  1. ...who just homered off former Brewer farmhand LHP Anthony Banda to give the World team the lead. [sarcasm]Thank goodness that we got rid of that bum![/sarcasm]
  2. Tenting serves to remind me that I really like my camper. Its supposed to allow the juices to draw back into the meat, but not everyone believes it: http://amazingribs.com/tips_and_technique/mythbusting_resting_meat.html Tonight, I smoked two racks of pork spareribs. Dry brined, rib rub, 6 hours on the grill. Half had homemade peach BBQ sauce and half with Sweet Baby Ray's (my favorite commerial sauce). The peach ribs were gone and the sweet baby ray's were barely touched.
  3. I grew up near solon springs. It's about 25 miles from superior.
  4. Details on why?
  5. Wow, that seems like a big risk for a minimal gain... These signings always seem like such a long shot and they are signing lower value prospects anyway. Now they lost two full years of signings: their restricted signings last year and their full allotment next year.
  6. So the tally goes: Segura plus Wagner - Segura was hot early, cooled off in May, but bounced back in June (777 OPS) with an overall 802 OPS. Change of scenery still helps, but I understand how people are still going to wait a bit more time to judge it. We have seen this before. - Wagner pitched well, but has been on the DL since May 14th. for Diaz, Anderson, Wilkerson and Rijo (and 1/2 season of Hill at 780 OPS) - Doubled up on #4/5 SPs and SS/2Bs Rijo makes me think of Javier Betancourt. I'll wait and see if there is anything real there. Stats are very unimpressive so potential must be completely in his profile. Wilkerson (as others have said) is interesting. 4 pitches with nothing "special", but seems to put up good numbers at every level. Diaz - if you haven't seen his numbers recently after a horrendous start, he is over 1.000 OPS in June+July. Anderson - Wow, he really fell off the cliff lately. I only expected him to be a end of rotation MLB starter anyway (4.00-4.50 ERA), but he hasn't looked like it lately. His HRs are way UP and his Ks are way down.
  7. I'm guessing that the author got caught up in being funny for the "Fail" argument to mention any actual drawback.
  8. What did the Red Sox do? I missed it
  9. I used to play basketball and baseball against Melon in high school. Plus Copper Falls has some beautiful hiking. But it is 4 miles past no where.
  10. We never were his first choice. But if Miami remained at $10M and the Bucks were above that, I don't doubt he would've followed the money.
  11. One of the most difficult things to master is temperature control, as someone mentioned above. I'm about to make that a whole lot easier for you. Your exhaust should always be wide open. You control the heat via the intakes This depends on your equipment of course. On my Weber kettle, my intake is a large Y shaped slot with the door on one large lever. Making small adjustments is very hard. The outlet is the typical small Weber three-hole circle. But either way, certainly adjust only one and by small amounts. At the end of the day its about adjusting airflow. Most smokers work best as you suggest (especially the side-box variety), but others don't.
  12. I always smoke a brisket fat (point) side down instead of up. Both changes have resulted in better food, in my opinion. [sarcasm]Your one of those? I will never listen to you again!!![/sarcasm]
  13. Would Wade make a decent mentor for MCW? Wade's knock coming out of college was ball-handing and 3pt shooting. Wade would be fun, just to have him back in Milwaukee again. But on a short term deal, not a max-5 year deal.
  14. What are people's favorite websites for smoking advice, recipes, etc? I've recently found, and spend a lot of time at this one: http://amazingribs.com/
  15. Two more weeks until the July 15th signing deadline...
  16. After Wooten fanned Hernan Iribarren... Wooten, you rock me like a Hurricane!
  17. As for Guerra he has some value but not all that much. If you are lucky you might get a young AAAA player for him. He has to be more valuable than the Rogers trade, but less than Lind. And I'd guess that is the type of return we want to target: A-ball level (higher) talented players than a so-so guy at AAAA level.
  18. Agent39, got any Brewer draftees this year?
  19. That's because they are sending pictures to their friends about the baseball game and sprung up at the beer garden....
  20. Does Erceg really have an advanced bat? He spent last year at lower competition than the typical college player.
  21. Agreed. I'm sure there are some late-bloomer exceptions, but most 26 yo rookies won't be impact players. Maybe become a nice complementary piece, but not an impact guy.
  22. While his OPS is over 1.000 right now, he only has 35 ABs. Maybe the boots on the ground would agree with the assessment that he is above his competition, but bumping to A+ might be a pretty big jump, too. He is also getting accustomed to professional life, which is easier at the rookie level. Let him stay at Helena for at least another month. If he continues to rake, then make the decision on how to manage him and Gatewood.
  23. Ok thanks for the clarification. 24. Certainly a player must perform to be awarded the promotion. But I was pretty shocked to see the ages of the four players we got back last year: - Houser: 22 at AA - Hader: 21 at AA - Maverick: 21 at AA - Santana: 22 at MLB/AAA With some exceptions, most of our 21/22 yo players are in A and A+. I've not looked at the Houston farm team to see if this is more of a trend or if we cherry picked players that were younger. Obviously, they were some of the best players in the Houston organization. So, I was curious if it was only talent or if there is a difference in development philosophy. Though when they are hitting/pitching well promoting a guy after a half season or less at a level isn't really being aggressive. That is pretty aggressive for the Brewers. I've seen them skip levels when initially placing a guy, but rarely promote after only 1/2 season. Fielder and Braun did it, but not much at the lower levels. Even placing Maverick/Houser back in AA this year was a bit of a slow promotion plan.
