  1. If some teams requests Arcia in a trade, that isn't going to hold me back. Yes, he may bounce back and hit, but I will take that risk if some team values him enough to ask for him. You can find defensive SS for free (Saladino, Rivera). I agree with you. But that's because I don't think Arcia will ever be a compotent hitter. He is phenomenal defensively, but batting .220 doesn't justify that. To me, this is a case of Brewers fans really loving their own guy. I'm absolutely showing him the door for Manny Machado and a shot at a championship run. We'll find another SS who can't hit. If you're not willing to give up a guy who's been that bad for someone like Machado I don't think you'll be happy with any deal for him. I'd much rather give up Arcia, a guy who's at least had chances in MLB, than someone like Hiura, Burnes, etc. I'm not saying Arcia won't ever be good, but I don't think he is, and we at least tried him out. That makes it easier for me to let go.
  2. Aguilar is going to win this. The funny thing is I wonder how many pile-on votes Segura is getting from Brewers fans who are there to get Aguilar in. I know that's what I did.
  3. I'm guessing the Brewers have done extensive analytics and figured out that using Hader unnecessarily to "get him work" in situations that don't call for it is not worth it. Now, last week there were spots he could have played. But I think there is probably more to this than just Counsell doing what he feels like.
  4. Why do you guys keep using the "re-think how they are using him" line? You act like they've been using him once a week the entire season. It happened once, during a 20 games in 19 days stretch where the circumstances made the decision a little tricky. He's a Cy Young candidate. They don't need to re-think anything. Just stop.
  5. I don't think they need Machado but I also don't need a Lamborghini.
  6. Oh, so Counsell is perfect, and since he has the best bullpen in baseball he can't be criticized? please. Nobody said that. What gets exhausting is the blind squirrel routine where the guy is criticized for every flaw on the field. It's his bullpen use, his batting order, his roster decisions. Never mind the winning percentage, that's the players. The bad stuff is Counsell.
  7. Or it could be that he needs to pitch more than once every 7 freaking days. CC and his bullpen management once again leaving something to be desired. CC's bullpen management is why the team is where they are this season. I can't comprehend this. Yes, this was a bad play, but it was easy to see how it happened, with a heavy schedule and two decisive games, preceded by some close games that they didn't use him in but still won. It was an unfortunate set of circumstances and he probably should have played but he didn't. I'd have a hard time using him Saturday in a loss and yesterday in a lopsided win. He shoulda played in the first close games but how did CC know Saturday and Sunday wouldn't be 2-1 games? He didn't. It's tougher to make those calls than it looks.
  8. Nope. Counsell. Brewers always do good, when they don't, it's Counsell.
  9. Was just about to say this. Counsell's fault completely. Well, except that everything is always his fault. So when it really is his fault, it's hard to take it seriously.
  10. I don't even know how they gauge stuff like that. If the Brewers merely make the playoffs, which I get they still may not do, I don't believe for a second their odds at a WS are 4%. Baseball has way more potential for randomness than other major sports. I struggle with how the Brewers can be 80% odds to make the playoffs and 4% to win the WS. Even it is 4%, that's a lot better than the 0 it typically is in mid July for Brewers fans.
  11. No Hiura, Peralta or Burnes and I can find peace with anybody else we give up.
  12. If I had some kind of crystal ball that showed me keeping three prospects would lead to a winning decade with no titles, and getting Machado for those three guys meant a World Series (I'll even settle for a mere appearance) and a lot more overall losing, I'd take that in a heartbeat. Yes, I know you can not win the title with him and still get the losing. But I just don't see the names being mentioned here as franchise-ruining moves.
  13. You seem like one of those guys that hates every trade the day it happens. I can't believe there are people who'd be upset about giving up a couple guys who have probably a less than 25% of being good to get Manny Machado, in a season that the Brewers have a legitimate chance to not only make the playoffs, but go deep in them. I'd get the rationale if we made the playoffs every year but we've done it less than 5 times in 50 years. At some point it is still worth it even if the prospects end up being productive. None of those guys are the shove the Brewers need to get there THIS season. Is Manny? Maybe not but I'd love to find out.
  14. Or Brantley, Cain, Escobar, etc... If this was such a simple idea and Machado would unlock the "you will win the World Series" code, this trade would've been done yesterday. Unfortunately, it's complicated and a lot of people would prefer to keep the prospects if the price gets steep. And they very likely are not wrong to do so. Except the odds are heavily tilted that he isn't Cain or Escobar and is another flameout. Because that's how odds work. Most players are flameouts. While I don't want us to give anyone away, keeping prospects around that may never see regular time at Miller Park when we could get an MVP for three months does not make a lot of sense to me. This team has a chance right now. It's not about a magical unlocking the World Series code, no need to be a jerk about it. It's about a historically bad team having a shot.
  15. Machado in today's lineup for Baltimore
  16. Yeah I don't get that mentality at all. This is an MVP player. Any or all of those prospects can be the next Matt LaPorta. This is the Brewers we're talking about. They have been competent lately but I'm tired of prospects. As long as it isn't the elite guys, and it sounds like it wouldn't be, pull the trigger on this, PLEASE.
  17. If that is true, then they need to find a way to make it work. I would be able to live with anybody going out the door except Hiura and Peralta; not that the rest aren't good but those two have the potential to be really special. I can barely contain myself at the thought of Machado playing out the season here.
  18. The price will be brutal but can anyone honestly they'd be upset with getting him? It's a rental, but it's a hell of a rental. If we win the NL it's worth it. Exciting times.
  19. Even if they did "need" him and some would say that they do, he wouldn't be pitching if not ready. That isn't always the case. Plenty of teams would rush a guy back at 90% if they were in a pennant race.
  20. They're going about this the right way. If he's ready to pitch on October 1 and not September 25, we won't see him this year. They're going by his rehab and not the state of the team. Good.
  21. Agree on Perez. He's a great utility player. He's just fine for the role he has on the team.
  22. Yelich benefitted from being on two teams. Thats two clubhouses that know him well and two divisions. Lots of friends, lots of managers know him well. Aguilar doesn't have that. That silly stuff matters.
