  1. I just think it'd be cool if they both hit 50. I think Yelich will get there but Moose probably has a cold streak in him that would make him tougher. Realistically they'll probably combine for 89 or something.
  2. I don't know, the fact that Leonard and Pop still have a very strong relationship leads me to believe we'll never actually know what happened there. But I do believe it's a lot more complicated than Leonard supposedly milking an injury. I just don't see him doing that.
  3. Can't the goals matter quite a bit in group stage? Obviously Thailand sucks, so what if the US is upset by someone else and every other teams puts a 10 spot on Thailand. It's the World Cup, score as much as you want. And yes, people would be calling it out if it were the men. That was such a dumb point from the coach.
  4. I think it's fine with no stakes. There is definitely a level of pride attached to it and playing well in it for a lot of guys. I think it's one of the few positives of the unwritten rules and all that nonsense...it's kept a level of fire in the ASG.
  5. That's just not gonna fly. It has be horrible for one of the teams and fodder for getting that GM fired.
  6. I don't think comparing the bunt to a charge makes a lot of sense and I definitely think taking a charge consistently in the NBA is a skill. Also, how often are guys asked to bunt and can't do it? Is doing it for a base hit really easier than getting a "real" hit?
  7. I haven't seen either one but Rocket Man got far higher critical acclaim than Bohemian Rhapsody, where the consensus was basically a mediocre movie carried by the lead performance. Those types of movies just don't move me to the cinema though. I just don't have a problem waiting for them to show up on a streaming service. I think I normally get to the movies twice a year and this year I'll probably be there about 10 times. I'm a sucker for Blockbusters and there are a lot of them this year. Captain Marvel, End Game, Spiderman, possibly MIB, Aladdin, Lion King, Joker, Frozen 2, Star Wars, Toy Story 4...I'll probably see them all.
  8. I think in the preseason thread I mentioned I didn't really love Peralta, but he just strikes me as a guy who's never going to be what his biggest fans want him to be.
  9. No, because I'd been looking forward to this series since I saw the schedule and I hate watching him pitch. With just two games and a day off before and after, I was hoping it'd wind up our 2 best starters. Not that I expect them to swing the rotation around to my liking, but this is pretty much exactly the kind of start I expected.
  10. I never really bought the Leonard milking an injury thing. It smelled like a reach to me and just another instance where fans default to siding with the team. If he could play without risk to his health he'd have been out there with his guys. His Uncle whatever probably knew there was a real chance that if he did get hurt it would be a big time setback financially. Sure looks like he was looking for Kawhi (and himself, let's be honest), but I never really held that episode against him.
  11. I don't know that Kawhi is staying or going and I wasn't predicting either, I was just saying that if he does stay they have a problem in Toronto or likely any EC team he goes to, if he does. Everyone knew he was very good but this cements him as one of the elite, capable of carrying a team to a championship even if they don't close this out. I'm full on camp Golden State after seeing the douche wave goodbye to KD. I don't get into "classy fans" because it's just a silly conversation, but for whatever reason I want Toronto to lose.
  12. The Brewers roster construction is odd. They had a poor run differential last year and it looks to be similar this year. When you are successful in something using unconventional methods, that's going to throw off statistical modeling because it doesn't know how to account for what you're doing.
  13. If by some miracle Moose accepts the option go for it. However, I'm in camp pump the brakes for anything else. It's probably likely the Brewers just got the best season of his career for $10 million. Given his age, probably ceiling and price, he seems like a good candidate for a team needing to know when it already lucked out.
  14. I can't say I want the Warriors to win but it sure feels a lot more like the Bucks blew a championship now. Not sure the battered Warriors could've beaten them if they closed out Game 3 with Toronto. Sure the Bucks will compete going forward, but it is what it is with this season. It should've been us. Also can't help but feel like the Raptors are now an annual problem as long as they have Leonard, and that this might validate Durant and bring him back to GS. I think saying the Raptors were clearly better than the Bucks is kind of a coping mechanism. The Bucks missed a ton of open shots they'd hit all year. Giannis was still putting up numbers despite this narrative that he didn't really show up. He didn't play his best, but he was still a huge factor like any great player. They did make him work, were smart with fouling him, and took Mids out of the series. Despite all that, the fact is the Bucks were very much in Games 5 and 6. If they made more threes the whole series this obvious disparity just wouldn't have been all that obvious.
  15. It's definitely score related. Nobody can say it isn't lame as hell to do that down 8-0. But 3-0? That's reasonable.
  16. I'm optimistic on the team, but they're still going to have to have a nice stretch of play at some point. Saying they're going to do it soon sounds nice, but they've yet to really put it together and have kind of been in this 5-6 game over hump for a while. I thought it was starting when they came home to play Miami.
  17. I thought the number of fans at the park didn't matter.
  18. This doesn't only apply to sports journalism, but journalism as a whole. You can see it with mainstream media outlets being driven by an agenda as opposed to getting facts. I don't want to go down that path, but I think it could apply to baseball. Facts can be spun to push a certain agenda. "Out-getters? What in the heck are those? It sounds like a first grader talking about playground ball. Out-getters... geesch!!!!" Then, when the W's started piling up, a writer can do one of a few things: 1. Write about something else; or 2: do some analysis to see why it is working. All in all, I truly believe that Journalism is nowhere near the quality craft it was before the Internet became a pillar of our lives. How many times do we see misspellings, wrong pictures, or bush-league headlines? Time to market is very small that shortcuts on time and personnel are made resulting in a crappier product. It is almost like being a meteorologist... A lot of copy editing is outsourced to India to people who are ESL. I wish that was a joke, but it isn't.
  19. What amuses me about this "do something, David!" sentiment the most is the very possibly and perhaps likely reality that he tried to get somebody and someone else made a better deal. Some people talk about this stuff as if it takes place in a vacuum and nobody else is trying to get these players.
  20. A brutality honest, non-rationalization, post. Brutality honest sounds violent. That said, I haven't seen anybody rationalizing, just you continually throwing around that word. All I've really seen people saying is that this isn't some division clinching, throw your hands up acquisition, while conceding that it probably makes the Cubs better this year.
  21. The Cubs got lucky with Zobrist's marriage falling apart. It allowed that $43 million figure to look a lot bigger than it was in terms of money already committed. I think, pretty clearly, no other team was willing to give him what he wanted.
