad it'd be hard to replicate, so recently removed from playing really good baseball. The Brewers can't afford to give up on a guy like that so soon. That would really surprise me.
  3. Seattle is in huge need of pitching. I'm going to guess Corbin Burnes or Freddy Peralta. Perhaps Small, Ashby or Rasmussen. The return is gonna sting a little. I'll be pretty surprised if the Brewers send Burnes anywhere. I think there's too much there to give up just yet.
  4. Give me the 30 HR catcher over someone that hits .220 and has a "good reputation for defense." Call me simple if you must. I'm taking the hitter every time. I don't mean to downplay the defense but I'll wait to see this guy be a total butcher in MKE before I condemn him. I'm ecstatic waking up to this.
  5. The market value is being established. There is no way the Brewers get involved in that. They will sign a couple guys once it settles down and there is value in some guys that feel wronged, and guys that want shorter deals to prove themselves. Then there are the older guys who cost less and don't expect long deals. I've really got no interest in the Brewers signing SPs to 6-year contracts, even if it's Sidd Finch. There is just way too much downside there for me.
  6. I heard Gerrit Cole checked out the Domes in September and loved it so much he's taking a 50% MKE discount.
  7. This is actually the kind of contract I expected the Brewers to shoot for. Maybe a tad high, but not by much. My guess was just that they'd sign a good SP who's in the tier below what the cream of the crop is getting. I have no idea what I'm talking about though, just a suspicion they are going to sign a legit SP this offseason based on clearing money from position players.
  8. IMO people are really overstating what has gone out the door. Grandal is the only guy that's irreplaceable. We will be much worse at catcher. The rest are just guys. Moose played hard for the Brewers and was great to have, his production can be replaced with competence and some luck. There is going to be so much new blood on this roster there is just absolutely no point in getting worked up over it yet.
  9. Idk, Thor was left off flying through space with the Guardians and Captain Marvel is all over the place. She only recently got involved with earth, so I didn't find either of those excuses particularly weak. I assume Thor will be a big piece in the new Guardians film. I'm also not sure your solution would work. In the first Spiderman, the villain is pretty lame. He has to be because Spiderman isn't very good yet. But to go from Thanos to some lame villain in FFH doesn't really work for me.
  10. If you're Seattle why do you waste your 3rd timeout on preventing delay of game on 3rd and 19? That was also a huge missed EP.
  11. Packers effectively get a 2-game lead with 4 left if this holds. I have a feeling they won't quite clinch early but will control their own destiny and have to beat Detroit to win it.
  12. TIL if your payroll doesn't rise at least 5% a year you're cutting payroll.
  13. I find this oddly sad even though I wasn't fond of giving him a multi-year deal. I just liked the guy.
  14. It's plausible the Vikings don't lose again so in that respect, yes a Seattle win is better. Since I don't think the Packers are super fantastic in the first place though, I'd be fine with Seattle losing and keeping the dream of HFA alive. That puts Seattle and SF with 3 and 2 losses, the latter still having to play the Saints and they finish the year with each other. If the Packers win out, they will get a bye. I feel pretty assured of that. I'm not as convinced the West champ will win 13 games. I could easily see a scenario where Seattle goes into the final game with 4 losses and beats SF. Conversely, the 49ers could beat the Saints and eventually lead to them losing one of the byes. Besides Seattle playing Arizona, there are really no crappy teams on the schedule for either of them. I don't think the Packers win out either, even the rematches with CHI and DET don't strike me as easy wins, but I still see a path toward a bye which would be cool.
  15. I didn't see it but it scored much higher with critics than audiences IIRC. I saw Frozen 2 and Neighborhood last week. I liked both, though I think Neighborhood is being overrated quite a bit. Some really hokey stuff in there, but Hanks put together a really great performance. Hoping to see Knives Out this week.
  16. Tonight's game is a little weird. If you think the Packers can beat Minnesota, it might be good for Seattle to get a loss now. I think most of us prioritize getting the division as easily and quickly as possible, but Minnesota winning tonight isn't the worst thing in the world.
  17. I don't think playing the universally accepted top team in the country competitively in the conference championship game as opposed to losing by 30 is a small detail, especially when there is very little if any separation between PSU and UW. Do I think they have their own criteria for picking teams they'll never publicly admit? Do I think even if they think UW is better there's a chance they'd still pick PSU? Yes to both.
  18. I agree with that, and that's why I think this is stupid. If they had to pick right now UW has a better case in my opinion, but losing to OSU won't help. What if the championship game is competitive in the 4th quarter? I can't see how that doesn't help them vs. losing 42-6. I don't think PSU getting the Rose would be worthy of pitchforks or anything but I don't think there's a definitive argument that can be made for them.
  19. OK? My point was that's an extremely small number of teams. And that it isn't like signing Michael Jordan. You can sign old fan favorites to pinch hit or play 18 minutes in the NBA, it may not even be a bad move for your team even if you primarily want to sell tickets.
  20. Think he is most valuable in the role they used him in last year.
  21. Steelers were one I thought of too, but not sure what the difference would be between Ben and Brady. He just signed an extension there too. If he's so beat up now that he can't play, then maybe there's a way they work that out.
  22. I don't think it's like that at all. You can pass off Michael Jordan at 40 as your 3rd guy off the bench. Brett Favre was coming off a great 2007 season and there were not many suitors for him. He was five years younger than Brady and playing a lot better at the time. It's never apples to apples and maybe he had some baggage, but once a team has a good QB or even a young QB they believe in, they don't really have much interest in geezers trying to win another championship. Because if they don't win or they aren't good, you've really set yourself backwards. Like I said, the Jaguars or Buccaneers might be happy to have him on the roster but I don't think he's signing up for that. You have realistically 3 or so places that work. I also don't think Brady would just quit if he actually wants to play. There were a lot of leaks prior to the extension in August that he was mentally preparing to be somewhere else in 2020. Maybe the Bears, but I wouldn't put it past him to go to Miami or something just to get shots at NE. These guys are extremely prideful. And that's definitely one . of the clubs I could see just wanting to have him on the team.
  23. That's another interesting part of it. Would anyone actually want 43 y/o Brady? I'm sure Jacksonville or something would take him, but I doubt he's signing up for that. It would have to be a team pretty much only missing a QB. I can't think of anybody.
  24. Belichick didn't want to trade Garoppolo, he clearly saw the slippage and knew he would be better off with Jimmy right around now. I'm guessing his plan was to run with Jimmy next season, but once they traded him they were all but forced into extending Brady. It's going to be interesting to see what happens because Brady clearly doesn't want to be done playing and Belichick is not going to sit idle with that level of play from the QB.
