  1. Knebel was crushing but Josh Hader needs a reliable second pitch. I don't think the ball is going to get unjuiced. The best hitters are just waiting for one of his meat balls and sending them into space. His control isn't good enough to get by with one pitch. If he doesn't develop something, his HR problem is going to get worse.
  2. Woodruff was gassing. He did what they needed. It was every move after that which was problematic.
  3. Suter is probably best in the role he is in now. Honestly the best realistic thing that can happen to this staff is that Knebel can still play at the level he did. Things would seem to be in his favor, TJ not being the death sentence it once was, and that he got injured in March and not August. I've made my stance on Josh Hader clear but I know that won't happen, so the best thing would be Knebel coming back and putting Hader back where he was. Then you could probably still have success with a patchwork bottom of the rotation.
  4. I don't know why Hader would get a pass. He was awful. He alone blew a shot at the division and last night's game. The Grisham thing is nothing but a joke. That's people wanting to blame an unestablished injury fill-in because if they don't they have to place the loss at the feet of a fan favorite and maybe consider that he might have a real control problem. Grisham is just a guy at this point and it's really easy to cast him out. Say what you want about Hader's season but his week was horrific. And about 1/3 of fans wanted him nowhere near the 9th inning. When something is that clear and the manager doesn't pick up on it he can take some of the blame too. It wouldn't have been surprising at all to keep Hader away from 8/9 last night and we had to do the "this is our closer" thing anyway.
  5. I'd cool it on the Lyles train. He's probably just a guy that got hot for a good stretch but penciling him in as a SP seems less than ideal. I hope there is something big coming this offseason, whether it's a trade or FA because this team is going to have so many holes with the impending departures.
  6. That's really just a function of playing so many games. Get a franchise QB and you are probably a playoff team for 7/10 years. In baseball you can have the MVP and win 75 games. It is by far the hardest sport to sustain success if you have budget constraints.
  7. It's not as simple as qualification rate. Football is so many fewer games and so much more dictated by one guy that if you have a top QB you are usually good to make it over and over and over. Baseball is much more of a grind and has far more working parts that all have to be consistently good to do that. You can't get lucky (as often) to win 90-95 the way there are always fluke 10-12 win teams.
  8. Same way I feel. Have no idea how anyone can equate a Wild Card loss with a win-or-go home shot at the World Series. There’s no comparison. House money to even get in the playoffs with everything that went sideways this year, honestly. Which is why I feel strangely fine about 2020, though the weaknesses of the structure of the offense need to be addressed. The stakes were obviously much higher, but the Brewers went down 3-2 in that series and down 5-1 in G7. You had time to digest it. Not tonight, when I was checking the start times of the series with LA minutes before we imploded again.
  9. Hard to consider the season a success in a vacuum. Everyone wanted to build on last year and they didn't. They're just older and worse now, by just about any measure. An impressive run to make a go of it in the end, but losing a play in game is not what I hoped to get from 2019. Feel worse about 2020 than I did about 2019 last winter, too. 2011 will be the year I look back on and shake my head 30 years from now. Sure feels that way.
  10. I can't even think about next year. Probably losing 66% of tonight's run support. I always vanish from here for a good couple months. I was so ready to be at Miller Park this weekend. This is worse than last year for me. At least that one was a slow let down we had half a game to digest.
  11. Never would give Pom three innings, but somewhere on page 4 I said I would have used Hader for 2 or possibly 3 as the first man up, assuming Woodruff gave us a few. I would've gone Suter after that and play matchups as needed and left Pom for the 9th. He had shown far better control than Hader lately. Maybe they lose anyway but that would've been my plan.
  12. I honestly can't believe they lost. It feels surreal, almost like the 2014 NFC championship. Nothing but NLDS thoughts for 2h45m and just like a train came through and the season is over. Unbelievable and becoming normal for all things WI.
  13. The manager doesn't throw the pitches. But sure, not Counsell's best game. Think he might have been in the clubhouse already when Arcia hit in the 9th.
  14. When you strike out half your batters and give up 15 home runs in 75 innings you're the definition of feast or famine. He is Russell Branyan as a pitcher.
  15. Hader is a more highly touted prospect than both but it became obvious he isn't a good closer and CC insisted. In a do or die game like this I don't know for the life of me why he had to pigeonhole him into that role. I can justify it over an entire season using him in the spot to get the most wins but there was no way in hell I would have used him like that tonight after the episode in Colorado, against the meat of the order in a 2-run game, as much as he's struggled to keep the ball in the park. Like I said, the result of Hader's appearance tonight was comically predictable, he should've entered that game in the 6th and his ass should have been on the bench with one guy on base. Something wasn't right for the last week and everyone could tell except the guy making the decisions.
  16. Nobody is acting cranky except you. The flak you are getting is for good reason. No it's not. I'm saying what isn't comfortable to admit, that one of our key pieces is definitely not OK, and that's something people really hate being honest about. 15 HR in 75 innings, and a massive control problem masked by Ks. Hader isn't OK, and I would love to trade him while it's still possible because I genuinely believe this is your last chance. That's never going to happen, but I'm over the guy. How predictable the end of that game was is beyond troubling.
  17. Grisham. All I can say is Lmao. He could have tossed the 4th run out at home and there is no way the Brewers win. That was over when wild Josh came in and Craig was asleep at the wheel.
  18. Take not allowed. Hader is totally fine. Why isn't it allowed. You've posted it many, many times over. And I've got like six people acting real cranky about it. 15HR/75IP...yeah he's fine. And he didn't need to give one up tonight to blow the season.
  19. So thanks for the warning that you'll have a new dead horse to beat next season I guess. What was the first dead horse? You have a real problem with me I've noticed, which is odd because I literally don't remember interacting with you at all.
  20. You just keep doubling and tripling down on this horrible take. I'm going to chalk it up to the emotion of the IGT and this terrible loss. I'm sure you'll eventually realize how bad this take actually sounds. Derrick Turnbow? LOL sure You're not really this sage guy you think you are. You were #1 "Jeffress is giving up cheap hits, he's fine" guy. When Hader finishes the Brewers reliever life cycle and sucks next year you'll wish they'd gotten rid of him this winter.
  21. Can't have it both ways. Hader is here to stay like it or not. I'm aware and I don't like it, much like I didn't want him pitching the closer role in this game because he's wildly ineffective at doing so. I said I would have wanted him as my first guy out of the pen in this very thread. I was very confident in him doing this crap again. But call that a crap take if it makes you feel better about our savior trashing our season in consecutive appearances.
  22. Thank you. His "take the league by storm" period has passed. He will be an utterly unreliable heart attack from here on out. I pass. If we're smart we should absolutely get rid of him now. For what? He sucks, right? Yes, and in June everyone will think so, but right now you can still dupe somebody. Or you can wait until you have Derrick Turnbow.
  23. Yeah, he choked it away. It happens. You are saying Hader is done. That is just an astoundingly bad, wrong take. Sure. Just like it was with Jeffress. Who was totally, absolutely fine and just unlucky. Where is he playing now?
  24. Thank you. His "take the league by storm" period has passed. He will be an utterly unreliable heart attack from here on out. I pass. If we're smart we should absolutely get rid of him now.
