  1. Manny Machado at best, gives the Brewers a few extra wins. I don't think that is the difference between first and second place in the central. We have the unfortunate circumstance of playing besides the best team in the NL. At the end, I see the Cubs with something like 96 wins, and us hovering around 88-90. If I thought our talent gap was smaller with CHC, I'd be more inclined to bite. The prospect of giving up anything of value for a player that we can lose after losing a one-game playoff, IF we even get there, is not something I like to entertain. I'll be very excited if they get him, but I'm totally fine with walking away from this and I wouldn't criticize Stearns at all. Burnes for that? Absolutely not.
  2. I'm exhausted by this. Every team has been mentioned as the leader to cover every writer's butt. Heyman has mentioned every team now so he can't be wrong. Official word will come tomorrow and until then this is a stupid carousel.
  3. I don't know if we'll make the playoffs, but I know going for anything significant in short term pursuit of a 1 game wild card is a bad idea, and I do know this team ain't winning the central. It's complete deja vu from last year. 5.5 up at the break, vanished in days. 2.5 up in the division just days ago, now a 2.5 game deficit. We're not outlasting the Cubs. Agree. Time to abandon Machado dreams. Let the season play out, don't sell, but we're playing for a wild cars. As I've thought all along.
  4. Not sure there was a play on the ball in which case there is no error. In that rain, I don't expect Kratz to make that play. That's buried on the list of warts in this game for me.
  5. Counsell and the game continuing in that ridiculous rain are 1A and 1B.
  6. Maybe they're throwing this series to get Stearns to bring in Machado
  7. You can't dictate people views, feelings, or reactions. If you don't like the atmosphere here, no one is making you show up. I enjoy the ups and downs in the IGT thread. It's a great place to vent, and celebrate with like minded people. If it gets too much, I check out for a while... I always have the option of being here, and if it brought me down, I certainly wouldn't spend any time here. I sort of see both sides of this. Years back, like I'm talking 05, 06, 07, a lot of the stuff in IGT today would result in suspensions, warnings, and some regular here would have been booted long ago. The live chat was much more popular then than it is now. The moderation used to be very firm in the kind of place Brewer Fan wanted to be. For better or worse, it's much lighter now, and you can get away with a lot more. It's easier to be a "new guy" now, but overall I would say it's a fair assessment that the quality of the posts has declined. Obviously I'm still here, so I still like it, but there is a definite change in how things are run. I know a lot of the old mods and ownership are still technically in "power" but they ghosted from here long ago.
  8. Yelich is like Geoff Jenkins. I have no idea why he's revered on here. That's a big insult to Jenkins's arm.
  9. I mean, we're in game 2 of 5. I'm not conceding a sweep yet.
  10. The way the pitching has been lately is really starting to make me nervous. Not that I thought any of these guys were stars, but with our second half track record, the jitters are starting to creep in for me. At no point did I expect a division titles, and I still don't, but how bad will it look if we trade for Manny Machado, the pitching collapses and we miss the playoffs completely? Trying not to overreact here, and we've basically avoided a truly horrific losing stretch the entire season to this point, but in the back of my head I've thought the SP would fall off at some point this year, just didn't want to believe it.
  11. Would be cool to get a single bobblehead with all 5 guys on it
  12. I just hate the finishing mindset. If you're going to do that when you get into extras, why not give everyone a day off and let Zagurski throw 9 innings.
  13. Again there are no pitchers left. Hader didn't pitch yesterday did he?? How can there be no pitchers left? Yeah, I've been a fervent defender of Counsell, but this is hard to defend. The availability is stuff is kind of a joke, guys who throw 1 inning, can't, under any circumstance, be tasked with getting 3 outs? That can be like 8 pitches. The alternative is letting a reliever bat with RISP in extras, then totally white flagging the bottom frame? Sorry, not buying it.
  14. Lord, we are doomed if we make it to the playoffs and need Yelich to make an assist. His arm is awful out there. One of the worst in recent memory.
  15. Not really. No one left to pitch. Someone has to be able to throw one inning. A hitter should have hit there, no matter how bad the hitter was, and if he doesn't get the hit then you go to your last arm and hope for some luck but understand you're probably dropping this one. It's almost like he did the same thing without trying to get the hit, which is why I find it very odd. It was a little bit like taking a knee at the 50 yard line with 3 seconds left to go to OT. You may as well throw one up there first.
  16. These rumors aren't even believable. I guess that Yankees can afford to lose Sheffield for a rental but my god, what a robbery that would be.
  17. I'm guessing here, but the grain of truth in that rumor is probably that it was close to the Orioles original ask of the Brewers. It was probably politely declined, laughed at behind closed doors, and led to where we are now.
  18. The longer this drags on, I'd have to think, is good news for us if we do end up getting him.
  19. I would've countered that Broxton/Burnes/Arcia deal with Zagurski
  20. Honestly if Arcia were hitting as well as Escobar (prior to this season where Escobar's been unusually terrible) he would still be with the club this season. Arcia's been so bad now for a while that Escobar's numbers would probably put a lot of people at ease.
  21. Not a chance that latest offer is real. Not a chance. We would already have Manny if that deal were ever on the table.
  22. He's not saying trade someone because you have depth, he's accurately saying that Arcia hasn't shown anything at the MLB level to be in the same sentence as Manny Machado, and that the Brewers were able to get a player like Saladino to play defense for nothing. It's about incremental value. Arcia may be terrific defensively but you can get good defense a lot easier than a great infield bat. There seems to a ton of confidence around here that Arcia is going to find his stroke again. Or is it possible he's not capable of making adjustments? That has happened before in baseball. Arcia alone is more valuable than Machado? If you're referring to the whole package i.e. the contract then maybe. Purely as a player, today? He's not even close. It's an other-worldly upgrade for this year's team. It's the classic mortgaging the future debate. If you give up Matt LaPorta it ends up not looking so bad later on. There is no way to know that now.
