  1. but where are all three of Mayo, Black, and Wilken going to play in 2025 and beyond? If all succeed: 1B, 3B, and DH. These are all prospects, there is a good chance one won't succeed. Thus that person will be at AAA. Hopefully not more than one but it has happened. Just because we take a player this year, doesn't mean he has to stay for eternity. They are still tradable. So perhaps they play on someone else's team. Not taking players because someone is "blocked" is a horrible way to GM. Always take the player that is going to produce the most (as far as you can tell). Never settle for a lesser player because of need.
  2. Good to know we don't need any more prospects for the next 2-3 years then! 😅 For a shallow-pockets team like the Brewers, we need a high volume of low cost players in order to compete. Obviously not all prospects will succeed in the majors anyway. Of the 13 you listed for '25-'27, I'd wager only 3-5 producing more than 2.0 career WAR. I personally believe strongly that Frelick, Chourio, Black, MItchell, maybe Wiemer are a core to build around. Thus the interest in getting more prospects that impact '24-'28 instead of draft picks that start impacting '29+ when those players I listed start reaching FA.
  3. Right. First round picks flame out all the time. At least these people would be somewhat tested and successful for a couple years. And 2025 draft picks won't hit the majors until 2029 or later anyway. By then you are looking at our young guys now being done with arbitration...
  4. Not to mention that those 2025 draft picks won't reach the majors until Wiemer, Frelick, and Mitchel are all done with arbitration... Would be nice to get a return that impacts the team in the next 2-3 years instead of 5-7.
  5. Of course, 3 of those 5 (Chourio, regular pick, Competitive balance pick) have nothing to do with trading or keeping Burnes and Adames... And if you trade them now, you will get more than just 2 first round pick talents... you'll also get someone that has actually produced in the minors.
  6. Yeah, that is where I've been since Woody got hurt. I had hopes we could keep him... 😟
  7. Except we know the "rebuild" is coming. Woody was the first domino. Burnes is highly unlikely to be on the Brewers in 2025. Adames slightly more chance, but also unlikely. The question is do you trigger the rebuild with more options by trading both (or even Williams/Peralta if you REALLY want to clean house. Or do we just wait and let them go for compensation picks?
  8. $9M in 2017 is probably worth $12M in 2024. There has been quite a bit of inflation since 2017.
  9. And like every other thread over 2 pages, it has bobbed and weaved around through many other players. 😉
  10. Agreed. I don't see Ohio State going with a rookie HC. And I don't see Day leaving. Yes, they've lost to MI 3x in a row, but they are still top 5 in the nation. Would be a massive overreaction to dump him just because of MI - no matter how big of a rivalry that is...
  11. Yes, average signing bonus for a Packer UDFA last year was $6,250. I'm honestly not sure how much NIL money the typical player gets, but I'll wager more than that? They clearly like Mellusi when he was healthy and getting more snaps than Allen. And no matter how good the incoming freshman RBs are, I'm sure having a vet ahead of them the first year is a good thing. Even if he gets hurt again, he is there through TC to be the example. And if he stays healthy, you still need a 2nd and 3rd RB that will get snaps.
