  1. If the Rockies get that tie-breaker, we should get Carolina as our A+ affiliate then...
  2. FYI, this conversation has been teetering on the edge of being locked or deleted for a bit now. Its probably best that we return "What's bugging you" to its normal intended use and drop the teacher discussion now.
  3. Garza has been healthy since his initial spring DL visit. He has put up a 4.50 ERA, but also improving as the season wore on (3.51 and 4.29 ERA in Aug and Sept). But most importantly, only one more year of the contract. He is movable, but I doubt for much. I would still hold on to him and see if he can maintain a 4.00 ERA for the start of the season then trade him at the deadline.
  4. I didn't say Colorado Springs ruined Hader, just Lopez. But I do stand by that. No, FB control can't be blamed on Colorado Springs air. But lack I of break on a CB can. And once the cycle begins, and confidence is lost, it can lead to other problems. Just because higher results at Colorado Springs is expected doesn't mean it doesn't get in a pitcher's head anyway. TheCrew summarized something I've tried to say in the past, but I think he summarized it better. CS isn't an easy place to pitch and it adds stress to a pitcher. Take away a favorite pitch (CB) and see what the pitcher can do to compensate or manage. Hader seemed to adjust (not great, but he was adjusting at the end), but Lopez couldn't. CS exposed his lack of FB control. And perhaps a need to work on his mental adjustments, too. CS isn't my ideal environment for AAA development (hitting especially), but if you have lemons, make lemonade; focus on using CS's strengths in developing players instead. Hopefully, coaches set the expectations when a pitcher comes to AAA (expect more hits and giving up more runs) as well as a plan of attack due to the thin air (focus on spotting FB, use a change-up, fewer CBs). Once a pitcher gets to MLB, it only gets more difficult. Playing in any MLB ballpark (against MLB players) is going to be more difficult than playing at AAA CS.
  5. Thanks. It was pretty prominent this weekend and got me very concerned. I did a little WebMD search and have a little better idea what it might be. One of the main contributors was stress and lack of sleep. Then my wife sent me a message this morning to let me know that both of my older boys (age 10 and 12 share a room) have been staying up late and playing games on their tablet for quite a while. My son with this issue has been exhibiting major sleep problems recently (falling asleep in the middle of the day, when we drive places, etc..). We thought it was a puberty thing again, but seems to be game related. So hopefully, if we fix that, the problem will go away also. And now, I'll be getting extra chores done around the house with their punishment.
  6. Thanks. I scanned back through two threads looking for this, but missed it (obviously). If that is the case and nearly everyone is linking only Colorado to Carolina, it would seem to make sense that the Brewers aren't interested in doing this. Too bad, since this seems to be an ideal candidate to do exactly what everyone is talking about and invest in a MiLB team to prevent the affiliation churn (not to mention stick with a decent development environment).
  7. I couldn't find that factoid anywhere. Do you have a link?
  8. Should be easy, but we continue to be the last one at the dance...
  9. My son has had a rapid eye blink issue on and off for about a year. Eye doctor thought it was a dry eye situation. Now, he tends to twitch where both his eyes blink and his arms twitch. Its happened quite a bit this weekend and we are taking him to the doctor this week. He is twelve and I'm hoping its more puberty related, but fearing its epileptic.
  10. Ouch... I thought an electric bat speed was one of Lara's main traits.
  11. Bidding war...sales pitch... Bidding doesn't always have to do with money. I bid for jobs at my customers and money is important, but not always the most important piece. You customer has to have confidence that you can do the job and are the best fit for them. Lots of Chinese companies can out-bid my company, but a can't deliver what the customer wants. I certainly hope we are giving our best sales pitch to Carolina. But I assume that most people think we are locked into Lancaster because of a lack of confidence in being able to success in that sales pitch.
  12. I'll say 2,238,830 if Arcia and Maverick stay at AAA prior to Sept call-ups. More like 2,414,930 if they are up midseason. Since Arcia came up and Maverick stayed down, I get to split the difference, right? (2,414,930+2,238,830)/2= 2,326,880. Not too bad.
