  1. At least he is pitching opposite Bumgarner, so its someone we can beat around easily. We will give him 5-7 runs of support tonight. Not sure if that should be blue or not.
  2. I'm surprised Payton signed so easily. I was under the impression that it was going to be a difficult sign.
  3. I found this websitethat is tracking the signings and bonuses for each of the top 10 rounds. Unfortunately, none of the Brewers (despite some of them being signed) are updated yet.
  4. True. I suppose I was comparing the MLB version of Overbay (more of a doubles hitter), lefty, decent average, late bloomer.
  5. Anyone have any feedback on Cooper's defense? Certainly seems like a Lyle Overbay type player at this point. And we have a few years before any Prince Fielder comes along. I'd guess the influx of draftees will have Cooper riding the promotion wave to AAA. And I refuse to call him "Coop". Just doesn't seem right.
  6. Sorry for the double post, but it occured to me that we are probably looking at this (drafting an "unsignable" player) backwards. What would it take for that player to sign at the slot they were drafted? Something to make them inelligble for college? An injury that they woudl prefer to rehab with a big league health insurance? A sudden need for money? Those are probably as long of odds, too. But if one happens, you get a great player for a low price. Probably just worth as much as the 20+ draft pick making it big.
  7. Incorrect. They were hedging against one of their top picks not signing for some reason. Corey Ray suffers a career-ending injury next week? Here's your payday, Jared Horn. The smattering of successful players drafted 20+ does not make hedging a bad strategy. It's very smart business. And like I said, they had 20 other 20+ round picks this year to get the next Trevor Rosenthal, or whomever. What they are hedging against is if Corey Ray were to have a major issue. So major he would be willing to take a deal underslot of at least $3mil to give Horn what he wants(is that what someone mentioned he wanted?). I guess a Dylan Covey type scenario could put that into play. A career ending injury would be bad because Corey Ray wouldn't sign at all. Which last time I checked meant we would lose the bonus pool money allocated to that draft slot. Which would then make signing Horn impossible. Mpst teams do it at some point in the draft, though using the 20th round pick seems a bit higher than I'd expect a team to draft a guy asking for that much money. At the end of the day hopefully that scenario making such a signing possible won't happen seeing it would mean bad news for Corey Ray. And even if someone in the top 10 were to underslot in a major way, I didn't think the Brewers could use it on the 11+ rounds anyway. And to add to the 20+ crowd, you have Mike Fiers and of course the greatest 40+ draft pick of all time: Mike PIazza. Certainly, we are talking long shot lottery picks, but I don't understand why they use them this way either. Last year they had 3-4 late picks that they had no (or little) chance of signing.
  8. Given my age, your reference is more timely than mine. Yet "Lemonhead" still only means this to me: http://www-assets.lemonhead.com/Carousel_Lemonhead_1.png
  9. The rock and roll, and pop culture references keep coming... It's a shame about Ray not having a good music reference I don't see any http://cdn.ideastations.org.s3.amazonaws.com/article-images/article-width/ray-charles.jpg?itok=CqeNf_ze
  10. Are you just trolling at this point, or what? I think he was talking about Green.
  11. Thanks. I found the original scouting report, but was curious if there were any improvements to account for his performance improvement. I'd be happy to hear that he is working now in the 91-93 range for his FB. Anyway, its be fun to add another pitcher to watch at A-ball. The more the merrier.
  12. I in agreement with the "too soon" opinion. If you want to trade at his peak, I'd give him some more time. But I think we hang onto him at this point and make him a secondary piece of our next core. And I'd prefer 2B with Perez at 3B. Scooter had his chances. Time to see what Perez can do.
  13. Draft day! Draft Day! Christmas in June!
  14. Usain Bolt would beat them all, but he doesn't play baseball...
  15. I'm really enjoying watching Jimmy this year. Often, he is close to dominant but has one inning that gives him fits. But still pretty minimal damage (especially lately).
  16. Groome at #5: People talk about sign-ability concerns, but how does the 2017 draft look? I've heard this year is a bit of a down year. So if next year projects to be better, having the #5 pick next year wouldn't be the end of the world. Of course you have to pick someone "safe" next year, but still could be better. I'm leaning to Groome as my preference as long as he doesn't have a Lawrie attitude... Edit - And in the back of my mind, I wonder about a Groome/Perez #1/#2 where Perez is the underslot pick due to the drug test. But I wonder if Perez will really drop that far. If yes, it might make sense for Perez to go to JC and "clean up" his act. Then come back in the 2018 draft.
  17. One minor disagreement here. Demi Orimoloye and Monte Harrison are equally (or more) talented. But also have a lower floor as Monte is currently demonstrating.
  18. My gut wants pitching... thus Groome and Pint are interesting. But ColbyJack's write-up about Lowe has me interested. Similar with Collins and Rutherford. So I predict: - Most likely: Rutherford - If a pitcher: Groome - Sleeper: Lowe
  19. reillymcshane, thanks for running that. I didn't vote (lack of knowledge on the players, lack of time to read), but it was fun reading everyone's opinions on it. Makes today a bit more interesting.
  20. I doubt anyone loves great pitching more than I do so Jordan Yamamoto and Devin Williams didn't disappoint, and it was another televised game to boot. I'll take 5 hits, 2 walks, and 9 strike outs over 9 innings every single time out. Its been an impressive improvement for Yamamoto over his performance at Arizona and Helena rookie leagues. He had a 7.84 ERA and 1.95 WHIP in 62 IP last year. He is at 2.25 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 1.7 BB/9IP, and 9.2K/9IP over 52 innings this year. Any scouting reports on him this year? TheCrew07, did you write anything up on him this year?
  21. Even before Billy Butler got himself on my baseball enemies list, I realized that the pace of Zach's pitch count wasn't consistent with lasting nine innings. I was counting pitches at that point also. He probably could have made it in 120 pitches. Especially if he had gotten that ground ball for a DP right before Butler hit the homer. Then he would've had 25 pitches for the 8th and 9th innings. I'll also vent a little that the ump was squeezing Davies in the 7th inning. I tuned in late and only saw Davies pitch the 6th and 7th, but I couldn't believe a couple pitches where he painted the black and the ump called balls. One had so much movement (coming back over the plate), I'm sure the ump was fooled. But another was a terrible non-call. Alas it wasn't to be. Nice to see him pitching well the last couple outings, however. Almost like we still have Fiers around.
  22. And I seem to remember Randy "had" to come up per his options. It wasn't until he was 29 that he stopped leading the league in walks per year and finally achieved his ace status.
  23. Without looking at their competition, I'd guess some of that is name recognition and some of it being a hot(ter) May influencing the votes.
  24. 3 for 41. all singles, 22 K's. That's a line of .073/.136/.073. Forget the level, that's astoundingly good. [sarcasm]LOOGY![/sarcasm]
