  1. [sarcasm]Forget the statistics! That can't be! We need balance in the lineup! Everyone knows that righties hit lefties better than lefties on lefties![/sarcasm]
  2. After my previous post, I went to see what Peralta's numbers really look like at Fangraphs and was pretty surprised to see that even in his good year (yes, pretty much just one), his peripheral numbers stink. He has a high BB rate (3.0+ each year, which was known) with a low-ish K rate (6-7k/9IP, which is surprising). He has two FBs, but both are above average velocity (94.5-98MPH) and both seem to get hit pretty hard too. I thought, well, maybe his first inning pitched was good, thus he would make a good reliever. Nope. That was probably his worst inning. Comparing his two seam and regular FBs, he has fewer walks on his two seam (6.6%) than his normal FB (11.6%). So, I have a low expectation that he is going to reclaim his prior magic and be a sub 4 ERA pitcher. Moving him to the pen probably ups his FB to the high 90s, which might help. That is probably the only real chance for him to reclaim any value. Seems odd to say, but no matter where he pitches, he should probably lose the regular FB. It is his worst controlled pitch. His two seamer is plenty fast (still 94.5+ last year) and could increase if he is in the pen.
  3. [sarcasm]Please refer to the list of banned words policy and stop violating it.[/sarcasm]
  4. If his bat speed is ok, I would agree. Given that John mentioned a long swing, I would worry that he is simply late in getting the bat around, but big enough that it goes out anyway. But I suppose if Khrush Davis could do it...
  5. And we had a chance to have both of the top 2 LHP in the minors. I like Ray, but I still would've preferred Groome. Ironic how things turn out sometimes. Hader was considered a "throw-in" with Brett Phillips the crown jewel of the trade. I guess that is why you don't do one person trades. This is probably a topic for the MiLB forum, however. edit- Since there was duplicate topic in the minor's forum, I merged them.
  6. Char sui was a bit blah. Very tender and juicy, but not a strong flavor. My wife and one daughter really liked it. Myself and another daughter thought it was a little underpowered. I think I'll keep using pork loin for "boneless ribs", but go back to BBQ sauces. I've not tried smoking salt. But I'm tempted to try Canadian bacon. There are a lot of warnings to cold smoking, however so read up closely if you attempt it. With the lower temperatures, you have a higher chance of getting someone sick (well for meat... I can't imagine getting someone sick by smoking salt.
  7. I think the thought is that if you limit him down to his best two pitches, he will be vastly better than feeling the "need" to add two poor quality pitches. edit- Of course, after posting that, I went to Fangraphs and found that he threw his FB or slider over 93% of the time last season. My bad for reading/believing beat writers...
  8. Before Jeffress and Thornburg were closers, they were high leverage setup relievers. No real difference in situation as closer. And they aren't raking up saves to inflate their future arbitration. I don't see anything wrong with that
  9. Self fulfilling prophecy? Agents and the Brewers read those articles too, I would imagine.
  10. Turning a pork loin into char sui this weekend. Ribs are too expensive, but loin (basically the same meat) is cheaper. So boneless char sui "ribs" it will be!
  11. I'm going to hijack the hijack... Since we only have one thread available for GBP here at BF.net, inserting different topics is really the only way to manage it. Thus, its not really a hijack unless you don't talk about GBP stuff. Since LL.net has died off, I've put in a request to make a section for Other Wisconsin Sports. Thus, we can have different threads for Packer, Bucks and Badger topics without having to dump it all into one thread per team. The request is going up to the BF.net owner for consideration as it may change costs due to extra traffic. Just thought I'd let you know that its being considered.
  12. I think it will likely be more Geronimo Allison, since Janis has proven to only be able to run one route. True, but when he hits on those routes, they are home runs! See AZ last playoffs. Maybe Janis stole Manning's playoff magic!
  13. I'd go for an opt out clause if he meets certain criteria. And those criteria are high enough to warrant that we can put a QO on him. Then if he leaves, we at least get some compensation.
  14. Angel Pagan - interesting contradiction in his name...
  15. I was thinking the same about Williams and the BP. Seems like he could move up quickly if they moved him to the pen. And be a pretty high level arm there also.
