  1. Remember for our DLine, they’re not taught or paid to dominate. They’re taught to occupy blockers and create opportunities for our linebackers. If we want to push towards a 4-3 again, then the DLine can be asked to try to dominate. Then again, we haven’t really used 4-3 or 3-4 in years, as our base defense has been nickel Then they did a bad job at occupying blockers. A good portion of our poor run D was on the DL getting pushed around. MLB play and playing a bunch of nickel D would be the other. Lowry did not play well this year; he got pushed around in our worst games. I can see them getting one of several NTs in FA plus another draft pick to upgrade the position. We had no depth.
  2. I was actually halfway through a similar post. I split this off of the OL post. There is no need to mush all topics in one thread. That is why we have this Other Sports Forum.
  3. One of the bigger decisions of the offseason is whether to resign Bryan Bulaga. He is one of the best RT in the league, but also 30 years old with a big of an injury history (though mostly healthy last year). Corey Linsley is a decent center but has a $10.5M cap hit ($8.5M savings if cut). Lane Taylor is highly likely to be cut ($6M cap hit with $4.6M savings). Baktiari, Jenkins, Patrick, and Turner are safe bets to be on the team next year. Madison and Light are probably the best bets to get a shot at training camp (at least) from the rest of the roster. So, how would you reconfigure the OL? Conventional wisdom says to cut Taylor, and find another RT/RG with Turner filling the other RT/RG position. In this case, we most likely won't resign Bulaga. The unconventional thought in my head is to cut Taylor and Linsley, resign Bulaga for a 3-4 year deal (~$10M/year), move Jenkins to center and find another LG. Jenkins looked excellent at LG, but I'm thinking that putting him at C would increase his value. He would improve the run game for both sides. Plus, you bookend our best OL players (Bak, Bulaga, Jenkins) around the weaker (Turner/LG). Also, I'm not sure I'm comfortable with Turner out at RT. He was very up and down last year at RG; which was his MO when we signed him. Obviously, it's a risk to sign BB with his age and history, but he looked excellent last year. Plus, I enjoy hearing him say "Iowa" when he announces himself.
  4. We have known this since September 2018. Well, I don't think most fans realize this. Gonna be a tough moment when he's gone. Baseball sucks that way. I think I'm over Molitor going to the Blue J..nope, still hurts.
  5. We only ended up watching 1/2 of the first Quarter and then the last 2 minutes. But the Charlie Day Tide commercial..especially the surprise appearance in the next commercial (masked singer?) was pretty funny. We were joking that Tide should've paid for him to just wander through random commercials all night.
  6. Who is saying the refs were paid? ~40% of the fans of every team that loses every game. The Packers/Patriots/Steelers hold on every play etc etc. [sarcasm]I certainly hope they were paid...it's not like they volunteer or anything! [/sarcasm]
  7. And they found the grass to be Brown...
  8. Since Urias probably won't be on the starting 26-man roster and will have to do a minor league rehab, is it cheating to pick him? I've kind of lost confidence in Erceg myself, but I don't begrudge people picking him to be a surprise. I hope you're right. Taylor probably has the best chance as a back-up OF; especially at CF. On the pitching side, I'll select Supak as the most likely.
  9. With the short-term FAs deals last year, I expected that to be a bit of a spike year. I'm actually ok if the Brewers step back a bit this year (not that I want it), if they are retooling. They made more long-term moves this year and might be able to push back up again in a year or two. Right now, I'd guess they will bounce between a 500 team and a Wild Card contention. But there is a chance to be a World Series contender if several things go right: - LoCain healthy and bounce back at the top of the order. - Knebel healthy and back to the old Evil Knebel - Burnes pitching (and hopefully starting) like '18 and not '19 - Braun, Hiura and Yelich: '19 repeat - New players play better D than advertised Granted, I think last year people pegged them for 85-88 wins and a lot of things went right for them to contend for the WS.
  10. I want JJ to do well, but... not with the Cubs...
  11. And how many of those "top picks" are not with the teams that drafted them in this list? Syndergaard (Mets), Grandal (Dodgers/Brewers), Yelich (Brewers), Realmuto, Hader (Brewers), and Bauer all jump to mind. But if you are going to break down the GM's (and/or GM's team's) impact to the team you have to ask: - How do they draft? - How do they do in procuring quality players? - Do they keep the right players on long term contracts? Certainly, no one does all aspects really well. And I think DS has shown that he can find good players with shrewd moves. But if the drafting is suspect, you can identify and fix it. Because if you can't draft, you are handicapping yourself from the starting line.
  12. Ugly wins all year ended with an ugly loss.
  13. Officially cheering for KC! But the Statefarm bowl could've been fun!
  14. Need to score here to make the game closer than the 49er/Viking game. I need to go to work tomorrow.
  15. I think he means that the Packers weren't expected to get this far this year. And with some holes, they still found ways to win. They need more help for sure, but I take the year as a positive. Rather this than a talented Viking team that can't win...
  16. I think our D still has too many holes from bad drafting. Our D-line doesn't have 3 starting-caliber players. Our MLB has one player that is starting-caliber and only "ok" at that. They do ok with passing teams because of the Smith brothers and Clark, but we have been poor against the run all year.
  17. Turnovers always do. The Packers had little margin to win and winning the turnover battle was a major need for us to pull it off.
  18. Whoa...Jordy Nelson flashback with 87 there. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Sternberger next year. I have a good feeling...
  19. Probably trying to get as many points as possible at this point. I mean, the math just didn't even make any sense on it. But the "math" always assume the offense doesn't score anymore. Even with missing the 2pt, they were 21 pts behind. So not any "harm" to go either.
  20. Probably trying to get as many points as possible at this point.
  21. I thought the "Aaron never plays it safe" commercial (where he doesn't speed and stops at a yellow) seemed a little appropriate for this year.... Bring back the discount double-check!
  22. They couldn't help us. Truth. But I couldn't believe how many Facebook friends were talking about the NFL conspiracy. Serves me right for having Viking-fan FB friends...
  23. [sarcasm]Refs flagged the 49ers? The NFL MUST want the Packers to win![/sarcasm]
  24. John Leglue is saying a few Hail Marys regardless I'm betting. I'd let Rodgers handle the Hail Marys...