  12. Why? Neither one is leading the Vikings to a SB victory! 😅 Well.. yes because they gave up almost nothing for him. Sure he threw 4 INTs and looked bad last night, but trading for him was more about QB depth (they were down to a 4th (5th?) round rookie and an UDFA rookie QB). They fact that he won a couple games and had a lot of fun doing it was worth the trade (i.e. swapping a 6th for a 7th round pick). Actually Packer fans should be happy he won games. He isn't going to win against a good team and he just kept the Viking from tanking for a few weeks at least. Fox9 sports in Minneapolis was hilarious last night! One of the anchors is a Packer fan. He kept emphasizing how "HORRIBLE" the Viking-Bears game was. Then they cut to the sports reporter in Chicago and he ends with "and the worst part of this is that bad teams with a 5-6 record are now in the playoff hunt." 😂😂
  13. I railed on Love early in the season for that. He was often late, constantly throwing to a WR with the CB on his back that was easily knocked down. But that has decreased drastically recently (I remember it happening 1x last game). Every QB is going to throw to a covered WR... the best ones "throw them open". Besides a few underthrown deep passes, Love has made pretty good decisions the last 4 games. Honestly, I don't recall many PIs in our favor. There have been a few, but it isn't egregious either. Pretty obvious calls, IMO. It would be awesome if Love-Watson went full-on Culpepper-Moss... 😂 I don't think Love played well the first 3 games. Maybe the Chicago game... He hit on some big plays, but had a very low completion percentage, was often late on passes, missed easy check-down passes, and (as previously mentioned) threw to covered WRs often. Maybe we won or he had decent TD/INT numbers, but the underlying view of those games didn't look good, IMO. Ugh... I was actually hoping for a little lower. But he is better than Carr or Goff. But if that is an extension, 6/$172.5M maybe isn't horrid.
  14. I'd hold off on ordering the HOF bust quite yet... 😅 I've tried really hard to be a realist with Love this year. When he was having bad accuracy issues, I pointed it out when critiquing his play, but refrained from kicking him the curb. I really wanted him to have the full year before making any judgments (just in case Gute happened to call me up for my opinion... ). I was equally effusive of his praise the last 4 weeks. The turnaround has been stark and I'm pretty confident he is capable of playing better than at least half of the NFL starting QBs. But like earlier in the year, let him play out the year or maybe next to really start to see what sort of QB he will be. Maybe this was just a hot streak. KC will be an interesting challenge next week. I'm confident he will be back next year but I'd like a bit more of a sample to see if the last 4 games were the norm or the first 7? Or something in between?
  15. Wicks isn't the fastest WR, but his route running was strong. He is 5th on the team currently (Watson just passed him in a game Wicks was out injured) in receiving despite getting much fewer snaps. He kind of gives me some Donald Driver vibes - not big, not fast, just gets it done - type of WR. Van Ness' knock was more on technique. I think there were some Qs about him holding the edge, but that doesn't seem to be an issue. Maybe if he was a 4-3 DL he would've been small? He clearly does need more pass rush moves... kind of eerily similar to Gary in their rookie years.
  16. And probably has a better chance to make more money next year in college than as an UDFA (assuming signing bonus only and getting cut).
  17. Yes, that was also what I heard. Thus why I said "might" return.
  18. Mordecai is also gone. Though Locke looked at least as good. I'm guessing they will hit the transfer portal again. Should be pretty prime spot for any RB they want. Mellusi might return though he can't seem to stay healthy. Pauli was pretty good at WR this year. Green wasn't bad. Not sure who else they got coming up either. TE is thin, LB was sort of weak, CB also. DL was up and down. But this year started rebuilding the talent gap we had the last couple years. More experience in the offensive and defensive systems will help too.
  19. Their QB got whacked on their last offensive play... I wonder if he wasn't going to be able to come back out... Well we hit our minimum expectation milestones - Beat Bielama and Fleck, Make a bowl. Seems like they started turning things around at the end of the season. Interesting to see what they will be able to accomplish next year with a year of experience.
  20. The Packer's traded draft pick #45 to the Lions who drafted S Brian Branch (who would've helped the Packers too!). They traded down one more time and turned that one pick into: #50 Jayden Reed #159 Dontayvion Wicks #179 Karl Brooks Holy cow is that a huge return! Sure, it takes good drafting in the 5th and 6th rounds and it's still early... but that looks like a huge steal at this point.
  21. Nice! Pauling is back. TD!!!
  22. Or Green. Two of our top 3 WRs out...
  23. No. Let it sit for a year at least before making yet more changes. If there is anything to the injuries gather more info before trying to make it worse.
  24. They didn't say much. They said security tried to stop him from leaving at half-time. No particular reason was given...just that MLF wasn't happy. Said he had no interest in stopping and he's never had that happen before.
  25. Well there is our regular D back... 😔
