  1. I'm pretty sure Fielder was left off the team early in his career in similar fashion and he was a name everybody knew
  2. 1B has always been a fraternity where you have to be good several seasons before they let you in. Stupid? Perhaps. It's likely because it's an offensive position and you have to replace someone else with much more name recognition. You typically play first because you can hit. I'm fine with three. I think it'll be four when it's said and done.
  3. Jeffress is hurt by Hader. The OF have missed too much time. Aguilar probably deserves it but 1B usually have to put a few seasons together to break into what's always a stocked offensive group. Hader is the only lock.
  4. They don't really deserve to have a bunch of all stars though, really. With the injuries there are probably two genuine all stars and one is at a loaded position.
  5. Yes. By that logic CC has been the perfect manager this year and has not made one mistake. No need to make adjustments. Well he would probably win manager of the year if the season ended today.
  6. Was there really a reason to ride him a 3rd inning the other night? As I recall, it wasn't even his best stuff. To have a pen arm unavailable for 3 games is kind of silly. Your starters are only unavailable for 4. They still have ten games in nine days, guessing they are trying not to sever his arm over that stretch. They've won all those games without him, so whether lucky or genius, it's working.
  7. Just a guess here. But I'm betting we don't see Jeffress and Hader in the same game until after the break unless there are consecutive games neither is used because of a blowout wins or losses.
  8. I think as fans we sometimes gloss over nuances that come with being human. It could be as simple as Hader telling CC he needs an extra day off.
  9. The Brewers aren't off for a long time. Guessing that is in play with use of the relievers.
  10. In a one or two run game I'm guessing Jeffress is in. With a four run lead the hope was probably to surrender a couple and have him finish the game/8th. You have to make a choice and sometimes it doesn't go smoothly.
  11. Hader and Jeffress would be in if they could be. For any number of reasons they're not available.
  12. You have to have some production from the back end of the pen. It's not Counsell's fault when you bring in a professional with a four run lead and he does this.
  13. I've been saying for a long time, my highest hope for this season was locking in a WC spot and hopefully winning the entry playoff. We can still do that, and I don't think we will win the division. We are simply the inferior team. We just get in, anything can happen at that point.
  14. Imo their biggest problem. He's gotten away with it mostly because of people incorrectly attributing pitching success to him.
  15. Uh, we have a lead in the division. It's July. The Cubs are in 2nd place. So, you're saying for fans to concede the division and some Miller Park Cubs tickets (good money, though)? I prefer trying, caring, and believing a bit more. Oh my God man, put the ticket stuff to bed, for the love of Christ.
  16. The guy who thought Brad Miller would never play must be losing his mind
  17. When I see Zagurski all I think about is that old Buffalo Wild Wings ad where they "put in Mahoney." I don't have a good feeling about this.
  18. It probably has been. That is most likely the reason he is still on the team.
  19. This is on an offense that is wildly inconsistent, not Counsell, again. We've had at least three games where Jesus Aguilar is the only run producer. Counsell makes one decision at a pivotal moment that doesn't work out, which is more memorable than the bad offense we've come to expect. Not sure taking Suter out would have mattered the way Hader is throwing anyway.
  20. I don't hate the move but it's a little...odd. Why not just bring in Hader from the start?
