  1. Not putting this one on ice just yet. We can score on this staff.
  2. The Brewers need to just win. Put the Cubs out of mind. They would have to go on a pretty sick tear to win the division regardless. There is no sense worrying about them. Shoot for 87-88 and you're probably a wild card. If better than that you may catch them. They come into town next week anyway.
  3. Chacin's had a bad year but his last three starts were all fine/good. There was no reason not to "trot him out there" tonight.
  4. The Brewers have like 65 games left or something. I couldn't care less about the Cubs day-to-day activities. The Brewers need to play to the capability of the offense and get a bullpen going.
  5. With how easy it is to access and how much quality information is out there among the useless information, there's no chance it's not happening. At a minimum, grunts are stealing other people's ideas without attribution. Wasn't there a blogger that named Jeremy Lin the best guard in the draft a year before Linsanity and he had some formula he used to deduce it? Lin didn't become a HOFer but still, those people are out there and if it's solid info you can bet people are stealing it. Interesting semi-related note, my brother is a baseball fan and software developer. He got an interview with the Brewers this past offseason. Didn't get the job, but the hiring manager was a former college player the Brewers drafted, but he didn't pan out. I believe he was a pitcher. In the interview my brother asked for an example or a project the team recently used. The guy responded saying he would love to share, but they don't like to talk about the things they work on - so the job would've been directly involved with personnel decisions. Gives you a bit of an idea as to how they work. On another tangent, I used to work as a reporter. In college I ran sports for the newspaper. Probably 7-10 times I was called in to meet with the AD or a coach over something I had written that they didn't like. I'm not kidding - in every single one of those meetings, they would start off with some variation of "We don't read the paper, but we caught wind of..." By the third time I would just laugh inside. Yeah, sure you don't.
  6. Chacin has looked good his last several starts. 2.45 ERA in his two July starts, 3.92 if you include the last 4, the first of which was not very good. BAA is also trending down precipitously.
  7. Obviously, there are a bunch of difference between that team and this one. But when you have 60+ games left there is a whole lot that can change.
  8. Any of those teams like Cincinnati have much greater chances with one 8-game winning streak or something. Not common occurrences, but within the realm of pretty possible baseball weirdness.
  9. I meant of being good bets to get in. You can't even sleep on Colorado at this point. Cincy probably isn't good enough, but it could happen. Safe to say at least one of the lower tier teams will give it a run and one of the upper tier teams will collapse. Hopefully we just cleansed our system of our worst baseball.
  10. The only teams in are Atlanta and LA. Atlanta barring a historic meltdown. Nobody else is assured of anything, including the Cubs.
  11. If the season ended today the Brewers are WC2. Just sounds unbelievable with how blah things have been. I admittedly hadn't been paying any mind to the WC until very recently. It's an absolute cluster of basically the entire NL besides like two teams. Also, not that anyone forgot last year's finish, but the Brewers were in 3rd place on September 1. They were 3.5 back on September 18.
  12. I would guess that a disproportionate number of people getting caught with a gun in security don't actually have a license.
  13. You're one guy. Even if most CCs do as you do, which I would guess, there will always be those who don't.
  14. Hiura is ridiculous. All that hype about him being a Braun-level hitter upon call-up might have been warranted.
  15. IDK, last year's finish was pretty magical. 2008 was cathartic for ending an embarrassing streak.
  16. Not quite related but airport security really aggravates me and I travel quite a bit. The rules are not consistent anywhere. Take your shoes off here, but not here, I'm gonna scold you for leaving your wallet in your pocket even though the last city said don't take it out. Stroller has to come through the machine, next city, stroller comes through this special booth. Bin for your luggage but only in this city, nowhere else.
  17. Next 10 days could very well be the make or break point. Running out of mulligans. It feels weird looking at the standings and seeing how very in the race the Brewers are. Just feels like they should be in a much worse spot.
  18. I've seen too many people being escorted out of MP with open cuts around their eyes to think those people should be allowed to carry mace inside. One drunken idiot sprays that and it gets in some 4-year-old's face, that is already too much liability for the Brewers. The policy of taking everything away is their only option. The presence of the metal detectors takes away any gray area as if there were potential litigation the Brewers would be all but forced to acknowledge they knew said item was allowed in or didn't catch it. Both are very bad.
  19. I went through once with a pocket knife. I ended up hiding it somewhere outside, picked up after the game. Did it again, but remembered half way there and went back to car. It's attached to my key ring so it's easy if I'm not paying attention. I imagine there are people whose guns are basically appendages.
  20. I'm pretty glad they do it even if the all-time count is 0.
  21. Casual fans don't care where players came from. Most of them have no idea how the draft even works. See man, see man hit ball is as deep as their knowledge of the minors goes for most folks. If Braun grew up in Wauwatosa that would hold some weight.
  22. You're giving the human race way too much credit. Most people doing anything remotely dangerous take the necessary precautions but there are 7 billion of us on the planet and if a small percentage don't it's still a lot of people. How many people leave Miller Park every night above .08? The car is deadly at that point as well. You're not allowed to carry lots of places but do you think everybody follows that sign at the grocery store, the bank, a high school football game, etc. Some people's logic is basically going to be what good is it if I always take it off my person? I'm not taking any stance here, but these factors + alcohol + people's general forgetfulness makes me think 1-2x per month is way low considering it's possible to have a month where half a million people come through the gates.
  23. Lock thread, it's over. Well done.
  24. Also remember that a good number of people have been drinking and have the thing strapped to their waist and may just forget after 6 Miller Lites.