  16. The round and the year, I forgot. But the name you can't forget.
  17. But I'm curious if that means he will start spending more time in the regular rotation. Or just because Giannis was sick. Reportedly Kidd thinks he can play in the rotation this year, so perhaps we will see more of him. He came as advertised: Raw. But he skills are obvious, too. I am also pretty high on him.
  18. FYI, that started years ago. Aikman has gotten better, but early in his broadcast career he had an obvious anti-Packer bias (when Favre was still playing for the Packers). They don't bother me now, but I don't get how they are the lead Fox broadcast team. They miss so many plays live until the replay happens (oh, now I see the hold/facemask/false start...). They must not actually watch the plays as they call them. They are better than the later years of John Madden and Pat Summerall. Or anytime Jerry Glanville was in the booth.
  19. When you have 6 players all jumping for the ball whoever catches it is total happenstance. Certainly it takes a lot of skill on Rodgers part to drop it into a 5x5ish box but he has nothing to do with if and who catches it. [sarcasm]You're saying that Rodger's has no divine connection to keep making Hail Marys (Maries?) successful? Who let this goon in here? Throw him out![/sarcasm] I think he is saying that Rodger's ability to throw the ball high and drop it down at the right spot in the endzone makes it more likely to catch than mere [sarcasm]human[/sarcasm] QBs.
  20. Wow, Maker got some time in a close game? And 12 minutes too. And he keeps making 3pointers.
  21. Yep, 90 MPH FB, hammer curve and control in the MiLB level. Control eluded him at the MLB level, which is death to a 90MPH pitcher. Coach was cool at first, but he was an ultimate homer. Salome was going to be the greatest of all time! Well, in coach's eyes anyway. But the insider info is always nice. I'm interested in seeing Woodruff. Seems like we keep hearing that he hits 95-98 regularly. Then most scouting reports have him in the low 90s (maybe why the BH comp comes in). Davies, Hader, Woodruff, Lopez, Ortiz could all be in rotation by 2018 if he cleared space.... That is exciting! A lot needs to go right for these guys yet this year for this to happen, but its certainly exciting to see some P prospects at the brink.
  22. I disagree, I like it on there, looks classy, not cluttered... I liked the Est 1970 part too. I just wasn't crazy about the color scheme. I liked the icons on the icon shirt, but like others thought it was too scattered/disorganized looking. Middle had my vote too.
  23. ESPN almost has the information we are looking for, but doesn't put it all together. - On the stats, they list how many rushing First Downs a player had (Rip had 10 FD in 34 rushing attempts) - On the splits, they have stats on 3rd or 4th down with 1-2 yards to go but they don't list FD accomplished in those situations (Rip was 6 rushes for 28 yards) Its been a very long time since the Packers were a power rushing team. I was listening on the radio to the 4th down call and confused as to what 40 yard line we were at. If we were on the other side of the 50, it would make sense. But up 8 points and on your own 40 yard line, it was stupid.
  24. CheeseHeadTV article from Dec 2015:Overall the Packers have run 170 regular season plays where they needed one-yard to score or pick up a first down since the start of the 2013 season. They have converted the first down or touchdown on 106 of them, good for a success rate of 62.4 percent. On those plays the Packers chose to pass the ball 37.6 percent of the time. Meaning they run the ball roughly two-thirds of the time when needing one-yard. This makes sense because they are much more successful at running the ball than they are passing the ball in this scenario, with a 66 percent success rate they are 10 percent more successful over the last three seasons when running the ball than passing it to pick up that one-yard. Run Plays [pre]Player Attempts Successful Conversions Percentage Kuhn 11 8 72.7% Lacy 51 34 66.7% Rodgers 5 4 80.0% Starks 33 22 66.7%[/pre]
  25. We are instructed at work to have our signature close with "Kind regards" as a norm. Drives me nuts. I think it comes more from non-native English speaking culture (we are a German company). Also, another non-native English speaking phrase that bugs me is "do the needful" (i.e. please perform the action I need you to do).