  13. If you want to see how Colorado Springs can ruin a pitching prospect, look no further than Jorge Lopez. Hard to believe this was a borderline top 50 guy last year, now he's an afterthought. Hader was untouchable in Biloxi, but struggled in Colorado Springs. "Ruined" is a bit hyperbolic... Hader certainly struggled without his best breaking pitches, but that isn't ruined. He didn't have a beautiful <2.00 ERA like Biloxi, but that is also not ruined. Lopez also struggled because he relies on his breaking pitch heavily. But he also lost control of his FB, which is the main reason he was set back this year (and then sent back to Biloxi). Control of a FB can't be blamed on Colorado's rarified air. The main danger of places like Brevard and Colorado is having people make bad habits to compensate for the environment. Having inflated results at Colorado isn't ruined, its expected.
  14. We need to give Mike Tyson a chance.
  15. Broxton has high potential defense, but also has a tendency for gaffs too. As indicated by this MiLB thread: viewtopic.php?f=64&t=33945 I would rank their CF defense (solely on reports and not first hand viewing): Brinson - sounds like a 5 tool potential Broxton/Maverick - both above average potential, but notch below Brinson Ray/Clark - probably a weak CF potential. More likely a corner OF.
  16. Yeah! Take that you Braun Haters! I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty-headed animal food trough wiper! I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries! Maybe if we built a giant wooden badger...
  17. If you are going to compare Braun to other players, its probably best to compare to players that had similar back issues. That is the big risk, IMO. Take away his back problems and people would be falling over themselves to trade for Braun.
  18. Does it really matter what it would take? It makes almost no sense. We would have to pay him a boatload of cash or give up prospects for a guy we would have two years while we are not competing. Unless he lights it up and we can flip him(which isn't JBs intention) it would be a giant waste of resources for no gain. Unless we got him for a bag of balls and paid virtually none of the contract I don't see any reason to even consider it. Honestly it may be a bad move if we got him completely free. Would you take him if they threw in a high prospect (i.e. threw in someone so we would take the contract) for one of our low level prospects (Carlos Leal) or someone we don't want going forward (Martin Maldonado or Kirk Niehenhusaoudan)? I'm not defending the idea, simply stating that JB didn't say we needed to give them anyone of consequence to get him.
  19. Not to mention one of the BF.net iconic phrases/threads is based on how poorly we have done developing catchers: WOAH SOLVDD Someone did an analysis a few years back and the number of MLB catchers produced by the Brewers was the worst position outside of starting pitchers. If I remember right, it was based on number of draft picks/MLB starts or some other value metric. Lucroy shines as one of the major outliers from our history, but its not like we produce many. I would assume that any trade fro Mejia would have to include Susac as part of the package so the Indians would have some passable MLB ready catcher in return.
  20. To be fair to JB, he didn't define what it would take to get him either. I have no idea the market for him, but at his age and salary, a bag of balls might be enough. Though, I also think its best to stick with Pina and Susac. And I think DS and company have tipped their hand that way already unless something very appealing comes along.
  21. Is this the first time in history that Toledo has been referred to as a nice thing? Michigan and Ohio did fight over Toledo. Ohio won and Michigan was given the UP as a consolation prize. I don't think they will want to give up Toledo again.
  22. Why? His future is in broadcasting and not pitching. That was well known for 3-4 years...
  23. Given our current state of the MiLB clubs and number of prospects in the system, you would think we are more desirable than some other clubs at least. Surely better than Colorado...
  24. Ironically, I noted the exact opposite last year after the Brewers traded Fiers and Gomez because all four players that we got in return were very young for their level (and succeeding). So I think the key isn't about promoting aggressively, its success in getting players to achieve at the higher levels. Simply pushing them into higher levels without adequately preparing them obviously isn't a good thing. And I was pretty stunned that they left Malik at A+. He was abysmal there and hadn't played an inning of A ball. I can understand that you might have a logjam at A-ball and think he could survive A+, but once it was obvious that he couldn't they should've done something different.
  25. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2597460-is-there-anybody-left-in-los-angeles-whom-yasiel-puig-hasnt-alienated I'm not saying the guy isn't a cancer, but I question a couple of these things... Andy Van Slyke's dad said that Kershaw said... Maybe Kershaw did, but those things more often than not come out far from the truth. And the story about Greinke throwing Puig's luggage off the bus... I'm failing to see what Puig did wrong and seeing far more of Greinke being a jerk. The team is upset over a big loss, the vets order the rookies to get pizza, then get annoyed that its taking too long. So when Puig is looking for his suitcase, Greinke grabs it and throws it on the street... I'm not sure how that is Puig's fault. But if we get Puig, we better get Gonzalez with him. Seems like the only mentor he has.
