  1. Certainly Houser's Achilles is LHB, but he has slowly been improving there too - mostly dealing with control, consistency, and pitch sequences. He isn't going to be Woody or Burnes, but I think he can be a serviceable #3 or #4. He has a higher ceiling than many of our other SP options this year (after Woody, Burnes and Peralta), but that comes with a lower floor too.
  2. Understanding the effects of CTE to prevent it is fine. But we don't know how affected he was by CTE in the first place. There are a lot of assumptions going on. The "blithe" part is when the excuse is thrown out...well, he has CTE. It was still murder. He still killed people. We are sadly desensitized by it anymore.
  3. Wakefield was the last successful knuckballer in the MLB that I can think of... Third most victories in Red Sox history. And I think the key to his success was having the Niekro brothers coach him. I wonder how many coaches can teach the knucker anymore?
  4. I watched one of the Jeopardy episodes this week; first one ever without Alex Trabek. It was weird because it sounded like Rodgers was trying to be Trabek, but it sounded wrong (wrong voice). But overall I think he did a nice job.
  5. That still doesn't excuse the act of murder. It might change how you treat/handle the case (if he had survived), but it isn't an excuse. I doubt you would be so blithe if you were related to that doctor or kids.
  6. Despite the garbage lineup, it would've been interesting to watch Nwora play tonight. 24 pts, 40% of 3 ptrs, and +12 in a 8pt loss. Good to see someone was playing well.
  7. I got to set foot in Bo Ryan Court in UW Platteville yesterday. Made me miss him as a coach.
  8. Since when do our announcers constantly talk about out starting pitcher's success in the prevention of base runners in a game?
  9. It always amazes me in football and baseball when you have a replay and there isn't a camera angle at a critical view (i.e. right down the boundary). How hard is it to put cameras at key spots like that?
  10. I only played through high school, so obviously I can't speak to what it's like in the big leagues, but my attitude was that if the first pitch was a good one to hit, there was no reason to put myself in an 0-1 hole just for the sake of...something. Of course, that approach isn't going to work for someone who doesn't have a good eye at the plate. Yeah, my comment above was meant to note that Huira was less aggressive in 2020 - perhaps attempting to walk more? So maybe being aggressive will help him bring back a bit of 2019? Of course, he still needs to make contact (58% whiff rate)...
  11. Huira has swung at 37% of first pitches this year (32% in 2019 and 27% in 2020). So maybe being aggressive is better? https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/keston-hiura-669374?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb
  12. [sarcasm]Are you kidding? Our entire minor league has zero hits this year![/sarcasm]
  13. Windows must be a theme. I bought my house knowing that the 20-year-old wood frame windows needed to be replaced. Finally got around to getting them done. 14 windows in 7 casements (currently crank - going to slide/double hung) came in at $25k. I kept telling the guy "no" until he came down to $16k. They weren't Pella or Anderson, but had pretty high rankings. Should be installed sometime in May. Still have two big ones to replace (4' pane glass with a semi-circle top), but he quoted a price for them and will honor the price for 2 years.
  14. No doubter if it were St. Louis or the White Sox. Kind of like the Topps commercial where the Cardinal player is looking at player's cards: He sucks, he sucks, Trout's ok, he sucks, he sucks... Perfectly captured the Cardinal classiness!
  15. Man, I love baseball savant... Interesting stats from Freddy's night: - max exit velocity was 94.6 MPH, but it came with a launch angle of 78 degrees and a distance of 47 feet. - A pop-up. - 47% FBs and 45% curves + 7 other misc off speed pitches. - Curveball average exit velocity was 77MPH - CB had a 55% whiff rate - and especially nice on Rizzo.
  16. While not a beer drinker, I find it funny to find out that "Goose Island" is Chicago's Beer... I'm sure Milwaukee (Miller) and St. Louis (Bud) are impressed...
  17. Seems like Yelich could stand to have a tighter helmet. Seems like every wild swing he has of a ball out of the zone, he has his helmet blocking or partially blocking his vision.
